San Diego Trains & Traffic Lights
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 4 ต.ค. 2018
This is a channel for anyone who are into different types of traffic lights, pedestrian lights, railroad crossing lights, and other misc lights as well as different kinds of trains and locomotives in San Diego county. I have videos of new traffic lights, old traffic lights, weird designed traffic lights, and other kinds of traffic lights. I also have videos of Coaster trains, Amtrak trains, Sprinter trains, MTS trolleys, and freight trains including locals in Escondido, Miramar, El Cajon, and National City. Finally, I have filmed every single railroad crossing that exists in San Diego that are in service or abandoned. If you like my channel, please encourage others to subscribe to my channel as well if they are interested.
Old Durasig Traffic Lights In Tierrasanta (Clairemont Mesa Blvd & Antigua Blvd)
My videos are now in the Tierrasanta neighborhood of San Diego and you will see more videos for the days to come of some traffic signals around here and if you live in this part of town or are familiar with this area, maybe you'll see something familiar.
This is a very nice intersection and neighborhood to live in because of all the trees, but it's very hilly which is so San Diego. The Durasig traffic lights are pretty old and I am guessing they were installed here in the 1980's because that's when Durasig signals started showing up in San Diego. I don't know why they don't continue doing that today because Durasig traffic lights are lightweight and never fade color. The pedestrian signal has gone through a lot of upgrades over the decades with first a worded neon pedestrian light, then a hand/man neon pedestrian light, then a LED hand/man light, and now a LED countdown light. All of the pedestrian signals here also have a very old and rare pedestrian walk signal audio connected to all of them. It makes the chirp and cuckoo sound. This intersection still has 7 of them with a newer modern one just across the street to the left of here. Another rare thing is that all 8 of them actually work unlike other intersections where only some work or none work at all.
Here are my videos of the rest of the traffic signals at this intersection with the vintage pedestrian audios in action.

You see a lot of these in towns and it's specifically there to tell drivers their speed. The speed limit is 45 miles per hour. If a driver is going 45 mph or less, it calmly shows their speed. If the driver is going slightly over 45 mph, it shows the driver's speed while flashing too. If the driver is going over 50 mph, it's going to flash quickly and tell the driver to slow down. This video was filmed by me on January 7, 2025. This is one hell of a busy intersection at times during the weekly rush hours in the morning and afternoon and it's mainly because of the traffic exiting and entering the I-15 freeway. Can you please update your description? the bird walk audios got replaced with human-like audios.
Is it just me, or do the symbols on those McCain neon pedestrian signals look larger than on the incandescent ones?
It's not you. The neon pedestrian lights are the perfect size and bigger looking than the LED countdown and incandescent ones.

@@TrafficSignalVideosandTrains42 !!! Where r u? Which city r u in?
Buch of these near me, and they don't help
When you were in earlier times, do you remember seeing a logo on those speakers?
I only rode the school bus past here when I was little so I never got to walk around there at the time.
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 the speakers were still there, right?
Yes.
the speakers do have a logo but its hard to see as paint goes on the logo.
@TrafficLightAdventures we need a closer up and more investigation
Notice the long LPI?
Yes, I was there filming it.
Revisit el cajon at highland or Broadway at 10th ave
I pass by those intersections all of the time and have videos of them if you go to the Audios For Pedestrian Signals & Buttons playlist.
They replaced some of the Ped signals to countdown ones.
All of the pedestrian signals have countdowns. I mentioned that in the video description.
You refilmed them! :D Make a closer up of the speaker. Someone said the logo could be faded on the center of speaker.
Cuckoo: modern Chirp: vintage Is there a modern chirp here?
No
Nope. I mention in the description that this is the only modern walk audio here while the other 7 are the old ones.
@ I dont know if an intersection combines both a modern chirp and vintage chirp. Setevens creek blvd and stelling rd in the bay area combines a modern and vintage cuckoo. They have the same pitch but repeat out of sync as the modern speaker is faster than the old one.
Also one thing is that some of them alternate between slow down and the number while flashing.
Yep, that's what you saw in the video.
Can you also go film warning worded lights for car exiting garage? You said there lots of them in your downtown part of the city.
That's not really what my channel is about, but there are lots of them.
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 my channel features them but yeah also I was going to film speed radars but you decided to do before me.
You should add more to your description as this LED sign is also for the police to monitor speed.
I don't think I'm going to add that because not one time have I ever seen police sit near these signs.
I saw this too and the numbers matched perfectly with the cars dashboard speed limit numbers in the car. If the car is tesla brand the speed limit warning just light the sign will make a chiming noise and once i hear the chiming along with seeing the "SLOW DOWN" sign. One thing that is unfortunate is that sometimes like how lots of times in the bay area, a malfunction happens where the numbers keep counting up all the time with lines moving right and up. In Asia the speed limit signs dont flash. They show the number, then display a smile or frown, say nice speed or go slow, go green, yellow, orange or red.
Nostalgic ped light.
It's a countdown now.
What is speaker brand?
No idea. I asked around for two months and no one had an answer.
Most of these speakers are these days being replaced with rectangle shaped ones. Unfurtunately some of these may get phased out with human-like audios if it is not being understood by blind people but yeah even some blind people can understand bird walk audios. I know that there is an intersection in Concord: Clayton Rd & Thornwwood Dr that still has all 8 of these speakers. Do you know if an intersection in San Diego has all 8 of these speakers? Apparently what I mentioned could be the last intersection in the Bay Area with all 8 of them if you look at street view. It was common back then but they have been getting phased out due to audio problems as the audio could be too low pitched, cut out, or be too fast from a loose connection.
Broadway at 10th ave have all 8, but barely some work.
All 8 do not work at Broadway and 10th Ave, but I do have an old video of when two of them were working.

@@outcrasherr downtown san diego? I was in downtown san diego, there is one type of this speaker.
Cool
Backplate wernt nessarry nice anyways

Good. If it works, put it back up.
Yes caltrans exactly how you should do it
That's what I want, too
They used to do it this way. If you find my videos at the intersections of El Cajon Blvd and CA 15, they did the same thing there too in the late 2010s.
Speaker is dead so ins is there. Ins is the button
The chirp cuckoo speakers are not dead, it was turned off by the city because of the talking pedestrian buttons that actually do work if you turn the volume up.
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 why'd they placed the button there then?
Because they count down.
The en2s make a machine gun and no countdown. Sad but rare
Not rare here. Caltrans has a lot of intersections that make that sound and I don't like it.
@ Me neither!!! Gladfully in my state of nj they rarely do that. All they do is the street name and the countdown
If only this was done in other places
That's what I said too.
Awesome
Why does this look brand new?
It looks new because of the yellow backplates, but the signals are very old.
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 are they caltrans traffic lights?
Why is the visors that big? It’s supposed to be small. Also, why did you talk in the beginning of the video when you said you chose not to speak for privacy reasons?
The visors were long so it does not confuse other drivers facing other directions of what signal to look at. Also I was not talking in the video, other people were talking near by.
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 your neighbors? The video looks as though if it was an intersection near your house.
I don't live in that area.
These kind of pedestrian signals are so nostalgic now. In the 1980s, which were E8 Econolite but 1990s those ****incandescent**** retrofit with incandescent pedestrian signals that were symbolic took over all the other neon pedestrian signals, and now all of the in pedestrian signals in the Bay Area are gone.
Luckily theres still a lot of them in San Diego.

The green LED is dead
No it's not. It has a louver inside so it's not visible to pedestrians.

I have question is there still trains moving in the Miramar train yeard? Some of your videos have it which is from December 2024.
Trains are still in the train yard.
I’m not sure I’d say new. By Google street view they were installed around late 2016.
Very important to read my video description because I explained it all there.
Also when you said dumb driver going through red light as I clicked the blue text in your descfiption. There was actually a green in the opposite direction.
