How do Dave. I don't know why but for some reason I like to put my vids up on a Thursday! Definitely a good place Carlin Gill when you are keen to get out but the weather means a sheltered pitch 👍. When my coat ended up in the brook I momentarily froze in horror as it sailed downstream 😬. Yep, message me any time you are ready. Bye for now, Chris
Absolutely spectacular landscape for your Howgill Fells hike Chris. Looked rough going in parts though, but full of admiration for your challenges. Not much success for loosing your jacket to the wind, but beautifully explained. Had to laugh! Good job you are so experienced in your hiking in wild terrains and map reading. Loved your choice of music too. Well done. Enjoyed sharing your experiences.🙂

Many thanks Bren. I know this is your 'patch'. Thanks for the tip re The Spout. I got seduced by a sheep track that kept me too high up. Carlin Gill is a very special place and a useful place to know when the weather forces a camp at lower levels. Hope you are well pal.

@@ChrisJB I'm in Holme, just a mile or so South of junction 36 on the M6. Although I was born and raised in Bowness, a Westmorland lad!.... different village in those days!😲 Lakes, Dales and Howgills are all less than 20 minutes away... traffic permitting! Tek care,ATB Alistair 👍

Cheers Matt and thanks for the constructive feedback. There does seem to be a thing for longer films these days with the big YT stations but if I'm honest, for me, as a viewer, half an hour is about my limit. I still watch the longer ones but find myself fast-forwarding through bits sometimes. Saying that, I don't know if you watch Dave Goodman's longer trips on YT? Because he's doing the bigger walks he's really good at the longer films and I watch every minute of his. You have definitely given me something to think about. If I were to make them longer, would you like me to include more footage of the landscape or me waffling more? Maybe I should put this out on a future vid' to see what others think? Anyway, bye for now and best wishes, Chris 🙂
Thanks for the reply Chris, I'll have a look at Dave's vlogs, I find that the vlogs you put out are very interesting, informative and funny, so a bit more talking for me, I think 25/30 minutes is great length for a vlog, to be fair I watch more on TH-cam than I do on TV, Thanks for the reply Chris and keep them vlogs coming. It was a relaxing one Roger. The walk fitted in with the window I had and I managed to just miss the worst of the weather. 👌Cheers, Chris
hey Chris, this looks like an epic wild camping. the trail and hike is very scenic. the cascading waterfall and river is beautiful, and hills and mountain is so majestic. over 50-mile wind at the top, wow! enjoy and stay safe our new friend. 👍184 from your new subscriber 😍

Great trip Chris! Too bad about the weather, but you made the best of it! Great story of Wainwright knowing that the survey was wrong! Lovely nature 😄💚💚 I’m hoping to get out for an overnight before too long- day trips are much easier… lol. Thanks for filming and taking us along! 👌👍👍
Thanks Jennifer. I agree, day trips are much easier and the lighter load on the back is always a bonus. Alfred Wainwright is a very famous guidebook writer in the UK. His quirky, idiosyncratic style has endured even though he died over 30 years ago.

Sunning area mate,I’ll have to add it to my wild camping list ,it looks a lot quieter than the lakes⛺️👌
Cheers Paul. If you like quiet, the Howgills are ideal. I didn't see a single person from start to finish on this one.

Hey Chris. I watched the intro in a taverna in Corfu with the wife. Will watch it fully when I get back to the accommodation.

Oooh, Corfu, nice one pal. Hope you have a good time. 😎

Thanks Chris, lots to enjoy here. Castle, monastery, hill top cafe and a beach on the agenda today. One of the highlights of the holiday? A ping from Chris J-B. Why you haven't more subs is beyond me. Still, feels like I'm in an exclusive club.

Hello Andee. Yes, I broke into a cold sweat watching my lovely jacket serenely floating downstream 😬. There is no-where quite like the Dales for me.....maybe my favourite part of the UK. Best wishes, Chris

Thanks Uncle Pete. It's a splendid place but the path is very rough leading up to The Spout. 😬
What a well shot and well edited video of a great little walk. It really captured the essence of being outdoors in the UK

Thank you. 👍
Thursday night's YT night, Julie's out on Thursday's so I always catch up and you popped up. Mint video that Chris, great vibe (bloody hell I used vibe). What fantastic country that is, looks amazing. Visions of you running after your coyt 😂 we've all been there with sumat. I'll drop you a message, got some bits and bob on but the hills beckon 😉. TFS
Hello Shanita. Yes it was a bit rough at times but I managed to get my planning right on this one, being sheltered from the worst of the win and dodging the worst of the showers. The Wainwright guide for the Howgills is a useful book to have too. Bye for now, Chris

Another great video Chris. Carlin Gill, my favourite part of the Howgills absolutely stunning place anytime of year. I must get up on to Uldale Head as its one of the few Howgills I still need to do. I think I may nip up tomorrow. If you had come a little further east from the Blakethwaite Stone the path is easier to the top of the spout, hug the spout fairly close down river right and all is good 🙂
Many thanks Bren. I know this is your 'patch'. Thanks for the tip re The Spout. I got seduced by a sheep track that kept me too high up. Carlin Gill is a very special place and a useful place to know when the weather forces a camp at lower levels. Hope you are well pal.

Splendid scenery. As I get older, one regret is that I never explored the Howgills. But no one can get everywhere in a lifetime, more's the pity.

Great video Chris. Quite close to where I live in Kirkby Stephen but Uldale Head is a Howgill Fell that I have not done yet. Going to have to rectify that this summer. I liked how you had rigged up Cnoc bag for gravity filter inside the notch, good idea!
Hello Sarah. Lucky you living in Kirkby Stephen, a place I like a lot. I often visit some of the nature reserves nearby, Smardale, Waitby Greenriggs, etc and an old pal used to have the Archway Chippy 🙂. Thanks for watching and commenting. Best wishes, Chris.

Howgills are great Chris 👌
Just a couple of miles away from me!
The area round the Blakethwaite Stone is well known as a Backpackers Club wild camp area.
Another superb video, TFS cheers Alistair 👍
How do Alistair. You might've told me before but whereabouts are you? You are a lucky man having these wonderful fells so close. I can see the attraction of the Blakethwaite Stone as a wild camping spot too.
@@WainwrightWalksWiaLocalLad What a lovely place to live! I once did a walk taking in Holme and Hutton Roof and ended up nipping in the pub in Holme. I had two pints and felt all sleepy for the rest of the walk 😴. I've considered a sneaky little camp on Holmepark Fell/Farleton Knott area. I love limestone areas and the wildlife is really good round there. Not sure if it's feasible though. 🤔
@@ChrisJB I'm very lucky, it is a lovely village. It was handy for getting to work in Kendal... before I retired (early!)
I've bivyed a couple of times very close to the top of Farleton Knott/Holme Park Fell. No problems.... for a tent other than getting the pegs in...oh and there's no water of course!

Very informative as always Chris, it's a pity that they are not a little longer, keep it up Chris, cheers.
Thanks for the reply Chris,
I'll have a look at Dave's vlogs, I find that the vlogs you put out are very interesting, informative and funny, so a bit more talking for me, I think 25/30 minutes is great length for a vlog, to be fair I watch more on TH-cam than I do on TV,
Thanks for the reply Chris and keep them vlogs coming.
