      Thanks for the feedback. We've had some great racers over the years. But as people move on, it's always a hunt for new drivers. A fresh development is the #mvtac competition, trying to encourage more to race regardless of location first month had 9 entrants. Plenty more building tracks currently. A first time driver has posted a blistering time for an unsecured track, the competition should be interesting this month.

      Voltage is yet to be decided. I'm very close to having my track sorted, so then testing will begin. From eary tests on the unsecured track, a higher voltage compared to what we race with on our larger tracks seems to be more appropriate. Voltage will be set so the standard AFX controllers work. The competition needs to be based around cheap components, and encourage/promote tuning as an avenue for improved performance.

    The concept is not new. In 24 scale, the common track was the King track or Blue King. In Ho, the original Auto World developed the Clubman track design. Also in HO was the Scorpion design track.

    • @murdervalleyraceway
      @murdervalleyraceway 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's definitely not a new idea. However, doing it on home built tracks versus commercial tracks in shops isn't as common. I love for the layout to be bigger, but involvement is more important than the size of the layout, and I know a lot of people are not open to build larger than a sheet of ply.

  • @nunyabusiness6090
    @nunyabusiness6090 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Sounds interesting. I've tried Laptrax but didn't have much success (even with good lighting) so I ended up over-paying for a second hand AFX lap timer. While not designed for it apparently the Carrera 71590 Electronic Lap Counter works with HO scale and isn't overly expensive (about $120 AUD on Amazon)... so I found out later😒 I'm in the process of building an approximately 19 metre per lane (according to Tracker 2000) track on an 8 x 4 sheet that I copied and slightly modified from someone on FB's track picture.

    • @nunyabusiness6090
      @nunyabusiness6090 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Track looks interesting with a good variance in corners. It's something I could possibly build on the underside of my main track (I'm building it on a home made mobile rotisserie made from two engine stands so it can be stored on it's edge and is only 400mm wide in total) although it would mean another timer which I hadn't planned on.

      I'm hoping quite a few get involved. Who knows, maybe it might get big enough I need help scrutinising all the videos to make sure each driver complies. There is a similar set up to the one in the video already happening (Virtual Slot Racing Club on Facebook), and there's 2 tracks. 1 is a 4x8 (1200 x 2400mm) oval, the other is a quiet large (by comparison) 4 lane course. The only thing I'm really doing differently is a 2 lane circuit on the smaller sizing. I think it's going to have more appeal (I'm not into oval tracks myself).

    wiring brake is a must have if you run xtraction, tjet, or other magnetless cars

    • @murdervalleyraceway
      @murdervalleyraceway 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed that the magnet traction cars do have more natural brake due to the drag the magnet creates. I think the one thing I've really learnt lately after starting to drive a smaller layout, is that compact tracks drive completely differently to larger layouts. The need for braking just isn't there if the track you drive doesn't have long straights, because there's not enough time to accelerate and brake over a shorter distance. On shorter layouts the hover trigger seems to be the standard driving style required.

      Thanks for the positive feedback. I've owned HO slots since the 80's, but only started taking them seriously in 2016. They never seem to gain any support for racing in Australia. I will admit that I was also one to view them as the toy scale. I'm an ex 1:24 racer, and I've taken on HO with the aim to extract a 1:24 style type experience out of it. With an experimental way of looking at it, and willingness to give things a bit of a go, I can confidently say, I wish I'd have given them a go back in 2000 when my local 1:24 track burnt down.

      @@SlotCraftMaster what I don't like about out if the box racing is, if your car is slow, than you aren't competitive. Be aware, the Mega G+ is the least consistent slot car out of the box I've seen in HO. Motors are inconsistent, as well as magnet levels. Bulldogs and TFX are where it's at for more consistency, but as always, there's differences in performance levels out of the packet. I share tuning tips, because I want competition, and by my experience, secrets kill racing. What I've foind, is once I build cars up, the performance gaps car to car, are much narrower than out of the packet. Also, I'd rather help others build faster cars, than make mine slower just to be competitive.

      Thanks for the feedback. I won't say I've been a big fan of the can motors in Mega G+. I think my biggest issue is, that they can't be purchased as a replacement part. Remember when they didn't sell pick up shoes unless they were in a tune up kit too? Considering the fail rate of these motors, or at least the difference in performance levels motor to motor, being able to buy them as a stand alone part is important for racers. I will say I find it harder and harder as time goes on the justify racing the Mega G+. The main reason our racing group focuses on the Mega G+, is we believe we should support current manufacturers, and this is all AFX currently manufacturer. I hope this situation changes in the future.

    Why not use a shorter screw?

      There's no reason a shorter screw couldn't be used, it only needs to be long enough to have a thread the whole way through the top plate.

    If I was up your way I would as I I recently purchased one of those (plus a couple of Viper's and a heap of extra bits and pieces as well) from WA Slots, but Adelaide is a bit of haul. Great to deal with and fast shipping every time. I've just started getting back into slot cars after a long hiatus and having moved from Scalextric to HO racing, for space saving reasons, WA Slots and Show Us Ya Slots have been my go to retailers. Great channel BTW. Very informative for someone new to HO's. 👍

      Thanks for the feedback. I wish I'd have woken up to what was possible with HO back in 2000 when the local commercial 1:24 track burnt down. Could have saved myself a hell of a lot of money doing HO instead of switching to 1:10 RC. It's a shame AFX doesn't push the racing potential of their products, and making people more aware of what's possible in multi lane tracks.

      Thanks slotcardude68, I think the Autoworld series will create an interesting racing series. Hopefully some other racing groups might also pick up the the Xtraction as a racing chassis.

    Nice work, I like the Lexan 917, that would look cool on my white Viper track!
