    Thank you for your very informative run down of redfin fishing regulations across Australia. It’s great to have the whole picture. My take is that they are a feral species however they provide anglers with opportunities to engage in the sport of fishing and enjoy a great feed. To return or not to return is the question for individual anglers guided by state or territory law.

      Spot on, mate. That is exactly how I view it. Thanks for the comments.

    Great video, Roscoe. Well researched and well presented. It's great to have the various states and territories rules on redfin explained like this.

    Great video and explanation, I also have had several comments on my videos after releasing red fin. I already new it was ok but some people just have to give their thoughts I think. Great work mate.

      It's something I don't get too uptight about, mate. I just thought that doing a video explaining the rules, it might help put some people straight. I love your vids too. Cheers, Ross

    One of the best eating fish i have ever had here in WA.

      They are a very popular table fish, and if packed properly, they have a long freezer life as well.

    On you Roscoe
    Stuff the knockers you just keep doing what you do best. More great footage catching reddies. We fish Hume quite regularly and get so much from your videos.
    P.S. would be cool to catch up to you on the water sometime 😎😎

    Great video thanks! For a time there I used to despatch every redfin regardless if I kept for a feed. But it just seemed a bit unnecessary. Between Redfin and Carp I was just killing every fish I landed and not what I want to do if you know what I mean. More than happy to catch a reddy for a feed but the smaller ones go back alive now. Every carp I catch is quickly and humanely despatched.

      @FishtalkVideo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I'm not against killing them, they are a fabulous table fish. I also keep a lot of small fish to feed the family cat, but if I don't need it, it goes back.

    Great video again
    What i want to know is if I had a farm dam and I wanted to stock it with redfin with permission could I do it in Victoria?

    • @FishtalkVideo
      @FishtalkVideo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a fact sheet from VFA, if you google "can you stock farm dams in victoria" you will get the fact sheet. From the fact sheet "Only Victorian native fish and rainbow and brown trout obtained from licensed aquaculture facilities will be considered for stocking under this process." So by law, and due to translocation being a no-no, I guess that the answer is no. Cheers.

    I release ones that aren't going home to be eaten. Many people also don't understand that you can't keep them alive in NSW. I see lots left in keeper nets beside boats or in live wells.

      That's true, Greg. Another misunderstood rule that some people break without realising it.

    Thank you for doing the research, given that it is a classified as a pest wouldn't it be better to dispatch the red fin anyway? I know you say that 1 dead redfin wont do much, but any little bit helps would you not agree?

    I'm from Victoria, I never release redfin , in a small lake near me that ihave hamerd it hard for years it's now getting hard to even catch a redfin, so it can be done. It's now stocked with trout and is proving to be a good fishery with the odd black fish and silver perch getting caught . I hunter wouldn't release a rabbit why would a angler release a redfin?

    • @FishtalkVideo
      @FishtalkVideo  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm not sure that you can draw an analogy with hunting, you can't shoot it and then decide to release it. Well done on your local small lake, I agree that it makes a difference in small waterways, but Lake Hume with 360km of shoreline and millions of reddies get no benefit from catch and kill.

    Good one Roscoe. People should go easy on you, you've done more than most to remove redfin - two fillets at a time! Keep 'em coming mate. Cheers PP

      @FishtalkVideo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, thanks PP. I'm certainly not a catch and release man when it comes to redfin, but I'm happy to return them if I don't need them. Cheers.

      @@FishtalkVideo, as a NSW fisher, I seem to remember, that some years ago, Victoria had a bag limit on red fin. I may be mistaken, but either way can you please clarify this for me? Personally l have never returned a live reddy or carp to any waterway. They either become food for me or the yabbies. Thankyou.

    • @FishtalkVideo
      @FishtalkVideo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lawrencerolls3643 you are partly correct. For a time, Victoria had a total bag limit of 40 fish. You still had to adhere to individual limits, such as natives and trout, but total catch limit was 40. For example, if your entire bag was redfin, the limit was 40 redfin, but if you had 5 trout and two yellowbelly, you could take a further 33 redfin to make up the 40. Hope this helps.
