I’m bored out of my mind with a fever/flu; I’m so happy to see an update on the 968 pop up 😁

You did the right thing. Do it once and do it right. You 're doing great.

Thank you very much! It feels like everything I touch on this car leads to two more things that needs doing 😅

@@GarageBiljon I bought a 23k mile "perfect" one and have spent 25k making it perfect...tell me about it!

The water pump on my 944 was working perfectly and it had over 220,000kms on it. I replaced it anyway when doing all the front end seals etc.

That's what I figured too, It will be 5 years before I will be in here again, so everything fresh is better.

Mine failed around 130.000 kms leaving me stranded on the way home from holiday in France. I had just done (well had done) all the belts etc so felt stupid for skimping out on the pump.

If you can’t get a good replacement balance shaft hoisting at a reasonable price, may I suggest a bit of JB Weld in the dent in the housing as a repair? File smooth any rough or proud edge and scuff the inside of the dent. I’d use original JBW or Steel Stick or whatever you feel works best.

Thank you, I did not think of that, great idea!

If you want to make your life easier, pull the bumper and the radiator especially now you are changing the water pump. Access to the lower area is much better then. I seem to remember the removal of the steering pump is somewhat illogical. I think there is a bush that pulls out of the one of the brackets which allows it to slide out. Next task is probably the oil filter housing but that really is a challenge.

Thanks for the advice, I have found the instructions for the pump, and I missed the bush in the front. What a strange design.

Jon, no apologies needed. Any possibility that there is an oil leak from the balance shaft housing itself? From what I understand, the only real way to get the lower housing off is to remove the engine. Hope that your housings are solid and not leaking.

Thanks Jon, I probably have to double check the housing, let's hope she's fine. I am sure I can get to it if I remove the intake manifold...then I can replace those gaskets as well 😅

Just out of curiosity, how much money are you into this thing in parts? Your doing great by the way thanks for the videos!

Thank you Grayson, to be honest I am not keeping track of it. I tend to restore my cars based on cashflow rather than budget. The reason for this is that it allows me to enjoy the process rather than look at it as sunken costs. But I would not be surprised if I am 10k Euro deep into this one already.
