I got the triumph pag60 tealstripe. Active eq after the tone stack. I love the amp, since i cant buy a greenstripe mark3 If youve ever played a mesa mark 3..yeah the "more usable mark3" statement doesnt really make sense. Not sure what you meant by that

Studio Pre lacks a touch of aggression but otherwise very similar. Did you do the IIC+ conversion on the studio pre? Also, why did I sell mine 😭

I just wanted to add, I heard in recent Kirk Hammet interview, he mentioned that Metallica basically layered 6-7 amps at once for rhythm sound and used unorthodox amps, some vintage and some newer ones (Like Mesa Boogie etc). Dont know which ones though

I've had this IR plus the AJFA and MOP ones for a couple of years now. I love them. The basic foundation of the black album tone is in this IR. But it still needed tweaking through AFX3. I found it challenging to emulate the slaved effect of the boogie blended into the marshall. If you nail it, it's sounds very distinct as it will have a low end sonic rush blended with the higher tone of the Marshall. A very unique yet complex tone. Thanks mate.

My first built amp and what an amp to start with. It has everything to my ear. Total range from country to VH with the split cathode switch. I have a switchable 100pf bright cap as well. Gives it more sizzle in split cathode mode.

The original has a lot more "twang" in the attack. The original sounds almost clean on the attack. I think maybe more input volume and less gain. Or maybe simply you need new guitar strings or elixir strings.

Is the peavey series 60 used to get the tone?

Did you honestly review the clean tone on the Peavey by running through a MESA IR (which we all allegedly know?). Bonkers

I never understood why none of these companies(line6,fractal,neural) that make these modelers never included a rockman preset??? Obviously going by what you achieved here this unit does that Rockman tone very well so why L6 never took advantage of that is a mystery to me? $500 for a 40 year old cheap plastic X100 is INSANE!!! Every Rockman X100 I ever owned broke!

Um…….the OD on this amp sounds amazing actually. Wonderful for any type of music aside from trash or super heavy metal. I WAY preferred the sound you had before the EQ pedal. That was a very nice mid range that would sit really nice in a mix.
