I knew a guy who had a 69 harley. He would come to the pub, sip a beer, then go out and get on his bike, kick it a few times and it wouldn’t start, then he would have a second beer, get on the bike and it would start right up. It was like that every time. And now that I think about it, it was only when the weather was nice, not cold at all. Anyway, don't be shocked if the klr develops some unique preferences, and be remember what works and what doesn’t. Good luck and have fun!
Just bought one and I am super happy about it, using it everyday in Italia and really perfroming well with a low cost maintenance and power in the engine. Once motorcycle were built to enjoy and to be simple. Good old days, hopefully the future of bikes will go back to those amazing standards and feelings.
So many memories flooding back about the mighty KLR250. I had a red one with a blue seat. I can’t remember the year model but I sold it with 63,000km on the clock and it still started firs,t kick. Used it as my everyday commuter and weekend fun machine. The pillion foot pegs were on brackets attached to the swingarm. Such a great bike of the many I’ve had over nearly fifty years of riding. Enjoy your KLR!
Thanks Andrew! I absolutely love it 😁 It seems very reliable, my friend can start it first kick but I'm still trying to get the hang of it😂 That's cool about the foot pegs, I might try and pick some up. I'm hoping to get her cleaned up a little more.
@@andymoto mine was a 1984 model and I believe the later ones like yours had a bracket that bolted to the frame for the pillion pegs. There was also a long range fuel tank made by Acerbis (I think), that would make it into a brilliant ADV. Wishing you all the best with your KLR. Mine was a hoot!
I didn't see anyone else post this, but it works for my short friends. Put the kickstand down and put your left leg on the left footpeg. Stand up and swing your right leg over. You will definitely want a kickstand foot, for sand or soft dirt.
Ooh very clever, yet so simple.🙂 Can't believe I haven't thought of that.🤦♀️ I'll have to have a look at the kickstand foots! Im keen to give it a go though! Thank you!!
Just bought a '99 at the beginning of March. Really fun bike! The comment about TDC when starting is spot. I also put dielectric grease and ran a can of Seafoam through the system. Starts much easier now.
I had a '91 for several years. Cold or warmed up, it never took more than one or two kicks to start, provided that the carb was well sorted, the intake (carb to head) was in excellent condition, and the fuel hadn't gone stale. The carb diaphragm is also a critical part of the easy starting. Fun bike overall but not the best suspension for off roading. Pro tip: when you remove the carb, disconnect the 'choke' cable at the grip instead of trying to remove or install it at the carb. Better yet, eliminate the cable and get a aftermarket plunger type enrichment valve.
Thanks for the info I'll keep that in mind 🙂 She seems to run really well, I think I just need to get to know her a bit better but if I keep having trouble I will check those things and maybe get a new spark plug too which should make her easier to start
Hello! 😊 I have, I was going to do a video with 2 people on the rebel, but I would be the passenger in the video as I'm still on a restricted license...not for long though! 😃 I think Fortnine has a video on it, but thanks for the suggestion. I'll add it too my list. 😊
,When kiking the high Pony over ,Put ya foot on kik starter gently push it down 1/4 of a slow kik at a time until you get it on the hardest stroke ,then let your foot come bak up then give it good kik ,got too get them on compression stroke this will help with starting, 👍
Great explanation, I was trying to do that but struggled, lol 😂 I'll have to keep trying, still getting a feel. I'll take any tips I can. Thanks for the comment. 😊
Yeah, finding parts is getting harder but a lot of the parts for the klr250 are interchangeable with newer kawasaki bikes and I've managed to pick up a few on marketplace so I'm not too worried 😃 It is good to keep it in mind though 😊
hay how are you goin not bad there a grate bike just not for you if it brakes down single cylinder 2 stroke would be better and careful of the clutch cable if its to tight or lose will push the heater hose against the exhaust header clutch will go and exhaust val will go to if on limiter or down shift and use engine brake will cook the top end to cams rollers cam chain. bottom end Counter balancer chain and sharft. it u hear a rattle the the right hand ride engine cover decomp will snap of and end up in the engine take thst of next time it come apart
Yes, thanks for the info! I've heard the KLRs need a bit of maintenance but I didn't really want another two stroke. I'm happy with the bike so far 😎 but only time will really tell how well she really goes

Thanks! That's funny. I'm still trying to figure out some of the quirks of the High Horse, but we are bonding. 🥰

That's great! I agree, I absolutely love mine! 😍 although around town a electric start would be handy.
@@andymoto I actually chose that bike because it has a kick start, it makes me feel better ;)
It is a good workout 😂

Ooh thanks for the information.😁 I want to do an "Info-vid" soon on the KLR. I'm loving it, such a sweet little bike!

Awesome!!
Yes they did have passenger pegs mounted to brackets on the sub frame.
Nice bike all in all.
Hi Pete! Yes, I think so too! Thanks for the info and comment 🤗

Thanks Brendan, I'm still getting use to the bike but it's been great! Thanks, I'll give the Seafoam a go. Keep enjoying that KLR! 😃
That bike looks so much fun, I need to get me one!!
It's so fun! 🥰 Keep an eye out on market place for a cheap one 🤭

That's a great looking bike.. nice 90's retro machine !
Thankyou! I love it! The colours are so cool.😍
Cool I have a 96 model , kick start old school , fun to ride
Nice! I agree, it's so much fun!
Great bike, I have one!
Hey! Agreed! 😃 They're such a great bike!
Congrats on the new (to you bike).
Exploring dirt roads is alot of fun.
Due to its age, look into historic rego. It is alot cheaper.
Thanks! I love it. 🥰 That's a good idea, I think I need to join a club for it, but I'll look into it! 😃 I'm loving the dirt roads!
Best one yet. Long live the high horse!
Thankyou! It's a pretty cool bike! She's lasted this long, I'll keep her going. 😃
How tall are you?
Looking to get a bike this year and that model seems interesting. Just need to know the height.
Can you do a video on how to carry passengers? I would love to take my husband for a ride this summer.

Great bike Andy, I would love a bike like this but I'm dirt poor :-(
😂 Hey Sean, I managed to pick this one up for 700 buck, so I was pretty happy.😍 Even dirt is getting pricey these days.

Its too bad most of the parts have been discontinued, atleast in canada when i looked at picking up something old i always do some digging.

Yeah ok, it's cool
Haha, glad you think so. She's a pretty fun bike!
You’re a weapon on the dirt
Haha, I try.

Hey, sorry google could only translate half of that. I'm not sure what you mean
+1 for the joke 🎉
Haha thanks 😂
top dead center when starting.
Thanks, yeah, I was trying to get it on the compression stroke, but was clearly struggling 😂 Guess I'll have to practice more. 😃
