  • Just a video of what I've done to sort the tapping out of the balance shaft located at the bottom of the engine
    I found a few videos online of what people have done and I've tried to make a bit of a better video to help out hope this helps

    I've tried doing this, decoupling the balance module. Makes the engine so much quieter! However the vibration is terrible!
    Someone needs to do a delete kit that involves replacement engine mounts that control the vibration!

      I honestly don't think my engine vibrates anymore than any other diesel I've seen

    Lee, I've done the removal of the balance shaft as the clatter was getting ridulous,..only thing I've forgot to do is remove the 2 x plastic cover on the Pick up thingy,. Do you think it will be OK or should I remove the sump again and take them off.
    Appreciate your advice.
    Many thanks

    Hi Lee,
    When you removed the metal block and left the shaft in place, did you have any problems with the oil pressure at all.
    There are some kits on ebay for 50 quid to block oil holes if you remove the shaft ?

    • @leesheard2466
      @leesheard2466  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No none at all the oil only pumps upto the balance shafts it dosnt go to the metal block this is why I left the shafts in as if u remove them it will drop the oil pressure as there will be no restriction in that area

    Im having a problem with my 4n14 engine rattling but its loudest when i first start the car still rattles all the time but worst when it first starts do you reckon it could be the balance shaft issue in the video

    • @leesheard2466

      It could be mate it's hard to tell but get the car running and open bonnet have a look and see if u can pin point the noise when I had it u had to get under car and u could tell it was from near the bottom of engine hope that helps

      @leesheard2466 thanks definitely sounds like the bottom just not sure as it's louder at start up then dulls down a bit just hoping it's not the chain 😬

    How is the drive block thing removed, what holds it in place?

    • @leesheard2466
      @leesheard2466  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Take the sump off remove oil pickup then 4 bolts hold the balance shaft unit remove that and the block falls out its kinda wedged into position

    Since doing the coupling delete there is no more noise but I’m getting a low oil pressure warning

    • @leesheard2466
      @leesheard2466  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Did u install the balance shaft unit ? Is it only the square coupling u removed?
      Also did u clean all the oil pickup as it has a metal filter on the end mine had some bits of sealant stuck in so I removed all this
      But I never had any other issues with mine since I did this

  • @stevehawcroft

    Hi Lee mine just done the same , does the piece you took just slide in ? How does it come out? Also where the teeth all broken inside the balance unit?

    • @leesheard2466
      @leesheard2466  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi i think u need to drop the balance unit for the block to come out and I didn't look at the teeth if I'm honest there was no signs of metal filings in the sump but while I had the sump off I did clean the oil pickup pipe as it had a few bits of rubber gasket on the gauze

    How’s the engine going with the balance module disconnected Lee? Is it ok at higher revs? Can you please do a video of driving it showing the revs?

    • @leesheard2466
      @leesheard2466  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes no problems from the engine now it did have a bad idle but I found that it was a bad earth so I've fitted an earth strap kit to engine and it seems to have sorted it used to rev up and down when turning on blowers now stays at around 800 rpm

    Hi lee sheard I would be happy to consult with you I have a 2017 Outlander with a noise from the crank area.
    1. Did you disassemble the entire unit including the gears that drive with the help of the crank?
    2. Did the change not create a problem for you with oil pressure because it is clear that the amount of oil needs to be increased?
    Thanks

    • @leesheard2466
      @leesheard2466  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I only removed the balance shaft unit that is 4 bolts holding it on
      Then I removed the square connector block
      Then refitted the balance shaft unit there is no need for more oil as the block is very small
      It all depends on how bad yours is I was lucky and I saw no teeth broken on the engine side
      This is why I just removed the block so it stops the balance shaft from rotation
      I hope this helps

      @@leesheard2466 is there two sections that have a gasket or use sealant? The rearmost area (which is meant to use a sealant and not a manufactured gasket) is leaking on mine. It's high up... My mechanic believes Mitsubishi lied to me in saying it wasn't something they touched or had anything to do with when doing the assembly replacement.
      My mechanic doesn't believe Mitsubishi didn't touch it or cause the leak, and that I need to chase it up with them. My mechanic has looked after the vehicle pre and post warranty repair with Mitsubishi.

      @Τόμας Μαγγάνα the sump dosnt have a gasket it was sealed with sealer I do also have a small oil leak but it isn't from the sump I'm not to bothered about it as its not dripping it's just damp on the engine

      @@leesheard2466 in other words, the "only" way to access the balance shaft is by taking the sump off? Is there anything else that uses sealant, up behind the rear of the sump? I'm trying to find a diagram online

      @Τόμας Μαγγάνα yes boost pipes off and then sump the balance shaft is held on with 4 bolts the small softer metal square falls out of place then I just re fitted the balance shaft without the small square drive I guess u can call it

    Hi Lee sorry to trouble you,I've recently picked up one of these outlander,I did notice the engine a bit noisy but I put it down to cold but when heated it was still noisy if I rev up engine it goes but as soon as idle it's noisy,,, sounds like a chain clatter, could this be your balance part you done,, cheers john

      @john Coady so what u have to do is drain all the oil and take the sump off u will see the little part straight away I put my hand on it and gave it a wiggle saw that it was really lose so I then removed the full balance shaft unit and found that the male end on the unit was really warn so even if I had put the new wear block in place it would still have rattled I will try remember to do a follow up video tomorrow I've been driving it for a year now with this modification and I've had no problems

    For a longevity of the engine sense, disabling the balance shaft operating is not a great idea. You will get excessive wear worth a lot more than the replacements of the thousands of dollars/pounds for this system to be working. They designed it and put it in there at great cost of weight and complexity for a reason.

    • @leesheard2466
      @leesheard2466  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well it's doing just great thanks for your input it now idles at around 700rpm with no more vibration than any other diesel engine I've seen so yes it's definitely worth doing if u don't want to u don't have to 🤘
