      Is it really an outdoor ecosystem if it can't support itself? Kind of I guess.

    • @roystone5369
      @roystone5369 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @sidneyvandykeii3169 you could not touch it again and it will adjust to what it needs, man. It's a complete eco system. Yes it's thriving now with extra help, but the fact is it would probably out live all of us with no help

    • @sidneyvandykeii3169
      @sidneyvandykeii3169 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      @roystone5369 But it wouldn't be the same Ecosystem without his support. It 100% will be AN ecosystem, but it wouldn't be this current ecosystem.
      Don't get me wrong, I love this channel and have watchedcevery video from day one (I've no clue how the algorithm brought me this channel). I was just hoping it would be more selfsustaining.

    4:05 I’d say the little heron you’ve spotted is a green heron. It’s a little challenging to see from the distance as it could also be the American bittern. Both share that same stripe pattern on the neck and breast plumage.

    Instead of throwing in shiners and such for the bass at the dock, try throwing in bluegill, they’ll likely still target them since they’re conditioned to feed on pretty much anything that hits the water, also could get them to try and feed on the bluegill more on their own.

    • @703fishing3
      @703fishing3 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

      @@timg2798I’ve watched every video of this pond since day 1, i am aware of that they won’t eat them this is just a proposed option to try and get them to feed on them. It is no secret that for the bass to truly grow they must eat large forage, it costs less energy to eat one big bluegill than 15 shiners. It’s quite common for fish to not move to larger forage even in natural systems as well. I don’t believe the shad are growing to large size either, at least I can’t remember him mentioning it. He has a great opportunity to condition the fish to prey on larger forage through his supplemental dock feeding, and I think it might work.

    For a new project, I'd like to see a trout creek/river running down the edge of the farm fields and into the pond. Something like 10 to 20 ft wide and a couple feet deep. Build some holes and pockets throughout the small river for fish to sit in. Supply water with some high-powered pumps and large tubing from the pond. I'm not sure if it could work, but it would be awesome.
    It's always great to see your pond thriving! Would love to visit and fish it someday.

      I wonder if floating lettuce and Iris would help with shade and clarity. They would die off in the first freeze. Maybe the pond guys can help him out with some ideas.

    • @WereAllThatBored

      @@chickenhouse5779 Im not criticizing him when I say this, but the formula he is using is exactly what all pond managers follow if you want a lake that is an underwater desert aside from man made structure. Had top water action,in 46 degree water. Yes, bass eat pellets, had about a dozen 4 pounders eating them. Yes, had the biologist shock the pond every spring , around spawning time. Taking out 125 pounds, this controls the over crowding. Any bass 15 inches, or less would be taken out the rest of the year. Never allow Canadian geese in you pond, or comorons.

    I respect this project endlessly, but you are going about the ecosystem building incorrectly. You should have bass weighing in at 5+ pounds by this point considering the amount of forage and size of the pond. You have stock nearly double or triple the ponds capacity and lowered its ability to hold healthy big bass by stocking a variety of fish like tilapia and trout which reduce the forage amount for the base species.

    You need some aquatic shade structures, a rocky stream would help with aeration and filtration

    I think that was a green heron. Usually I see later in the evenings. Nice to see one out during the day, Nice colors.

    The bird is a Green Heron. Closely related to the American Bittern. In different light, it would be easier to see the dark green in its wings and tail feathers.

    The small Heron type birds are American Bittern, they must feel very comfortable at your pond because they usually live a very stealth life in the tall yellowed/dried vegetation. They will stretch up their beak upward when movement around them and they perfectly camouflage in the tall vegetation.

    American Bass kind of remind me of Perch over here in Éire. Also sounded like a military turbo prop flying over the pond on 5:10 😁

    Very entertaining and informative video! Really enjoyed your game camera vids of the night feeding bucks, does and raccoons. Luckily, I didn't see any evidence of feral pigs. Sure hope you don't have to deal with those critters! Feral pigs are a huge problem here in Florida. Best of luck with everything else!

    The bird you were referring to looks to be a Green Heron. If it had more color then I'd say it were a Kingfisher. Either way they're both really cool, I love watching the few I have on my 2 Acre lake. Glad everything's ok with your lake brother!

    The small bird at 4:22 is a juvenile Green Heron. Black cap, dark wings with white spotting which you see in juveniles, pale underside, the brown striping up to the neck indicates its young age, greenish face, orange beak.

    The thing is with Algie waters grow lots plants about the pond they keep it clearer suck up any phosphates & fertilisers than leach in run off when it rains .
    An easy fix future proofs ponds algie can kill your fish if it gets to toxic levels . Good luck been watching this pond from 1st build impressive learnt a few tricks also cheers!!

    Hey quick thought is to maybe test out another scale, you could be double checking the weights to make sure their accurate. Also, I wonder for the shots of the fish jumping for Nate is to put the camera nice and low at the water level, you might get some better shots. Thanks for the great content!
