I’m flattered to have been selected to have my folio reviewed/critiqued. I’m very grateful - and I’ll take heed of - those comments that you have made. Thanks. David
Thanks a lot for sending it in David. Really enjoyed checking it out with Harry, it was great. We would have loved to review each of the CVs longer just we had to try and fit as many in as we could.
This is one of my favorite TH-cam channels. He actually reads the comments and replies. Appreciate being able to get solid advice from such an established pro, thank you.
Irrespective of whether you have your work constructively reviewed; this channel is a must for any photographer - from 35 mm to large format; from beginner to a professional who has just worn out his third Nikon FM3A - there are pointers here for all.
It's always great fun to listen to these nuggets of wisdom. On the topic of B&W photography, I think there's still a justification for it. I love colour but it can be distracting. Shooting B&W removes that distraction. I think of it as refining the picture, rather than taking something away. My first five years of photography I couldn't really afford colour photography, so I learned to love B&W out of necessity.
It’s WAY more flattering if you are ‘up north’ like me…I’m thinking of the word ‘Gammon’.In fact,on that subject,I have a mate who was a Fuji rep,Fujifilm in the ‘east’ had (has?) a different colour rendition to suit eastern skin tones,as did (does?) the Northern Hemisphere version…I always liked the Fuji digi cameras as they knew how to do skin tones, unlike my Nikon stuff which is brutal and unflattering…These vids are great, cheers to all involved.
Thanks for another great video. Interesting to hear what makes a good portfolio and what some employers are looking for. I think there was a good variety of newer and more experienced photographers which makes for a good video.
Glad you enjoyed, although we were reviewing specific portfolios I felt as if there was a lot of good stuff for everyone in there. Thanks for watching!
caught your Cocteau Twins video after you put it in the the CT subreddit. been binging your videos ever since! just upgraded from a point & shoot 35mm to a Canon AE1 & i can’t wait to properly invest in my photography. i’ve already learned a lot from you guys!
I think the main issue with digital b&w is lack of intention. Too often it’s used to save a lacklustre image, rather than an intentional aesthetic decision. I also don’t think realism is necessarily better at communicating about the human experience.
I disagree that I'm "throwing away the color gamut" because I favor B&W. If color isn't really a big part of the image that's a solid reason to go with B&W. True, its not a "technical" limit anymore to use B&W, but it is can still bring great results for many images.
I can see both sides. I still look at some digital B&W pictures and consider them great photos. But, I can also appreciate it can be used to save an average photo. I have used it when making videos too; if a particular shot's colour is off, sometimes I will just make it black and white.

Thanks David. Appreciated. 😀😀
What a great way to givenback. Look at new work, comment and the twist, publish the sessions. Great amplification.
Thank you, we really enjoy doing these videos! We will definitely do more in the future.

Very true. It was always B&W when I started. 🙂

@@joelfildes5544 On digital cameras, skin tones are just a matter of settings. With film, it's a matter of lighting.
Really useful, thank you both!
Glad you found it useful, thanks for sharing it with us Kenny. Was some awesome work, really loved the tearsheets from that era!
All your videos are great, so informative, entertaining too, mini masterclasses. I'm an old pro', but still learning...
Thank you! Glad you enjoy the vids, plenty more on the way! :)

Great to see both of you in the video!
Haha thank you! We want to do more, I need to head to Harry's house more often.
