An Italian Knitter
Italy
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 14 ต.ค. 2011
I’m Francesca and I’m an Italian knitter currently based in Italy. I like to film knitting podcast episodes showing my works in progress and finish objects, but I also like to sometimes experiment with vlogs. Some of the yarn brands I use are Drops, Sandnes Garn, Knitting for Olive and I prefer neutrals, muted, classic shades of color.
An Italian Knitting Podcast Ep. 31 | Dyed Peacock Tee, Tolsta Tank, Hemingway Skirt and catching up
Ciao! My name is Francesca. I'm an Italian knitter and I'm currently based in Italy, after a few years living (and knitting!) abroad.

Where can I find the written instructions for the scarf. Having troubles downloading the pattern. Someone please?
Hey Arianna, you can download the pattern from this page: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/an-italian-summer-scarf Note that there’s a download link in there (no need to have a Ravelry account for this).
@AnItalianKnitter thank you!!!
So wonderful to see you back !! Love the look of your poppy tee sweater version 😍
Thank you! It’s finished now and I kinda want one in every color 😅
Wow, successful FOs and dyes! Very nice to hear about the dyeing process. I have been a bit hesitant in trying to dye a finished knit with market colours, also because they have been wool. I'm also currently knitting a long sleeved Poppy tee 😊 exciting to see yours! I knit mine in Finnish wool+alpaca in colour sand.
When you showed your skirt wip for the first time, I actually thought "oh she might like the skirt pattern I'm writing up" and apparently I was right 😂I can't wait for next summer to be able to wear all the cute knitted skirts again!
Your Peacock looks amazing! That color is perfect for you.
Nice to see an update Francesca! I am looking forward to see you in Florence! 😊
Yes baby! ❤️
Aw so wonderful to watch a video from you after the summer knitting hiatus. Your dying worked out so well, what a brilliant idea!!!!
Thanks for welcoming me back! 🙏
I am a new subscriber and enjoyed the detailed explanations on yarn and your process. I have a beige top that I want to dye and will now move forward after your encouragement. Thank you.
Oh that’s exciting! Good luck and have fun 💪🏼 And thank you for finding me here
Yayy! you are back...I have been missing your podcast. I love how funny you are, especially you don't take yourself too seriously and that comes across very sweet.. Ciao
Thank you for welcoming me back! ❤️
It's nice to have you back! Great color on the Peacock Tee.
It has been so fun to see you again. Right after having a lovely holiday with my knitter friends in Riva del Garda. Also I’ve visited Dublin this autumn and bought some souvenier yarn from Knit it. Such a lovely yarn shop. I love your light blue sweather.
A “knitting holiday” in Riva del Garda sounds blissful! 😍 I’m sure you loved it. Sounds like the perfect time
So good to see you. Great podcast. Your Peacock Tee is beautiful. I love the color, you did a great job dyeing it. You are very brave. The cashmere Poppy Tee Sweater is gorgeous. It's A wonderful thing to be able to treat ourselves once in a while, and especially when its something we make and will wear for years to come. I loved your version of the Tolsta Tank, it does look very stylish. Thank you for all the lovely content.
Re: the Peacock Tee - I felt like I wasn’t really going to wear it in that beige cream color so my options were to either dye it or never wear it, that’s why I went for it 😅💪🏼 Re: Poppy Sweater - I already want to start another project with cashmere! It’s so soft ☁️ Thank you for watching 👋
good to see you back! your poppy long sleeve looks so good and that blue shade suits you so well!
Thank you thank you, I’m excited to finish it up!
Look amazing in the orange wish I could wear it
It’s now back on my needles after the summer and it’s so much fun to knit and look at! 🍊
The plum color is perfect for your coloring. Beautiful!
That’s great to hear!
Thank you. Lovely knitting and the dying was interesting
Oh my goodness, so MANY ways to do provisional cast on, you don't need to bother with a crochet hook!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
❤️😊❤️😊❤️😊❤️😊❤️😊
This was a wonderful video I loved everything you knitted! the colors and fibers are beautiful!!
That’s lovely to hear! Thank you 🙏
Welcome back! I love seeing all of your projects. I was in Dublin last fall and also bought CaMaRose yarn at This is Knit! Twins👯♀️🧶 I haven’t figured out what I want to do with it yet, maybe a cloud sweater.
Twins! Did you pick Snefnug too or a different one? I’m not very well versed in CaMaRose yarns (yet 😎)
@@AnItalianKnitter yes! Snefnug in the color lime. Such an unusual color for me but I was drawn to all of the greens in Ireland☘️
Maybe show us, how you weave in cotton year like the drops saffran? I would be interested.
Great question! I’m generally quite lazy and typically what I do is: - I take the yarn end that needs to be hidden - I split the strand in half - pass one of the two strands behind a stitch - tie a few knots with the two strands
The skirt looks great! No one is going to notice the increase rounds. If they do, they are a bit too close! 😅
@@AnItalianKnitter If it works, it works!! Weaving in cotton and linen did hold me back till now because of the fact that it comes undone, or it is visible on the right side. I believe your method is the same as the method Very Pink Knits shows in one of her tutorials. Thank you for taking the time to write down your answer!
@@janetshepherd9062 Hi Janet, you are in the wrong thread. Doesn't matter, but less people will read it, maybe delete and write again in the reply section on top of all the replies?
@@EV-D-10 thank you. That was yesterday, ha! Have no idea what this was supposed to be about.
There is a great tutorial on a provisional long tail cast on without any distortion, if you know what I mean. You could use that in a next project? It is by 10rowsaday. I think your solution to knit the camisole upwarts first and later on knit it in the round towards the hem is a great one! Also a lovely color on you. I now have seen also that the drops saffran is worth going for. Thank you also for the dyeing information. To dye wool, you even have the water on a boiling point. Don't stir because that felts. Felting is heat+movement together. Very informative podcast and glad to notice that you have found a lovely way of the overall presentation. Thank you!!
I would LOVE to finally learn to appreciate provisional cast ons so thank you for sharing about the tutorial!
Ciao Francesca! Where is the festival? Could you leave the details? Thank you 😊 love your videos
Hey! I did leave the details in the description box but it’s a bit buried among all the other info, so here you go: - knititalia.com - instagram.com/knit.italia - Firenze, Italy - 25-27 ottobre 2025
That blue sweater is stunning. ❤❤❤
YOU are stunning 👋❤️
When you overdye wool, you can make it really hot as long as you don't agitate it. Then let it cool off gradually.
That’s smart! 💡
Hello Francesca! Si glad to see you back! Hope you had a lovely summer with your family! Thanks for this episode and happy knitting season! 😊
Thank you for welcoming me back! ❤️
So lovely to see you back. Everything you have finished and working on look great. Thank you so much for sharing. :)
Thank you for always supporting me! ❤️
Just the other day I was wondering if I missed some episodes of the Italian knitter 😊thanks for sharing again - always enjoyed your videos
I’m back!! 💪🏼 Will I disappear again? Who knows 😅
@@AnItalianKnitter not until Summer again I hope 🤞- I can’t knit in the summer either, but come fall my fingers are itching for some yarn 😉
I wonder if dyes used for dyeing yarn would also be a good choice for dyeing wool sweaters? If it is safe for the yarn it must be safe for the finished garment.
That sounds promising! 💡
Ciao Francesca! I'm new here and intending to stay ☺ I appreciate your authenticity and loved all your updates. Greetings from Munich!
Welcome here! So nice to have you 👋
You're so close to finishing the ribbed cami, do you think you might wear it as a layering piece during fall/winter? Maybe under cardigans or something? Just a thought, it's a shame not to finish it when you are almost done 💙
I know I’m so close! 🙈 I did consider just finishing it BUT the stitch pattern has a lot of twisted rib and my hands don’t want to do it right now: it’s not my fault, it’s their fault 😂
@@AnItalianKnitter I get it, it's never our fault 🤣 We should always knit what we want to knit when we want to! 💙
Gorgeous knits!!!! Also loved seeing you again and you were thought of often. ❤❤❤ Happy Knitting, Kathy
That’s so sweet thank you ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Francesca, if you want to knit a hood for you, there is a lovely pattern from a french designer Émilie Luis called Bonbec. I used to look at your podcast but I never wrote😅
I hadn’t come across it yet so thanks for sharing 🙏
I love the blue cashmere on you! Happy accident for sure. So excited to see you again 💙
To be honest, cardiff classic doesn’t really have bad colors I think 😅 it was an easy win
Clicked super fast! So happy to see a new episode. Hope you are well!
Thank you for being here 🔥
So nice to see you again.. The bright color of the peacock tee looks so good. I look forward to knit the Italian Bandana. It was already in my queue.
Yay! Hope you’ll enjoy it. I find it’s a very relaxing project
Hi! You were missed! So nice to see you again neighbor, greetings from Greece!
Welcome back! I love the dye jobs. That colour is beautiful on you. Enjoy Knit Italia. I would love to be in Florence with you. LOL
Hello, my friend! Nice to see you as always ❤️
I think your cashmere color was a happy mistake! It really suits you and it’s so beautiful! XOXO
Thank you! To be honest, all cardiff classic colors are stunning so I think it was an easy win 😅
Good to see your podcasting again. The colour you dyed your peacock tee really suits you. 🧶🧶
Thank you! 💁🏻♀️
I've been waiting for you to upload another podcast. I just printed out the Italian Summer Shawl.
Thank you for your support!
Hi Francesca, lovely to see you again, I hope you had a lovely Summer, when I saw the tee that you are wearing I thought OMG I must get that yarn in that shade, its devine, now I realise I must dye the garment when knitted, I love your finished sweater and the colour is so good on you, looking forward to hearing about your Italian knitting event, that you for making me smile at your wonderful humour, sending love from Ireland ☘☘
❤️ Glad you like the color as much as me! So looking forward to the knitting festival, hope to get ahold of all the yarn and chat with all the people!
Good to see you again, friend! Your bottom up knitting hack is 🤯 BRILLIANT.. and that skirt looks sooo so so good. Excited to maybe be seeing more of you in these colder, cozier months? maybe maybe?? 😁
Well, I’m BRILLIANT, what did you expect? 😂😂🫶🏼
What a pleasant surprise that you recorded a podcast again! I've missed you! Thanks for your advice on dyeing knitwear, very useful. I also want to compliment you on your neat knitting. Surely hope to see your next video very soon. Hugs, Jolande (The Netherlands)
Thank you for welcoming me back! ❤️
Love the colour of youre Poppy Sweater. ❤👍
Nice to see you back 🥹 I have a hood from knitting for olive and I wear it with a cap, looks very stylish 😻
But that’s because YOU are stylish in general 🫶🏼
Nice to see you again. I love your podcast and your knitting. ❤
Cara Francesca, mi piacciono molto i tuoi podcast, sei molto simpatica.
Your Peacock tees are both lovely! I like the i-cord edge. Maybe you could have poured more water into your dye pot to dilute the dye before pouring it out. I have also dyed white t-shirts when the underarms are too stained to wear them. I'm going to have to try a double-folded hem. It looks very professional. Your skirt pattern is probably very similar to "official" skirt patterns. You found solutions to making a waistband that fits, and a skirt that fits well at your hips, as well.
Thank you, that’s encouraging! 🙏
