Had a quick delve into the subject of the oil painting, Juliana Derry. Born 1835, Normanton On Trent, Nottinghamshire. She married William Kippax Whate, 1859. She died 1869, according to the note after childbirth. This would have been with daughter Eliza Jane Whate, known as Lillie. William remarried the following year. Lillie ended up in Lincolnshire as did sister Charlotte, her brother Joseph in New York, and sister Amelia I think remained in Nottingham. What a shame the descendants did not want to keep the portrait in the family (assuming they didn't run out).

    Hi Harry.
The picture you took of, Sophie Okondeo, blue top against a grey background with an injured hand. Would make a make a wonderful diptych next to the picture of you, in a blue top against a grey background with an injured leg, we saw saw in this video.
Your idea is a good conduit for people to talk about their images or others images they have in their home. Do you remember the series about people and their home decor called 'Signs of the Times' and people and cars, 'A to B, Tales of Modern Motoring' made by Nicholas Barker and Martin Parr. I was reminded of both when I saw the photo you had of Parr's.

I used to enter competitions but I've become a bit disillusioned as they tend to often be a revenue raising exercise by the organisers. Even the Taylor Wessing which I've been in many times is very expensive to enter but at least it's at the NPG, so a wonderful venue to see your work featured. I would also recommend The World Press Photo. Very tough to get anything in but free to enter...I tend to select an image which has an instant appeal but then, over time seems to reveal more...Good luck!
