Man, this is hands down the best ENGL Savage 120 demo I've seen on TH-cam - it's a pleasure to listen to someone playing something NOT chugga chugga metal on it.
I really enjoy your channel, I was completely surprised how this amp is put together internally. It being a ENGL I expected it to have a cleaner build quality.
Really good sounds from this, especially with the Jackson and the Ride The Lightning riffs. Would be interested to hear how it handles a Les Paul/SG/Telecaster.
This must be a pre-2011 Savage, this one sounds great. You can tell when they switched to the larger transformers. Gone was the clarity and tightness and it just got tubby. The magic just seem to disappear.
really surprised by how well it cops the plexi tones, never thought of the Savage like that. Laughing at the amount of HOTSNOT, absolutely ridiculous to cover every connection and cap in it like that.
realy good stuff there my friend !!! i have a little gigmaster ; upgrade the tubes and put a ceramic Jensen in it lovely amp ! takes pedals like a dream !! i bought it 10 years ago ; thanks for your work !!! from France keep on !!!!
I was considering buying an Engl Savage but after seeing the atrocious build quality displayed in this video, I have ruled it out. It’s an embarrassment to German engineering and craftsmanship. Great video because it looks at build quality and design rather than only sound and features.
Why do they mount the PCB's upside down? I asked my tech about ENGL one day and he said they are nothing but a pain in the ass and the new ones are even worse and he would even ALMOST work on a MESA before a ENGL. That is saying something! You can get amps built better than this for less money plain and simple and NO Thank You!
I looked up the price of these after I made the video, I was shocked to see they at the 2k mark. I have no issues working on Boogies to honest and at least they use quality PCB’s and components and are built tough. No need for gobs of hot glue in Boogie’s. I’ve see sub £1000 amps with much better build quality than that ENGL.
@@RDamps I think it does sound good but the asking price is crazy for what you get. I would think that if you had to even fix anything in that amp wouldn't you need to remove all PCB's just to even see what is going on as it's all upside-down? Not a Tech but I would assume you can't fix what you can't see and get to the bad component and to do the job right I see no other option but I could be very wrong. Does ENGL have a valid reason for mounting the PCB's in this fashion ? As I do not know what the benefit would be. Enjoy your videos and take care!
Yeah if there was a serious problem it would be a major ball ache because as you say, I would have to pretty much dismantle and unsolder a tone of connections to get to the component side.

Agreed, it's nice to hear the full pallet of tones - great video!

Loved this amp
Sounds better than it looks (on the inside!). Great clip Chris.
Thanks mate
I still am amazed at how fat yet tight Engl amps are voiced. It doesn't really sound like anything else.
Wait till you hear the Diezel I just serviced.... another level

Sounded sick with the JB and the Explorer as well

Keep it in the family riff towards the end🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
It sounds lush.
Extra lush infact.
It really does sound great, just a shame about the build quality for such an expensive amp.
Tell us about that Strat? Looks like it's got history!
Might be a video series there?
@@RDamps yes!
I have a dilema between savage 120 and laney vh100r. But i think I will go savage ;p
Did you decide? I have a Laney VH100, and it's a very different animal from the ENGL.
BTW Chris I just got same amp today. opened it up and it's also full of snot!
Such a shame. mk1 or mk2?
@@RDamps mk1 mate, would be interested to know what the mk2 looks like inside
Me too, I wonder if they tweaked it at all?

Thank you sir l
@@RDamps Thank you for your expert analysis. I will stick with Diezel amps.
