    Great video! I just acquired a 968 of my own. I've always liked transaxle Porsches because of how different they were from what we typically associated with the manufacturer.
    I never realized how rare 968s are until recently, and I feel very fortunate to have found one. Looking forward to learning it fully and sharing some content of my own!

    I have owned my 94 968 coupe for 11 years and absolutely love it. It is Iris Blue Metallic with a two tone Midnight Blue and Light Grey interior. The are remarkably fun to drive and very nicely balanced. As you said, they are not often seen on the road but those that are out there seem to be very well maintained. Thank you for the great review!

    I remember seeing one of these 968s for the first time in 1992. I was living in Montpellier and just happened across one parked on the street. Amongst my memories was my friend getting annoyed with me, because I stopped to stare and walk around the car much longer than he thought necessary.
    I would buy one now if I had the chance. It would be an absolute impulse purchase, as I do not have any practical reason to need one.

    Thanks for taking the time to review the 968! I'm a bit of a transaxle aficionado having owned a 924S, 944S2 coupe and cabriolet, as well as a 968 coupe. I've been Porsche less for the last six years due to that season of life with a son going into college. But......a person can only take so much. I'm taking delivery of a 968 cabriolet next week with great excitement and fanfare.
    I have enjoyed each of these cars for various reasons. Are they a 911 turbo or 911 GT? Of course not. Porsche didn't mean them to be compared. As your review points out so well, they were meant to be enjoyed and it's quite easy to accomplish that without breaking the bank! And , you'll own a true Porsche sports car! Thanks for the review Jay!

    Hi Jay. Another thoroughly enjoyable video. Love the fact you are reviewing a all things Porsche and not just the 911. Would love to see a review of the 928 - my dream car and immortalised by the film “Risky Business”. I’m on a bit of a Porsche high today - my 986 was in for it’s first MOT under my ownership, which it sailed through with no advisories!👍. Nice review Jay. I’m lucky enough to to have a 968. I can tell you that just like all of the early Porsches, the tiptronic is severely underrated. The 968 is not so much a sports car in my view, but a very nimble grand tourer. Because it’s a variocam you do really need to explore the top end of the Rev range to get the most enjoyment out of it. And as you said at the start of your description, car people really get the 968 and want to talk about it. Really enjoying your channel, and your down to earth and balanced approach. 👍

      Hey thanks, Stuart! Jon (my friend who facilitated the use of this car for me and who is selling it for the owner) and I were talking about the Tip and agreed that we thought it would work well in this car. Good to hear it confirmed here by you. Actually, and here’s the slightly heretic thing to claim, it works well in the 996 for the same reason but some insist that a 911 MUST have a manual! I was genuinely looking forward to driving this car based on what I had read about it since its launch and it really didn’t disappoint!

It's been extremely well taken care of and is black along with the same interior as the one you show here. But it is not a manual gearbox. He's asking 12k. I'm very tempted. Thanks for the ride. Always wondered myself what a 944 and 968 would be like. In those days I was in an Alfa GTV6. The headlights on the 968 have a look of the 993, but the pop up operation seems more like the 928. Have you driven one of those? If not, I'd enjoy seeing your experience in one. I really like the spec on that car. Like you point out, the Midnight Blue over the brown interior is a marvelous combination. The 968 was the penultimate version of the 924/944 line of Porsches, but for some reason was mostly forgotten here in the US until just recently when *all* the transaxles are making their overdue and justifiable comebacks among the purists. Fun fact, those headlights were also used on the (exceedingly rare) 964 Turbo S Flachbau.

    Thanks for this great video. Elegant looking overall. Especially like the headlights to the wheel arches. It works with the rest of the car and yet it seems like the front is morphing into a 911 while the rest is 944. The rear passenger windows are a bit more quirky than elegant, but seems to echo the similar rectangular shapes (e.g., steering wheel, some front and rear lighting elements. All and all a nice looking package.
    Suspension sounded a bit crashy when you initially started, but I happen to know that approach to the Tappan Zee bridge and it can get quite littered with potholes in the winter. Although, I suspect that enormous speaker box might not be helping.

    I had 2 968s over about 10 years. Loved driving them, hated maintaining them. The interiors were full of cheap, delicate plastic bits that would break, and they leaked oil liked a fright pig. Porsche did not make many of them (10,000 odd as I recall) and most of them are long gone. Finding a mech who can fix these is a challenge (most of them are long gone as well). Most parts are NLA. So if you like a project car that you'll be fixing and hunting for parts for more than you drive it then the 968 is a great car. That big 4 sure does sound nice.

    So - I have one, a UK sport model, and I love everything about it - apart from, that is, the engine. I feel it is just too agricultural - 3l mean it is long stroked, a bit like a diesel, and just not that responsive. This means I end up picking my 944 turbo se every time - there is no comparison. That said, I am not selling it. Go figure.

    • @JAYREAD
      @JAYREAD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh that’s an interesting viewpoint. I did this video a while ago and from memory I reviewed it as if it is a sports car. I am wondering however if it is actually a GT car in which case, with that framing, the engine isn’t so bad. A LOT of people say the 944 is the better sports car though.

    • @sgp5047
      @sgp5047 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JAYREAD I hear you - but from a GT engine I’d want loads of low down torque, and no vibration. I don’t want to have to push above 4K revs. So no 4 cylinder, almost by default. I think the car was positioned as a sports car by the company, and I think it has the chassis of a sports car, not a GT. I genuinely think this is maybe one of their finest chassis (better than 944) with one of their least rewarding engines. And maybe one of their most elegant bodies. Personally I feel the shake aged better that even the venerated 993. Which makes the engine even more frustrating.

    I love the front of the 968, I didn’t know the headlights were pop up. They looked great. The interior was good for its age. Good quality. 👍
    Over the video the engine sounds average, just another engine TBH. Certainly not sports car sound, unless it’s different in person. Would you call this a sports car? It’s a Porsche hatch back isn’t it? Just because it has a Porsche badge doesn’t mean it’s a sports car, mind you to counter that, does a sports car have to look sporty to be a sports car?? I’m not sure?? It’s a good car though?
    “Can’t say much about the back” , there’s a reason for that, so talk about the boot instead!
    Well that’s because the back is ugly. It’s like seeing a pretty woman’s face but not the body, then as you look down the big surprise comes.
    The back of this car is a real let down which is a shame because the rest is great. Mind you it’s still a classic car and if I had the room would have it in my collection. PARKED SO ONLY THE FRONT CAN BE SEEN😂🤣

      Interesting! What defines a sports car? I would say: handles well (check), changes direction easily (check), a car for drivers (check), two seater (check). Yeah, I’d say it more than qualifies in this area, Mr H! I don’t mind the back of it either! I must say though, it’s a really good car. I liked it a lot and if it isn’t sport enough for you now, you could easily and cheaply make it so. all the ingredients are there, believe me!

      If you have to add things to make it sportier then it’s questionable? Although it does beg the question, What cars are sporty but don’t look it??
      All I can say about the back is “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”
      Some of my opinions can be harsh so I thought I would get a second opinion. My boy laughed me out the room when I asked him about the back, he didn’t like it. My wife said it looked like a Renault Lagoona, which just about summed it up.

      @@mrh6577 HAHAHAHA! I never mind harsh opinions so long as they are held with conviction. Each to their own, my friend, as you say. I’d have one in a heartbeat though. My kind of motor. No, I wouldn’t have a Laguna just before you ask! Lol!

    Why does he think you want to spend so much time looking at his face. Then he keeps standing in front of the car which you want to see. Irritating!
