God, this show just never gives you easy answers. She did the wrong thing but for the right reasons. People always blame CPS when something horrible happens, and often they are correct, but just as often it’s state legislators who won’t approve enough budget for enough CPS agents. From what we saw on this show, this dad and mom did love the boy, but the dad just snapped, for a short time, but it was enough. God, the actors and writers in this show break your heart.

I feel bad for the pastor. The child was already dead when the parents took him to the church. The body was already soft when the pastor held him. He was initially led to believe he crushed the boy to death when in reality there was nothing possible he could do.
As some who is epileptic, the thought of someone holding me down and praying over me to "expel the demons" is terrifying. I am so glad i live in the modern age and that my family aren't overly zealous/religious.
I also have epilepsy, and Im a fan of history. King Carlos II of Spain. He had horrible epileptic seizures to the point he was nicknamed, "the Bewitched", because people didn't know about the condition.

Forever thankful my Church has members who have had neurodivergent kids, and know how to accommodate them. They absolutely emphasize “He loves ALL of His children” doctrine. Heck, it was the Priest who recommended my parents get me tested for ADHD. And as I got put on medication, they let me run around some spare rooms with various toys and those super cheesy bible-study coloring books. Would eventually try and sit in for service, and nobody would question it when I needed to get up and burn some energy. See, this is the beauty of random comments on TH-cam. Kids are innocent and have a whole life ahead of them, seeing how or why it was ripped away just hits hard and breaks the heart. The Social Worker had also falsified visits to the home about follow up and this added to her distress as she didn't live through the episode. . . . . she said there were more severe cases and too many and she couldn't make it out to the home.

The brain can only withstand up to 6 minutes without oxygen before brain damage occurs. On a child that young, the brain isn't even half-way done developing. There's no chance that the kid would survive after 30 minutes being down. They could likely get the heart to beat, but the kid would be brain dead. Also this is a TV show, the cases might be based on real situations, but that doesn't mean everything in the show has to be 100% true-to-life.
The sad reality is that after a certain amount of time resuscitation isn’t even possible anymore, I believe it’s said that after 20 minutes resuscitation isn’t even possible anymore.
In a way he did though, they had done this before and he assumed the kid was alive while squeezing him in a bear hug despite knowing the child was disabled. He could catch abuse/assault or endangerment charges for what he did to Jamie before he died.

As an ED nurse who participates in code situations at least twice a week the fact that they are saying “no pulse” and no one is doing CPR makes me insane. Does not matter how long he’s been down. You do CPR until time of death is called.
Spoiler Alert! It was actually the foster mother, she smothered him. That's not even the worst of it, the boy wasn't her only victim. He had a foster sister, Lorianne cut her up with a cheese grater. The girl saw the murder, and Lorianne hid her in an insane asylum. Told them that girl was crazy and cut herself. It was quickly discovered that Lorianne took in lots of kids, get rid of them, and not tell the agency so she could keep collecting checks. She was all set to let her husband take the blame.

Not every church is like that. Mine is very accepting of medicine and science. My wife and dog are epileptic. We’ve never thought it was demonic.
