    Some nice locations and interesting historical features on your way. Looked like a dramatic weather change on your local mushroom mission. Recognised Piethorn gate, and parts of the reservoir too. Certainly a memory trip for you collating your various clips together Chris.

      Hello Shanita. Yes, my walks at this time of the year often centre on areas where I think I might find some good edible mushrooms. I knew you and Michael would recognise most of the sites 🙂. Bye for now, Chris

    Your mushroom foraging takes you to some very attractive woodland areas Chris.

      Hello Michael. It does. I'm not a fan of autumn really (or winter) so it gives me something to do to help the season pass.

    One of my all time favourite areas, especially the Vocation brewery up Crag Vale ( West Yorkshire though, realised it was a different one half way through) 😉 always interesting videos! Often look at fungi and wonder what it is, but there's always something that puts a seed of doubt in my mind. Brilliant that mate.

      How do Dave. Aye Vocation do some excellent beers. There is a Vocation brewery tap pub in Hebden Bridge nowadays.....lots of choice. The prime mushroom season is pretty much over for me now so I'll be focusing my attention back to other things. Bye for now, Chris

    I'd love to see how you prepare and serve all these. We had an amazing year here in Alaska for mushrooms, with so much fall rain. I only really know a few species but I'm sure there are many more.

    • @ChrisJB
      @ChrisJB  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello Karen. I've tried fancy recipes but they aren't so good if I'm honest. I've decided simple is best, with a nice cooked breakfast or stir-fry. I also dry lots of them so I can store them for longer. I bet Alaska is splendid for mushrooms. When I visited Alaska in 2002 I wasn't really into fungi then so would love to go back again in the mushroom season. 🙂

    Yet another belter of a video, Chris. I would be dead in 10 minutes if i tried mushroom hunting. 😅😅😅
    I'm sure you've been, but have you taken a look around Brockholes Nature reserve at Preston or maybe Grizedale up near Garstang. Two cracking places for a nature genius such as you. 😊

    • @ChrisJB
      @ChrisJB  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Bren. Something a bit different but it breaks up the never-ending wild-camping sequence a bit! I know Brockholes well but not familiar with Grizedale. I'll have a shufty on the map. Best wishes, Chris 👍

    Hi Chris,
    Every time I try to watch this on my telly, it freezes when you get to the 'coffin stone.' 🤷‍♂️ Buggers up the whole thing and I have to reboot at the switch 😂
    Anyway, another enjoyable mash up. I don't particularly like mushrooms and certainly wouldn't trust myself to forage for them, but I was riveted throughout.
    Cheers, Paul

    • @ChrisJB
      @ChrisJB  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Rivetted? That's praise indeed 😀! I can't say I'm a massive mushroom either but I like looking for them.
      I wonder why it keeps freezing 🤔

    My partner does a lot of foraging- finds all sort of mushrooms here in North Yorks, comes home with a bag full. I was a bit dubious the first time I ate those little purple things! He finds a lot of the porcinis and makes a nice wild mushroom stroganoff type of thing.

    • @ChrisJB
      @ChrisJB  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello Carrie. I've not done much foraging in North Yorks but I'd imagine there are some good sites......maybe next year. I've made a similar stroganoff. I think I got the recipe from these (a brilliant resource I find with excellent YT vids): www.wildfooduk.com/

    A pretty fair collection in the end Chris. You want to make sure you're not in the coffin being placed on that stone after eating the wrong ones eh? You did a good ID check list it must be said. I imagine you had a reasonable cook up after. All the best as always. Mark

    • @ChrisJB
      @ChrisJB  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep, not bad Mark, though not as good as the autumns of 2022 and 2023. I still haven't managed to find a giant puffball though, ever, anywhere. One day hopefully. I've tried fancy recipes with what I find but to be honest, I enjoy them the best the simple way, in a nice cooked breakfast, with bacon and eggs, etc. Have a good weekend and best wishes, Chris

    Always look forward to your videos. I'd love your knowledge. I was going to ask where you get your information from, but I found you replied to a previous comment with a link.
    You mentioned you're a member of National Trust, is it a better choice than the English Heritage?
    We've been up in Northumberland, specially Berwick-upon-Tweed, visiting Bamburgh Castle and Lindisfarne, if you haven't visited, I'd highly recommend them.
    On a side note and I doubt you'd remember. I asked you a while back about flint on Winter Hill and surrounding areas. I still haven't found any !!
    As always, an enjoyable video and thank you for spreading your knowledge.
    Tom.

      Cheers Tom. Yes, I highly recommend the website/YT stations I mentioned. Call me old fashioned but I still like a good ol' book too. There is an excellent one by Roger Phillips that is very comprehensive.
      I've never been a member of EH but do support what they do, big time. The NT works for me as they do a lot of good stuff but it's also handy for free parking at a lot of places too. I guess what I'm saying is I can't afford to be a member of everything, even though I'd like to 🙂.
      We used to holiday up in Northumberland quite a bit, staying on a campsite just north of Bamburgh, by Budle Bay. Aye, Lindisfarne is fab'.
      Re finding flints, it's very hard nowadays. Thanks to the excellent moorland restoration work that is being done in the Pennines, most of the erosion patches where I used to find them have all vegetated over.
      Best wishes, Chris

    Hi Chris, hope you’re well mate? Was Madeira good?
    Looked like some lovely walks there, must go on the walk round cragg vale, could finish with a pint at the Robin Hood.
    With I had confidence to eat wild mushrooms, but think I’d end up getting it wrong and turning my toes up, love to find Porcinis, they are very absorbent, they usually sell em dry and they rehydrate in no time.
    Keep threatening a wild camp but weathers crap and got a bit on, but first window I’ll be out.
    All the best pal TtT 😊

    • @ChrisJB
      @ChrisJB  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      How do Tito. Cragg Vale is great and the famous geese there always put a smile on my face when I see them. The Robin Hood is brill' and I'm due another visit myself.
      Wild edible mushrooms, genuinely are not hard to get to grips with. Start with a few easy ones and build up and there are very few species that would do serious damage. This site I find invaluable and their YT vids especially: www.wildfooduk.com/
      I'm back working full-time now and not finding it as easy to get out camping but did manage a local one recently. ATB pal, Chris

    • @ChrisJB
      @ChrisJB  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Soz, Tito for the late reply. I did reply earlier but my comment vanished! Madeira was great pal, I really enjoyed it. A seriously steep place though, no wonder there isn't a national crown green bowling team 😉.
      I love Cragg Vale. I'm just really drawn to it....wonder if I lived there in a past life? Saying that, my great-grandfather went to the big old school there (flats now I think) and the famous Cragg Vale Geese always keep me entertained.
      The mushroom thing isn't that hard to learn really. Just start with a few easy ones and build up.
      As for camps, my new job is full-time and I'm struggling getting a decent weather window at weekends.
      Bye for now, Chris

    Yo Chris hope your doing well…..been waiting for you’re next post and again you didn’t disappoint.
    Informative, educational, inspirational in that this vid should encourage people to doorstep their local area because you never know what’s there.
    On a more scientific issue!!!!!
    As you might recall I live very close to Thorne Moor…a SSSI, I’ve noticed that, although some of the lowland moor was inhabited by rhododendrons c. 15 years ago my fungi foraging wasn’t inhibited by the rhododendron species however, because of the reduction in central govt funding to Nat Eng moor management was reduced as opposed to what was required by the Management Plan and the bloody Rhododendron overtook quite a bit and thus limited the fungi species count and species spread. However, taking into consideration the management issues alongside global warming……so here is your A level ?
    Do you think that rhododendron over population affects fungi production (not quite sure if that’s the correct term) or is could it be affected by global warming regardless of habitat condition…..DISCUSS
    Anyways Chris….loved this one as always you don’t need to wild camp to enjoy your posts and as ever I always promote your channel to any interested person I meet.
    Keep posting mucka….Bessies Ron

    • @ChrisJB
      @ChrisJB  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks as always Ron. As for your rhododendron question, being invasive, I would expect it to play a part in reducing fungi numbers. Also, the growth of it is often so impenetrable it would make searching hard. Of course, many other factors play a part and I'm sure the vagaries of unpredictable weather caused by global warming do as well.
      Near me, in the Wessenden Valley, the National Trust have been wisely removing big areas of rhododendron. The aftermath looks a mess but it will recover and the landscape will be better for it.
      Best wishes pal, Chris

    • @ChrisJB
      @ChrisJB  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Michael, I always like receiving constructive criticism. I have this inbuilt hostility to anything click-baity or remotely sensationalist when it comes to YT and it probably also translates to a lack of effort on my part too! In all honesty, I'm getting a bit bored making almost purely wild-camping videos, they are all so formulaic and 'samey'. I'm not sure what the answer is, whether to plough on and hope I get my enthusiasm back, diversify (which would be a better reflection of my wider countryside/nature interests) or have a bit of a break.
      Thanks again Michael. Your valuable comment has given me stuff to think about. 🙂
