hay how are you goin not bad there a grate bike just not for you if it brakes down single cylinder 2 stroke would be better and careful of the clutch cable if its to tight or lose will push the heater hose against the exhaust header clutch will go and exhaust val will go to if on limiter or down shift and use engine brake will cook the top end to cams rollers cam chain. bottom end Counter balancer chain and sharft. it u hear a rattle the the right hand ride engine cover decomp will snap of and end up in the engine take thst of next time it come apart
Yes, thanks for the info! I've heard the KLRs need a bit of maintenance but I didn't really want another two stroke. I'm happy with the bike so far 😎 but only time will really tell how well she really goes
Awesome!! Yes they did have passenger pegs mounted to brackets on the sub frame. Nice bike all in all.
Hi Pete! Yes, I think so too! Thanks for the info and comment 🤗
I'm 40 now and I just got my learners licence and will be getting the 2024 rebel. Looking forward to exploring the new world of biking around Queensland
That's great! I think you'll love the rebel 😍
@@andymoto im just hoping the rebel will be good long term i keep hearing people saying its weak and they were dying to upgrade after not even a year but im not really caring about power so long as it can get up hills and mountains without struggling and it handles on the highways well. personally i realise most people just love to complain so its hard to figure out the genuine complaints and the people who will never be happy
The rebel will get you up the hills no worries at all, but you still might wanna upgrade lol! If you have an unrestricted licence you could go straight to the 1100. Apparently if you leave it in rain mode it rides like the 500 anyway 😎
Hi. I have 2024 rebel 500. With L plate. Thank you for sharing your rebel.
Love that 😍 so cool! Ride safe 😎
I know that you are a Vic rider, I am sounding out views on how the rebel cmx500 would handle the NSW M.O.S.T test. Does the Vic Riders test differ much to NSW? Hopefully your other subscribers may be helpful. I rode round Canberra back in the 80s on a trail bike but the Sydney traffic scared the you know what out of me. Now I in my 60's I plan to get back into it. Being short legged the 500 is low enough get get my leg over. Love the videos.
Hi Mark! Thank you 😃 I think you'll love the rebel 😍 I don't know if the Vic test differs much from NSW, I don't think the practical parts would be much different and they are pretty clear about what you need to do to get licenced and you can ask questions if you need to. You could also consider travelling out of the city to do your test, I never really ride in the city or on really busy roads. Ride safe 😎
My 2021 is a matte black
The matte black is tough 😎
Awesome videos I love them, my question is how do you get the birds eye view camera angle? and info about camera gear in general even the mic.
Hey Eliza, glad you like the videos. 😀 The birds eye view is a friend riding behind me with a GoPro on his helmet. I hope to do a video soon on the camera/mic gear, but it is a Rode lavilier GO mic with a Zoom F1 audio recorder. 😀
Hi Andy just finished my latest road trip just a tad under 4000 kms. It certainly put the travel bug to rest for now. Take care, stay positive cheers Wayne
Hey Wayne, that's great. I'm hoping to do a long trip again soon. It's been awhile, but it has been good to do some short trips when I feel like it, rather than commiting to a long one. 🙂 Keep enjoying it.
Wow, girl! This was super helpful and awesome!! Thanks for sharing this! New subscriber here. =)
Heyy! Thanks and welcome! Glad it was helpful! 😃 🤗
I don't know why I laughed so much when you said "anti-clockwise." I mean, technically, I don't think that's wrong.😆 Good video, good thinking, and great reminder. I need to do maintenance a lot more often than I do because I abuse the hell out of my stuff - not just my bike, but my Jeep, my guns, everything. I run everything hard but I hate doing maintenance 😫... On the other hand, I also expect everything to last forever.
Hey Eric! I was a bit the same when it came to maintenance but now i don't mind it. Some tunes and beers can help 🤣
Yeee yeee yeee
Yeeeeeeeehhhawwwwwww
Just bought a '99 at the beginning of March. Really fun bike! The comment about TDC when starting is spot. I also put dielectric grease and ran a can of Seafoam through the system. Starts much easier now.
Thanks Brendan, I'm still getting use to the bike but it's been great! Thanks, I'll give the Seafoam a go. Keep enjoying that KLR! 😃
Pearl Smoky Gray
Great bike, I have one!
Hey! Agreed! 😃 They're such a great bike!
Great tips Andy! Love your work
Thanks, glads they were helpful! 🤗
Just bought one and I am super happy about it, using it everyday in Italia and really perfroming well with a low cost maintenance and power in the engine. Once motorcycle were built to enjoy and to be simple. Good old days, hopefully the future of bikes will go back to those amazing standards and feelings.
That's great! I agree, I absolutely love mine! 😍 although around town a electric start would be handy.
@@andymoto I actually chose that bike because it has a kick start, it makes me feel better ;)
It is a good workout 😂
What a brilliant idea 👌
Thankyou! 😁 I love them!
Have you got caught in the rain with them yet? Just wondering how good the rivets seal out the water 🤔 I would guess that not much water gets in through them though. If you do have an issue with the bolts letting in water, you could always cutout some rubber washers from an old bicycle tire tube or something. Looks good!
RedRider! Thanks ☺️ I actually haven't ridden in the rain with them yet but I've washed the bike a couple of times with a hose and no water has come in. Also haven't had any dust get in either 🙂
@@andymoto oh that’s awesome! 👏
Step 1: Buy a Japanese bike
Haha 😂 yeah that's probably true but I also like Harley's and Indian's and other bikes so will need to work on my maintenance and repair skills I guess 😂
@@andymoto I also like Harleys and Indians they are beautiful bikes sadly they're a little mean to the old wallet 😂
Haha I agree, that's the only reason they haven't entered my garage...yet
@@andymoto I like them but my friends Dad's Harley fat boy just blew up at 68k miles, it had regular oil changes and other maintenance it was a twin cam and apparently one of the cam bearings failed so the engine is being replaced
Ouch! That's got to sting 🥴 I have heard they tend to be pricey to maintain and fix (and that problems arise alot). I suppose at least they look pretty 😍
Don’t forget to dispose of the waste oil correctly. Recycling centres will have facilities - don’t just chuck down the nearest drain. Good information though Andy, keep it up.
Hey, thanks! Glad you liked it.😁 Yeah, I usually just take mine into a local automotive retailer, like supercheap or repco.
you need motorcycle garage house from japanese motorcycle uncle i followed instagram
Bunnings sells an oil jug with a flexible nozzle. Makes adding oil a lot easier.
Thanks! I'll check it out. I need to do a bunnings run and the KRL is due for an oil change.
Manual says every 16k km, or once a year, so I do a service once a year. Mind you where I live bikes are in winter storage for 5-6 months of the year, guessing that isn't an issue in your neck of the woods. ;)
16,000 km?! That's a long time. Interesting that they have a different service manual. Yeah, I'm lucky and don't have the problem of having to store it. Usually I can still get her out about once a week when it hits winter. 😃 My oil had been in the bike longer than recommended and still looked pretty good after 6,000km.
Is the Honda rebel supposed to get a new back tire every 12k km and new front tire every 24k? That’s what they say for the Kawasaki 400s/500s.
That's interesting. I haven't seen anything saying that for the rebel. I just keep an eye on mine and replace when it gets to the wear indicators.
Good vid, thanks. It looks chili in south Oz.
Thanks! 😁 It is starting to get cold. I'm hoping to get as many rides in as possible before it really cools off. Actually on second thoughts I'll be riding through winter 😂
So many memories flooding back about the mighty KLR250. I had a red one with a blue seat. I can’t remember the year model but I sold it with 63,000km on the clock and it still started firs,t kick. Used it as my everyday commuter and weekend fun machine. The pillion foot pegs were on brackets attached to the swingarm. Such a great bike of the many I’ve had over nearly fifty years of riding. Enjoy your KLR!
Thanks Andrew! I absolutely love it 😁 It seems very reliable, my friend can start it first kick but I'm still trying to get the hang of it😂 That's cool about the foot pegs, I might try and pick some up. I'm hoping to get her cleaned up a little more.
@@andymoto mine was a 1984 model and I believe the later ones like yours had a bracket that bolted to the frame for the pillion pegs. There was also a long range fuel tank made by Acerbis (I think), that would make it into a brilliant ADV. Wishing you all the best with your KLR. Mine was a hoot!
Ooh thanks for the information.😁 I want to do an "Info-vid" soon on the KLR. I'm loving it, such a sweet little bike!
Red Rider ⁉️
Ooh that is a cool name.😎 I tired googling it but I'm not sure what you mean.
@@andymoto it’s girls TH-cam channel. You look very much look like her 😂
I just checked out her channel! Very cool, she just gained a new subscriber. 😍
@@andymoto 👍🏻
caling a bike a gender is strange. imo
Haha fair. It is a bit weird. Just habit I suppose. 🤭🤷♀️
I just sold my R1 today, and only have my Rebel 500 right now, and I'm currently on Amazon ordering a new seat and a sissy bar w/ luggage rack LOL, it'll be useful when my buddies and I go on our long distance ride this summer
Ooh that's great. I'm still working with the original seat. I either need to change her up or get a new one. Let me know if you come across a good one!
Hey, I have seen some of your other videos and the rebel looks very cool on you, how tall are you? Nice video by the way!
Thankyou! I'm just under 5'2 (155cm), so pretty short, lol. The rebels low seat height was one of the main reasons I purchased it... and because it's so pretty! 😍
Cool I have a 96 model , kick start old school , fun to ride
Nice! I agree, it's so much fun!
I didn't see anyone else post this, but it works for my short friends. Put the kickstand down and put your left leg on the left footpeg. Stand up and swing your right leg over. You will definitely want a kickstand foot, for sand or soft dirt.
Ooh very clever, yet so simple.🙂 Can't believe I haven't thought of that.🤦♀️ I'll have to have a look at the kickstand foots! Im keen to give it a go though! Thank you!!
That's a great looking bike.. nice 90's retro machine !
Thankyou! I love it! The colours are so cool.😍
Re the cold hands - I get the same. Heated grips tend to lose a lot of heat and, of course, only warm your palm with thin gloves, so the top of your hands still get cold! Seriously a really good cold-weather glove makes a huge difference but because I'm a massive baby I got heated gloves and they are brilliant! The gloves themselves are super warm anyway, but then you put the heat on it's lovely and you don't lose heat like you do with the grips. Mine are rechargeable, you can wire some into the the bike, but I didn't see the need. On low they last about 3 hrs, mid 1.5 hrs, high 1 hr; but if I'm out riding I'll tend to have them on for 20 mins, then off for an hr or 2, back on for 20, then off again etc. otherwise they get too hot! Plus it saves the battery. They're expensive but worth every penny!
Yes, heated grips sound like a great idea! I like how I could use them on my other bikes too 🙂 I am considering getting some so thanks for the info
Yeah ok, it's cool
Haha, glad you think so. She's a pretty fun bike!
thinking of getting a rebel. cool vlog!
Thanks!😀 That's awesome, I love mine! Glad you liked the video. 😀
You’re a weapon on the dirt
Haha, I try.
I had a '91 for several years. Cold or warmed up, it never took more than one or two kicks to start, provided that the carb was well sorted, the intake (carb to head) was in excellent condition, and the fuel hadn't gone stale. The carb diaphragm is also a critical part of the easy starting. Fun bike overall but not the best suspension for off roading. Pro tip: when you remove the carb, disconnect the 'choke' cable at the grip instead of trying to remove or install it at the carb. Better yet, eliminate the cable and get a aftermarket plunger type enrichment valve.
Thanks for the info I'll keep that in mind 🙂 She seems to run really well, I think I just need to get to know her a bit better but if I keep having trouble I will check those things and maybe get a new spark plug too which should make her easier to start
How tall are you? Looking to get a bike this year and that model seems interesting. Just need to know the height.
top dead center when starting.
Thanks, yeah, I was trying to get it on the compression stroke, but was clearly struggling 😂 Guess I'll have to practice more. 😃
+1 for the joke 🎉
Haha thanks 😂
Its too bad most of the parts have been discontinued, atleast in canada when i looked at picking up something old i always do some digging.
Yeah, finding parts is getting harder but a lot of the parts for the klr250 are interchangeable with newer kawasaki bikes and I've managed to pick up a few on marketplace so I'm not too worried 😃 It is good to keep it in mind though 😊
Kenapa syeadmirull awak begitu.
Hey, sorry google could only translate half of that. I'm not sure what you mean
,When kiking the high Pony over ,Put ya foot on kik starter gently push it down 1/4 of a slow kik at a time until you get it on the hardest stroke ,then let your foot come bak up then give it good kik ,got too get them on compression stroke this will help with starting, 👍
Great explanation, I was trying to do that but struggled, lol 😂 I'll have to keep trying, still getting a feel. I'll take any tips I can. Thanks for the comment. 😊
That bike looks so much fun, I need to get me one!!
It's so fun! 🥰 Keep an eye out on market place for a cheap one 🤭
Congrats on the new (to you bike). Exploring dirt roads is alot of fun. Due to its age, look into historic rego. It is alot cheaper.
Thanks! I love it. 🥰 That's a good idea, I think I need to join a club for it, but I'll look into it! 😃 I'm loving the dirt roads!
Are you looking to get another bike because you are looking for more power or just different style?
Hey, I'm just enjoying riding and love trying different bikes.😍 I also love the look of the scout and think they're cool.😎 I'm not really wanting it because of the extra power, I think the rebel has enough for what I want to do. 😃
@@andymoto Thanks for sharing, I am stuck between getting the 1100 or the 500. Leaning more toward the 500 but I don’t want 3 years from now me regretting not getting that extra power. That’s the current problem I have with my Honda Reflex 250 scooter, but what can you expect from a 250 😂
I assume the 500 will be a lot more powerful than the 250 scooter and I'm really happy with mine, but if you can afford the 1100 I'd go for it. 😊 The only downfall is the cost and additional weight. You can put the 1100 in different modes. For instance, apparently the rain mode makes it ride more like a 500. 😃 If possible, maybe test ride them and see? I'm still yet to ride the 1100, so I can't comment too much. How exciting though! 🥰
I knew a guy who had a 69 harley. He would come to the pub, sip a beer, then go out and get on his bike, kick it a few times and it wouldn’t start, then he would have a second beer, get on the bike and it would start right up. It was like that every time. And now that I think about it, it was only when the weather was nice, not cold at all. Anyway, don't be shocked if the klr develops some unique preferences, and be remember what works and what doesn’t. Good luck and have fun!
Thanks! That's funny. I'm still trying to figure out some of the quirks of the High Horse, but we are bonding. 🥰
Great bike Andy, I would love a bike like this but I'm dirt poor :-(
😂 Hey Sean, I managed to pick this one up for 700 buck, so I was pretty happy.😍 Even dirt is getting pricey these days.
