  • I was at the grand opening of World of Volvo in Gothenburg. To get there, I drove my Volvo EX30 Twin Motor Performance Ultra. In this video, I discuss charging, planning, software and much more regarding the Volvo EX30.

    Well, after driving the EX 30 now for 4 weeks in Germany now, I can say it’s a great car, fun to drive and powerful, fantastic design. But the software 1.2.1 is full of “bugs” and hopefully the Volvo IT department is watching your videos and read simultaneous in the EX 30 forum to learn more about it and fix them as soon as possible. It would be a pity if Volvo loose their reputation as a premium manufacturer because of this.

    Taking delivery of an EX30 on Tuesday, it's coming with v1.3 👍

    Thanks for the review! One of the improvements listed in the upcoming v1.3 firmware (from reddit) is "Reduced range deviation between Google and driver information on the center display". Hopefully that fixes one of the main issues you found.

    Thanks for the review! Got mine a few weeks ago and it's bittersweet. Car drives great but the software is terrible. My Volvo app stopped working a day after leaving the dealer and my internet stopped about a week later. Funny enough when you tether the car to wifi the cell phone signal indicator seems to come back saying I do have an LTE connection indicating a software bug.
    In the meantime ex30 owner tip: If you create an automation on your iPhone to turn on the hotspot when connecting to the car's bluetooth you don't have to do the tethering dance every time you go for a drive :)
    Fingers crossed the next update will fix this stuff. The dealership seems to think so...

    I have an ex30 twin ultra and have the same experience with the climate controle. Less than 22 degrees feels cold. Have no internet connection. I have a Total of 896 km with a average consumption of 22.1 kWh/100km. For the most part I’ve driven the car from home to work. About 35km per trip. Around 25km of those 35 are drijven in the highway. I’m living in the Netherlands where the avarage temperature is higher then in Zweden.

    Can the charge percentage be controlled via the app? Or the charging range in amps? I'm assuming you can set designated times for when you'd like it to charge? In relation to home based charging

    • @theelectriccarmagazine
      @theelectriccarmagazine  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, at the moment you change that in the car only. The amps can also only be changed in the car. Yes, it’s possible to schedule charging, that can be done in the app and the car.

    21.5kwh/100km is really bad for those conditions and at such a slow speed. It's quite a bit worse than what I've seen in other reviews at higher speeds. Strange. You didn't have AWD performance enabled by any chance?

    • @theelectriccarmagazine
      @theelectriccarmagazine  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, not performance mode. Consumption is usually higher in Sweden than other parts of Europe as we have rougher asphalt, makes quite the difference.
      On that note, would be interesting to know when the front motor were active and not..

    • @jurgeggler8455
      @jurgeggler8455 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A true pain that the conditions (temperature, wind, tyre, wheel size, rain, road condition, profile of terrain) have such an impact on the consumption so that an objective comparison between the different test rides is often not possible.

    I'm in Västerbotten .. I have all the same issues as you. Also waiting for the software updates .. really enjoy driving the car. But I don't trust the car and that's not what you buy a Volvo for. Wife's C40 is great and my previous Polestar 2 was fine.

    The consumption is in-line with what I would expect from such a SUV. The WLTP range estimate of 450km is ludicrous if you do any kind of higher speed driving. I really hope people looking at this car do a good test drive and don't believe the WLTP estimate. Overall it's a nice car, but would really benefit from ~80kWh battery like the ID models. I think around 300km 10-80% is a good value for a 'road-trippable' electric car, since making a stop every 200km or so gets a bit tedious especially in countries without such good infrastructure so you cannot guarantee the charging infrastructure will line up well with you itinerary.
