    I’m flattered to have been selected to have my folio reviewed/critiqued. I’m very grateful - and I’ll take heed of - those comments that you have made. Thanks. David

      Thanks a lot for sending it in David. Really enjoyed checking it out with Harry, it was great. We would have loved to review each of the CVs longer just we had to try and fit as many in as we could.

    This is one of my favorite TH-cam channels. He actually reads the comments and replies. Appreciate being able to get solid advice from such an established pro, thank you.

    Irrespective of whether you have your work constructively reviewed; this channel is a must for any photographer - from 35 mm to large format; from beginner to a professional who has just worn out his third Nikon FM3A - there are pointers here for all.

    What a great way to givenback. Look at new work, comment and the twist, publish the sessions. Great amplification.

    It's always great fun to listen to these nuggets of wisdom. On the topic of B&W photography, I think there's still a justification for it. I love colour but it can be distracting. Shooting B&W removes that distraction. I think of it as refining the picture, rather than taking something away. My first five years of photography I couldn't really afford colour photography, so I learned to love B&W out of necessity.

      Very true. It was always B&W when I started. 🙂

      It’s WAY more flattering if you are ‘up north’ like me…I’m thinking of the word ‘Gammon’.In fact,on that subject,I have a mate who was a Fuji rep,Fujifilm in the ‘east’ had (has?) a different colour rendition to suit eastern skin tones,as did (does?) the Northern Hemisphere version…I always liked the Fuji digi cameras as they knew how to do skin tones,unlike my Nikon stuff which is brutal and unflattering…These vids are great,cheers to all involved.

      @@joelfildes5544 On digital cameras, skin tones are just a matter of settings. With film, it's a matter of lighting.

    Thanks for another great video. Interesting to hear what makes a good portfolio and what some employers are looking for. I think there was a good variety of newer and more experienced photographers which makes for a good video.

    I think the main issue with digital b&w is lack of intention. Too often it’s used to save a lacklustre image, rather than an intentional aesthetic decision. I also don’t think realism is necessarily better at communicating about the human experience.

  • @gpdoyon
    @gpdoyon 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I disagree that I'm "throwing away the color gamut" because I favor B&W. If color isn't really a big part of the image that's a solid reason to go with B&W. True, its not a "technical" limit anymore to use B&W, but it is can still bring great results for many images.

    • @fredandharryborden
      @fredandharryborden  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I can see both sides. I still look at some digital B&W pictures and consider them great photos. But, I can also appreciate it can be used to save an average photo.
      I have used it when making videos too; if a particular shot's colour is off, sometimes I will just make it black and white.
