Who Exactly is Karl Patterson Schmidt? A Certain Scientific Fatality
Karl Patterson Schmidt was one of the most renown herpetologist from the last century. September 25th 1957, during his work in The Field Museum, Chicago, he got bitten by a venomous snake. Instead of seeking medical help, he wrote what he experienced in his diary.

Elder Dragon is a fine classification. It's used to categorize things that aren't natural, like monster is in our world (but for branding reasons monster applies to natural and unnatural creatures in Monster Hunter). If we took it to the extreme that I'd want to then they would belong to an entirely different Tree of Life.

Just a little something to note about deviants. The thing with them is that they're usually a result of something repeatable yes, same situation with variants and how a Furious Rajang is what you get when a Rajang looses its tail and survives or a Scarred Garuga is just a battle scarred veteran of its species, and as a result deviants themselves are considered a sub-category of variants. The difference with deviants is that, while the conditions that create one can indeed be repeated, usually said conditions are either more of a rarity, or the monster in question is less likely to survive the process. Thunderlord Zinogre are the result of a genetic defect that overcharges their normally latent thunder organ. Soulseer Mizutsune are blinded individuals who start feeding on bomb arowana since they can no longer catch the smaller and faster fish they would normally predate upon. Elderfrost Gammoth and Silverwind Nargacuga are both just older representatives of their species that learned some new tricks along the way. Rustrazor is simply a Shogun Ceanataur that wears Glavenus skulls, the metallic material of the fangs coating the Ceanataur's claws whenever it sharpens them. Most of the deviants are like this, with some exceptions (Bloodbath IIRC is supposed to just be a specific individual). And admittedly, there's some that probably should just be reclassified as variants, like Crystalbeard which is just a male Uragaan decorating itself with rare gemstones to attract a mate. But for a good chunk of the deviants, them being in their own classification makes a fair bit of sense from the artificial categorization side of things I'd say.

My crackpot theory with Pokémon breeding is that they don't reproduce sexually. No traits are inherited from the father, and even mammal-inspired pokemon produce eggs. When the daycare tells you they don't know where the egg came from, they're not being facetious. They're being honest.

Hum, you can milk a bull .... >_> 22:00 Beside, about Pokemon, it seems the "natural" explanation for some level evolution is environnemental stress or conditions. When you read Pokedex, for example, some level up evolution have other explanations. Like Tyranitar, it evolves from larvitar and pupitar by consuming rocks along their live, and when the amount of mineral reach a critical level, it evolves in Tyranitar. For Magikarp, it evolves in Gyarados because of anger and frustration being bullied. Or about Salamence, it evolves from the will of flyng of Bagon, he drops himself from cliffs, and those who survives becomes shelgon, then with time and a lot of fall and retry, it ends up evolving into Salamence, it sound really random, so it can explain why there is lvl 9 Salamence, maybe the Bagon will for wings was stronger than common others bagon, and it evolved earlier than the typical one. I think level up is just a mechanics trying to figure the natural evolution in terms of gameplay. But it's not about level, it's more about biological cycles. Animals dont have levels, but it can represent maturation of the individual with numbers. Note : There is no animals in Pokemon, only in the anime. If I remember correctly there is no mentions of real world animals in the manga or the games. Plus, humans eats Pokemon in those media, but not in the Anime.

26:22 this is also a case of reality being more strange than fiction, becuause this actually has happened and within our species existance. The real life phenomenon is called "recurrent evolution", and it has happened a few times with previously extinct bird species. While it isnt something that happens as commonly as it does in digimon, it does happen.

Also worth noting that not all herbivores in monster hunter are classified as such: diablos is an herbivore, who's diet consists of cacti, and gets very territorial about protecting its favorite patch of cacti. They are classified as flying wyverns. They are also considered an apex predator in some contexts, despite not being predators at all...

another interesting fact about Digimon is that their evolution line is more about psychological growth, which is why different creatures may evolve in to the same one, you can see it also in the way they act and talk. in canon the evolution also depends on the kind of data the digimon was able to find across the web and the experiences they had. Digimon lore is kind of weird about how it works exactly but the gist of it should be that, whenever a digimon undergo a slight change in its body the system registered it as an alternate form (agumon > black agumon; botamon > nyokimon) while if its a big one it registers it as a new evolution. examples: the first metal greymon was a greymon that partially mechanised its body, the moment this happened the system recognized and registered it as a new evolution, which allowed the other greymons to digievolve in to metal greymon without having to undergo the same treatment.

I recommend you "Digimon World Re:Digitize DECODE" for psp or 3ds, and "Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth : Complete Edition" and "Digimon Survive" for PC and nintendo swicth. Decode is from a saga about raising digimons from birth to death naturally, it is the peak of that saga. It came out in 3DS in Japan (it has a fan translation), but in the West we only got a lower budget version for PSP with the same name. Cyber is from the saga that you showed in the video, "world dawn & duck". Complete edition brings 2 games, for the price of one; And they are also the peak of that saga. I liked "Hackers memory" more than the normal "cyber sleuth". Survive is a visual novel that I haven't been able to play, my laptop can't run it. I avoid seeing spoilers, but I have read some that make me want to play it more.

Something pretty interesting about elder dragons is that, indeed, some monsters as classified as such just because they haven't been investigated enough For example, we know because of the guidebooks that Rajang used to be classified as an elder dragon because they just couldn't investigate the monster (they even thought Rajang had wings because of how difficult it was to safely see and study one of them), once they could do some research they were able to reclassify it as a Fanged beast Also Gore Magala is a special case because of how it reproduces Shagaru Magala has a different version of the frenzy virus that carries some "spores" containing Gore Magala but here's what happens next After a monster is infected by the Frenzy virus, if it's a compatible host, the monster will slowly changed and mutate until it becomes Gore Magala So, the reason Gore Magala is classified as ??? Is because it's indeed almost impossible to classify anywhere else because it used to be another monster, maybe a flying wyvern, maybe a fanged beast, maybe a Leviathan, it could have been anything in the past

I tend to view 'evolution' in pokemon to be 'metamorphosis' in reality - Particularly since early gens basically used the Caterpie and Weedle lines to tutorialize it which both have a very explicit cocoon phase (with the lines that don't... Really... Do that... it feeling like a simplification of aging process rather than metamorphosis - Small child frog/plant symbiote (Bulbasaur), medium adulescent frog/plant symbiote (Ivysaur), large adult frog/plant symbiote (Venosaur). And then within pokemon's lore there are examples of speciation (regional variants) and convergent evolution (diglet and wiglet which are very similar looking pokemon but explicitly have very different ancestors within the lore) There's another classification Pokemon has that... I have no clue how usable it is... but is called category. For example, Rattata, Raticate, Pikachu, Raichu, Sandshrew, Sandslash, Pawmi, and Pawmo are all classed as 'mouse pokemon' for example. Meanwhile the thing I sometimes wonder is if pokemon egg groups, and the way pokemon are often in two, could be viewed as a hyper-simplified version of ring species? At least if you don't think about it too hard.
