They forget to be the lawyer they need to keep themselves safe when being questioned/interrogated, and instead are the person that is the suspect. Michael Beachs (phenomenal actor) character infects his wife with HIV as a result of his deceit. In it's prime, 'Law & Order SVU' was such a hard hitting show, part of such a ground breaking franchise that has never shyed away from tackling hard hitting issues with such talented actors, writers etc, that has and continues to enthral and entertain so many as its done for decades. Not to mention the iconic opening monologue. Classic.

Not getting married in the first place and having kids and pulling innocent parties into his mess would not have been a death sentence. I understand that be LGBTQ has historically been dangerous for a lot of demographics, but there were a 100 ways he could have handled his romantic life and he chose the one that hurt everyone to the maximum.

Can everyone please remember that this episode is 2 decades old? SVU was big on shining lights on issues that other shows were afraid to bring up and in some cases they fumbled in how they wrote them, or just had to dumb them down for an audience that wasn't familiar with the LGBTQ community.
