Fishing Close To Home During Lockdown - Winter Baitfishing At Lake Hume

  • During lockdown 5.0 in Victoria, fishing is allowed as exercise under the following rules: Time limit of 2 hours, and must take place no more than 5 kilometres from home. In this video I venture down to the shores of Lake Hume at Tallangatta, Victoria to do a bit of bait fishing, with the target species being carp, redfin or brown trout. Recent weather has been very wet, and this day was a short window of opportunity with excellent weather and calm conditions to partake in one of my favourite forms of fishing, bait fishing.

G'day Rosco, wow what a beautiful part of Victoria you live in and so lucky to have big water to fish during lockdown, I live in the western suburbs of Melbourne and only have a couple of dirty little park ponds to have a go at so I am hoping that they unlock us tomorrow with at least a radius upgrade so I can get to some better water. Anyway another great video there and hope to see some more in some of your many great locations when we are released, Cheers.

Hi from Bethanga. Just 1k from the lake? lovely! I’m a bit further but just scrape in to Bethanga Bay. Very quiet down there but who really cares - it’s fun. Like your vids mate, thanks.

Thank you Jon. I was a teacher at Bethanga Primary School for 20 years, fond memories of a great little town. Cheers.

@@FishtalkVideo Well, I’ll be blowed. We bought some land from Frank Retallic in Talgarno Gap Rd in 2003, built & moved here in 2004 - no way we’re ever going back to Sydney. When did you finish up at our great little school? Do you fish with the guys from the local fishing club?
I look fwd to watching more of your vids. Keep up the great work. Cheers mate.

@@jononeill9482 I retired from Bethanga in 2018. Used to take some of the kids down to Bethanga Bay to fish in the early days. Loved my years at Bethanga.

Good one Rossco. Even gave us a flash of your old rocker days with the intro music, adapted to the current affairs, of course. Nice to see you getting out and nice to see your local. Definitely entices, I imagine there will be a lot of us trying to make up for lost time after all this. Thanks for taking us out of the house for a bit. Cheers and stay safe mate. PP

Thanks mate, that was Hype Duo from Sydney, a great band. I need to make use of my local a hell of a lot more, fishing from the bank of the lake is so relaxing. Here's to more stable times ahead.

That was so awesome Ross. I must get up there ASAP.
I just to time it between windy days and lockdowns. LOL
I'm totally going to go and sit alo g that bank and baitfish soon. I was only thinking just last week about heading back up there. I haven't baitfished in there in winter since I fed the pelicans a few years back. I really enjoyed this video.

    Hi,
I was wondering what is your favourite fishing line. Alternate between braid and mono depending on what I am fishing for. My favourite fish are Redfin, trout and Yellow belly. I have had some huge tangles on braid and sometimes wonder if it is worth it.

Hi Steve, I prefer mono when bait fishing (6lb) as I think you get a better feel for the bites and mono has some stretch that helps when playing bigger fish like carp. I do however prefer braid when trolling, but even then I usually use a mono leader.
