I've had my EX30 for nearly two months and yes to all of those! You didn't mention that there's also the issue of the centre screen randomly going black and rebooting. OTA update 1.3 has been withdrawn and is only available from dealerships. Volvo make ok cars - software needs a lot more work.
Oh, it's what I meant when I talked about infotainment being unresponsive, though mentioning the screen going black probably would have been clearer. The software definitely needs some love, I hope Volvo gets on it fast, or they will have many unimpressed customers and perhaps not too many new sales going forward. That's such a shame that OTA has been withdrawn, makes no sense to me. Just give people more of a hassle?
I'm not sure actually! But maybe I can look at it in another video, it would be interesting to see how different EV brands compare in terms of software
Good research and presentation of the issues with this car. Sure most will be fixed through the magic of software updates, but nice to know before you buy
Thank you! I'm preparing a video about the software update, so I'm curious to see what all it will fix and if any new bugs will come with it. I was surprised by some quite fundamental bugs that any EV driver would have immediately discovered if they had the car at home for a week. Car companies terribly underestimate these tests with real drivers
Just to add in case it happens to anyone else. There's also issues with the new car wash mode in version 1.3. I've used it once and started having issues with the button from the boot not working most of the times and not opening the boot (using the screen, the boot would open every time). The mirrors also started having issues and not unfolding sometimes when the car was unlocked. Reseting the car, fixed all the issues. But I bet maybe reseting the screen would solve the issues as well.
Oh man, it seems the software developers don't have any test cars available. If they did and drove them to lunch at least, they'd get a lot of things sorted out before releasing an update 😅
I don't know of anything else right now, these are all the issues I was able to find. Hopefully most of them will be fixed with the software update, though of course some new ones may come along as well. I'm preparing a video on the update now, so definitely stay tuned for that. You can also check out this forum www.ex30forums.com/, there's lots of information there 😊
Connectivity issues yes, it took 10 days until the car sim modem started to work, and the data connection is weak. And yes the 6 amp issue for charging
Thanks for this review. I have the car for several weeks now and can confirm all of mentioned with 1.3.1. My fist experience with Volvo, and honestly, quite dissapointment on quality. Most people around ask me for my experience and I cant promote the car with so many user comfort issues. I'm currious if and when we will see them fixed.
That's such a bummer, it looked like a really nice option (other than the lack of a driver display) when I first started looking into it. I do hope they are able to work out these issues soon so people like you can enjoy their ride. My first car was a Volvo and I really loved it back in the day, so I'm rooting for them, though technically it's a different company now I guess
Thanks for the advice especially about opening the doors. Wouldn’t it be great if the Volvo garage could have told me. I am hoping my phone will be the key soon. I had software 1.3.1 and it solved some issues including the 6V problem.
I confirm everything. The fact of not having a switch off of the car is very annoying, if I have to wait while I recharge I have to turn off the radio, headlights, fans. Or simply while I get home and need to unload some things (and here there is also the other problem of closing the doors, when I move away and get closer, every time...my god how annoying) There is a switch off mode (but you get there after at least four taps) but it also turns off the screen... then as soon as you open a door everything turns back on, why?? it does not make sense. A long press of the P button may turn off everything except the screen. Easy.
Sheesh, it sounds like Volvo is in desperate need of a UX testing department. Or like at least get one or two guys to take the car for a spin before sending it to market. This is really unbelieavable for such an established brand 🙄 The one thing I can let them slide on is the proximity key opening. It works the same in my Citroen and it is supposed to work this way, which is very useful in some ways, but frustrating if you're near the car or loading/unloading as you mention. I would probably switch to the unlocking by touching the door handle, which luckily you can do in the EX30. Unfortunately I don't have this option in my e-C4, but had it in my e-Golf and I loved it
Software 1.3 is officially released, I'm currently preparing a video about it, so I'm very curious to see how many bugs from the video have been fixed.
Thanks for mentioning the problems. I'm driving the EX30 for about 2 months and 3300 km and can confirm all of the named problems. The performance and the car's hardware is great, but the software problems are annoying. E.g. simple things like the charging current limt, has it never been tested? Then there is an update, but the german language is messed up and the update must be redrawn, incredible quality control.
I can imagine those software problems get annoying when you have to deal with them every day. They're mainly small issues, but when it builds up when they happen all the time. Were you also surprised that there was no mention of these problems in press reviews? It's really difficult to find objective reviews and info about new cars on YT, just filmed press releases from the same journalists over and over again. Well, I guess there's a good reason they keep getting asked to come back 😄
@@siasek Fortunately, most problems are minor and there are workarounds, except the bad internet connection in the car, which is necessary for navigation, charge preparation and speach commands. The Harman&Kardon logo issue… seriously? The software, connectivity and door opening issues are real annoyances. Something you can’t fix, is the absence of a head up display. Furthermore, leaving in the UAE, the app is not available making it more difficult to access the car’s features. However, the car is a real good drive. It’s compact agile and very pleasant.
Well, the logo is an issue for enough people to have a whole discussion thread about it, not to mention some comments even on this video. I know it would bother me if I kept getting blinded by a metal reflection, but maybe you have very good shades or less sensitive eyes or something 😊 The lack of a driver display or at least a HUD is one of the reasons I nixed the EX30 from my selection. I do hope in time there will be after-market mods available, like there are for Tesla. I'm glad to hear it's a good drive and I do hope Volvo is working on getting rid of these software issues. As another commenter said, it's a good car, that has been marred by poor software development.

Great review, very accurate. On my car the internet connection did not work from new. Has taken three months before hopefully it has been fixed. Yes the radio cuts out when lifting your foot off the throttle. Covered the Harmon Kardon sign with black tape. Crazy to have to do this with a brand new car. Personally I think it’s an absolute disaster due in part to regulatory requirements and designers vanity. I agree with you , that you have to question if the car was road tested before being released. This is a great car ruined by poor development.
Your last sentence sums it up perfectly, it's really a shame and I hope Volvo takes their time to properly resolve these issues. These issues are wild to me because the Polestar 2 (Polestar was originally under Volvo) has really excellent software, but I guess they have since split and don't collaborate anymore? Because instead of using the perfect software from Polestar 2 Volvo seems to have built the EX30 software from scratch and it's a fiasco. It's interesting (though not too surprising) that no journalists mentioned any of this in their reviews, they must not have tested it very well. Great idea about a review of the central screen, I'll definitely look into it. Thank you!
