Plexi growl with some Vox chime is what makes the Selmer 50 watt amps so special.

Man, such cool tones! My dad bought a new Selmer T&B back in the '70s and used it for bass. I inherited it and had it recently restored. It's never ever been cranked though and I can't wait to plug in and notch that volume knob up to the max. Want me some of those tones. Got a few pedals myself that I bought in the 70s, so I'm gonna have a fun time experimenting. Thanks for the vid mate!

The Gretsch with gain pedals sounded very Queens of the Stone Age, very cool. Also can't argue with that Les Paul sound at the end.

Really need to do something with my Selmer Treble N Bass Reverb head. Not been played in at least 10 years and probably needs a good restoration

Any of these basic vintage non master volume amps are the perfect stoner rock amps. Especially old Ampegs and the like.

Very nice work on the T&B. Honestly I stopped asking "Why...?" yesterday right after I started working on an amp that has been supposedly pro serviced... I hope you don't mind me adding one note on converting Selmers to Marshalls: please don't! I've seen quite a few amps (especially rare PA ones) that has been "converted" to a Plexi or something along that line and the result is always something weird. There aren't many Selmers around today as they used to be :) I have a 100w Selmer PA that has been a workhorse for decades and people just kept adding stuff to it to the point of no return - now I have to completely disassemble the poor thing to the bones and rebuild it with new components. Luckily the transformers and the massive choke is intact so thats a happy note there. Anyhow, super cool amp & nice work, I only wish these oldies could come back just as other brit & yank classics did recently.

I agree, I won’t convert them either. They need to be preserved.

Love the Selmer T'n'Bs. Hotcakes work well with them (like with the voxac30s). Interesting to hear that they have no negative feedback; I did wonder. Have a silver face 70s 100w T'n'B which I believe is basically the same circuit pretty much as the 60s ones like in this video. Presence control I think can bring in neg-feedback.

The later SV 50 has NFB, hence the presence control. The version here is, I think, a Mk1 (or 2). The SV is also diode rectification. They are really well made (even if the cabinets are not so brilliant) with good transformers, pots, sockets, and a robust chassis. Well under the radar at the moment for a vintage amp.

@@philipharris2273 remind me how the presence control works, please. turning it up reduces the NFB? All the way up (or down?) removes the NFB completely? By the by I got my 100w T'n'B last year for £300. Good nick. Had it services anyhow, little needed doing to it.

This is the only amp I really want. & the amp behind the insanely electric sound on the Floyd’s first albums w Syd Barrett. But being in the states I don’t know how I’d get one over here, find someone as knowledgable as you to check it, only to then mangle it to work with yankee power, and then attenuate it besides so I don’t end up living under a bridge somewhere. I guess that seals it, if I want to play a TnB, I have to move to the Green & Pleasant Land.

If I see one with a switchable power transformer I’ll give you a shout.

Green wire from HT fuse to ground? Did the original Selmer design fuse the ground side of the H.T. or was than another Ken X bodge?

Why the guy didn't butcher this? Prob cuz it's always about what the customer wants. Wether it goes beyond your skill once you get in there is prob why he butchered a tweed. I'd let the guy butcher multiple tweeds to see one more of these be almost original.
