Loved the video. Thanks for meeting up with me at the boat ramp on my last trip about 3 weeks ago. Looking forward to seeing you again when the weather warms a little.
Thanks for the entertainment Roscoe, starting to get a bit stir crazy with the rivers closed. Getting a few trout in the lakes but might be fun to mix it up with the redfin for a bit. Top idea. They tend to keep biting through the winter up here. Hope life is good. Cheers PP
Hi Ross, another entertaining video. As I haven't tried your style of fishing for redfin I wondered if you would be kind enough to tell me the make and size of blades and soft plastics you use .I noticed that you didn't use a jig head so what size and style of hooks do you use on the plastic. Cheers
Hello Noel. My blade of choice is Strike Pro, because they make them with a weight of 26 grams, about 1 ounce. Most other blades are about 12 grams. The heavy blades get to the bottom quicker, and give more "feel" when retrieving. I don't use a jig head because the plastic is there as an extra attractor that also catches fish, and by using a light gauge long shanked hook ( use hooks that don't have an offset gape) it allows the plastic to dance around. I may be wrong, but I believe it would look like the blade is chasing the plastic, triggering the redfin's competitive urges. As for type of plastic, any paddle tail or wiggle tail will work, but I personally use Berkley Drop Shot minnows in perch design. Unfortunately they are no longer produced, or have become very difficult to source, so I have stockpiled some for the future. Hope this helps, mate. Cheers, Ross
G'day Ross, that was a nice days fishing there, your cat certainly is well fed, is fishing that part of the lake allowed on a Victorian license as looking at google maps it is well inside Victorian border, I have never been to that lake so not really sure and am keen to get out there later in the year, Cheers.
Thanks for the comment, Daryl. The whole of Lake Hume is now under a reciprocal license arrangement with NSW, meaning that you can fish anywhere on the lake with either state license. So come on up and enjoy the great fishing that Lake Hume has to offer!!
Hi Ross, Love the videos. I’d love to know how many times you get snagged on the bottom using that method? From the look of the Blade on this video, seems like you’ve had that one for a fair while? Must be good technique? I’m usually up around the Bowna end of the lake but might catch up with you one day👍
Hi David, thanks for the comment. I generally tend to fish in open water as you can see from my videos. I know a lot of people fish close to structure, but I prefer to look for drop offs. I still get snagged but try to manoeuvre the boat to help dislodge it. Mostly I get caught on stringy aquatic weed which can be tough to dislodge. That blade has had a charmed life though! One more thing, I use 15lb mono for it's stiffness and that helps when caught on the weed. Cheers.
Hey mate, I have just started fishing out at lake Hume but never seem to have any luck. Was wondering what tips you would have for a beginner? Also, I love the videos!
Do you have a boat or are you shore based? If you check out my Lake Hume playlist you will find all my videos covering redfin, carp and trout, but most feature boat fishing.

Nice to catch up, Graeme. I think we will be in for another great summer on the reddies. Cheers.
good stuff roscoe, enjoyable video once again
Thanks Dazz. Redfin are such good fun when they are on!
Great work Rosco hope to get on to some next time im out
Thanks mate. The little buggers can be hard to find, but when you do they are heaps of fun.
Great set up with the 2 lures, I will be doing that next redfin fishing trip.
Yes, the combination of a blade and plastic does raise the stakes when the reddies are going.
Good fishing Ross. Went to Bowna a week or so ago and really struggled to find them.😔
Yes, Sam. This was filmed a few months ago, and although there are still redfin around, they are much harder to find at the moment.

Thanks PP. Some large trout are being caught in Lake Hume as well at the moment.

Hello Ross
We used to come up to tallangatta for holiday in the 80s and 90s and fished in the narrows, is it a spot you like to go to
Hi Michael, I've been a resident of Tallangatta for 31 years, so the narrows is my backyard. I love living here.

@@FishtalkVideoShore based, I will definitely check out some more videos
I usually get more carp when fishing from the bank with bait, but they are still good fun to catch.
