I had planned to wait until spring and some decent weather to finish the 'Dales 30' (hills/mountains in the Yorkshire Dales over 2000') but impatience got the better of me. I camped on nearby Fountains Fell, which was coincidentally, my first ever Dales 30.

Firstly, apologies for the long absence (by my usual standards anyway). Taking advantage of a rare sunny and crisp weather window I chose to return to my local moors, walking in a landscape where, millennia ago, Mesolithic hunter-gatherers would spend their summers and in more recent times, where old moormen would live their lonely lives on the moor-edge. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. 🎄

With gales forecast on the tops and a real need to get away, I decided to spend some time exploring the woods and rolling landscape of the Furness area of the southern Lakes. I spent the night on a local camp-site in the area.
