As an adopted child this makes me sick. I have high functioning autism and was not an easy child growing up, but my parents never gave up on me. A real parent grows and adapts alongside their child.

I mean, I'd rather some parents give up their kids compared to what they think is an acceptable means of dealing with issues, but yeah wow that lady was messed up.
Lady, there are these things called therapists. Some of them work with children. Some of them specifically adopted children with special needs. Your husband looks like he makes enough money that paying for that shouldn't be an issue. I'll agree it's scummy if you were expecting a baby and they send you an older kid, but this ain't how you deal with that. Anyone planning to adopt please remember: kids are not in the system willingly. They do not want you. They want their birth parents to love them and be able to take care of them. Don't be mad if even kids you raised from babies get a little mad at the world when they get old enough to understand they're only with you because the world isn't perfect.
@@hernamewaslola5267 u do realize that the 'tv series" uses REAL scenarios as plot? this does happen, a lot of ppl go abroad to other countries to adopt children from not so legit organizations and then try to "re-home" the child when they can't handle the child's needs and it is not okay. stop living in LALA land thinking things only happen in tv shows
You hit the nail on the head there. Not to mention how horrible living in foster or some kins of community center is. Kids can be in foster for ages, and sometimes even for life. If they're really lucky they'll get to live with the same person for life. But most likely they'll be thrown around from home to home. Developing a pocket full of issues as well. Not to mention that once children leave the care of their birth parents they are much more likely to be abused. Not to say birth parents don't abuse, or that adopted parents must abuse. But it is statistically more likely. People don't always think of humans as humans.

I know that this happens, I know a family who have adopted 2 Chinese 10yo girls who were adopted by an older couple but then given away because it "took too much time away from our careers" The most disgusting, foul, inhumane, cruel thing you could do to a child who's already been given up.
Why don't people accept the foster kids with all of their hearts. Not for the benefit of the money. As someone that was in the system until I found my forever home.
The husband has a right to be mad. When you adopt a child, you have to be ready to accept the responsibilities of taking care of a child who might have behavioral and emotional issues. You have to be prepared for that. Disgusting that the mom was trying to justify her actions and play the victim.
I completely agree but I also think the adoption agency had fault also because they lied about the kids age. They should have all been open about everything. It was obvious she didn't want that boy and was going along with hot for her husband.
Whenever a child or children are in danger it hits everyone hard especially Voight. You never abandon a child just because they’re having trouble, you get help and adjust you don’t take the easy way out. This woman should be locked up for child endangerment
When you CHOOSE to become a parent, then you are signing up for bad days, misbehavior, and all sorts of other things. As a parent, you need to sit down with your kid and do some problem solving. You don't just give your kid to strangers because your child is acting out. All kids, especially kids who come from other countries where they were in an orphanage, need families with patience, kindness, unconditional love and respect. I'm absolutely disgusted that this happens. CHILDREN ARE HUMAN BEINGS!! Rehome a damn sofa, not an innocent child.
Fr I remember findin out "progams" like that are a real thing in america which is wild, I'm not from america but it makes me wonder what sort of society normalised giving your "problem" kids away enough for those sort of "programs" to become a thing there.
What was so messed up about this episode is that rehoming for children is a real thing. I never knew that until this episode and then did some research to see if it was true. It is. You can REHOME a kid. That’s so scary.
Yes it's ridiculous!! There's a TH-camr, I can't remember her name, who adopted a little boy with disabilities and after using him to get views and subscribers " rehomed" him. Absolutely disgusting.
I'm autistic and my younger brother is more so. Despite having four kids my mom has always done her best to raise us and I think she's done an amazing job. Hearing about parents that give up on their children because it's too difficult for them makes me really uncomfortable.
Adoptions do fall through, but therapy could be tried, and at least give him away through the proper channels, not to criminals. When you adopt a child, especially older ones, you EXPECT issues, no one adopts without knowing there could be issues.
If I was the father I will file for divorce and custody of my twin daughters for the simple fact that if they become too much for her she might just do the same thing again😢😢
Problem there is he’s a businessman who has to travel presumably frequently for work. Custody court is going to look for which parent is available and can provide a stable environment.
Lady was talking like she was dealing with a second-hand vacuum cleaner instead of a living being. She didn't care about Kwan, didn't even try to work with him and try to make him feel safe.
And they wonder why kids just run after being adopted or fostered. When you hear horror stories like re-homing, you'd run too. The adoption agency they came from may have the strictest set of rules but once they're in another country, the re-homing rules are more lax.
As someone who had been adopted, that mom makes me sick. I have high functioning autism, anxiety, and trauma from my own mother and I'm grateful that my biological aunt (someone I consider my actual mom) helped me with therapy.
Safe haven laws also apply for older kids. You know it's legal to leave your kid at a firehouse/hospital, but you can also leave older kids there. Imagine being a kid, not a baby and you parent just drops you off at the hospital and never comes back.
That's not true in New York either. Safe haven laws only apply to newborns not older kids. If you drop an older kid off that is child abandonment and neglect unless you bring them to ACS and state you want to relinquish your rights as a parent.
@@nibbonbon Safe-haven laws are statutes in the United States that decriminalize the leaving of unharmed INFANTS with statutorily designated private persons so that the child becomes a ward of the state. All fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico have enacted such statutes.
If you adopt, you should never “rehome” the child or children you adopted. It doesn’t matter if the orphanage lied to you. When you have a biological kid, you don’t know what kind of problems that child will have. It’s no different from adopted kids except you should expect the adopted child to have trauma. And you work through the trauma with the child. If you can’t help a child or children with trauma then don’t adopt.
There was a similar episode on Law & Order: SVU before this that had Rosanna Arquette as the special guest star. She played a woman who partnered up with her husband by forging documents and having false identities so they could adopt these children that have been “returned” for the purpose of filming and selling CP (I don’t think I need to spell it out). The main child that the detectives were searching for had been given away by his adoptive mother secretly while the father was out of town on a business trip (he did that often) and the place she gave him to only required one parent’s signature I believe. The boy was from a different country and was “difficult” according to the mom and she initially blamed the father for always being gone. Thankfully they found the boy alive and they also found two other girls that were a little bit older. They also found a newborn baby that Rosanna’s character abducted. That newborn baby would eventually become Noah Benson. 🥺 So I really don’t understand how you would only need ONE of the adoptive parents to just give away or “return” the child that you promised to care for and love. *The title of the SVU episode is called, “Wednesday’s Child” for anyone curious!
Sometimes people don't make things clear enough ,I would love to help as much as I could , and something needs to be made clearer ,I would feel like I'm being blind folded with no clear instructions in truth and fiction ,like made up stuff you don't know if you can believe and trust 😢
Such sadness & hand on heart I would not want to be having that heaviness on my heart for those poor precious kid's ,I never understand how people could be so heartless to just have a mind controlled by the money factor only , disgusts me to know of things like this 🫶
The rehoming concept is not unlike surrendering animals to an animal shelter... ... only they're children. I wouldn't even dream of surrendering my dogs let alone, children.
You can tell the father loves the son, blood or not. And even though the father works he does it to maintain his family. She was selfish for a good reason but she did it the wrong way
People who adopt children should be evaluated mentally because you can not give up your child because they are difficult. If you won't give up your blood the same should go for your adopted child. Adopted children will have abandonment issues because they are treated as a commodity.
Omg this rehoming thing is like the story from the TH-cam family who gave their adopted son away. They 100% got him for views and sympathy points but he proved to be "too special needs" for them. This makes me so furious
It is sad how many kids get turned away during an adoption process because the adults cannot or do not think they can handle all of the trauma and psychological issues the kid has. What this woman did was wrong and how she handled it was unforgivable, but the dad should have listened to her more and found alternative ways to help the boy instead of expecting his wife to handle it all on her own. Especially if the boy was acting in a way that posed a danger to other kids in the home which is possible in some cases.
I feel bad for the guy. He held a man at gun point, just so he could get his son back. That's the definition of a good father. Does anyone know what happened to him and his son?
That woman should never be allowed to have children ever again in this universe. You don't just give up an adopted child because you want one that's "easy to control" that's disgusting!
As someone who studies the development of children and have witnessed MANY foreign children who struggle in American homes due to trauma this is a very true reality. I’ve seen food aggression, stealing, hiding, running away, kicking, biting, attacking. And it’s all because of trauma they may not even know why they have it but it becomes wired in their brain from when they are infants. So if you plan to adopt/foster from countries that are known to be third world ie russia, India, Korea etc. you must realize your child will have PTSD and may not even remember why.
When my parents adopted me I was seven I was constantly stealing lying because of what I went through it took them years and years and therapy to help me but they stuck with me through thick and thin you just have to want to be a parent and a change for that child’s life and clearly that’s not what she wanted she was not ready for that position it’s sick
If you adopt a dog that's been abused from a rescue kennel you sign on for its lifetime. The same goes for children but their lifeline is longer. If you can't promise to be with that child for life then buy yourself one of these life-like dolls. When you get bored with it then throw it away. It hasn't feelings and it is perfect for people with no conscience.
👍🏼This is a great episode 👏It has all the fan fave CPD A-List characters... Voight, Atwater, Ruzek, Burgess, Upton Olinsky, Dawson, and Halstead. Man do I miss the good Ol' days of CPD.
Unfortunate this still happens. Pages all over face book "rehoming" kids and giving them new names and ages. They don't even verify who the kids are going to.
If you can't care for a child then you GET HELP. If you're fostering and really just can't handle it, even if it sucks, that child deserves the best care they can get and they go back to the foster system or to different foster parents. You don't just give kids away to randos. Makes me sick
Yeah don’t adopt a child unless you’re capable of dealing with their issues, they’re not a puppy (even that’s a whole thing I can rant about), they’re a person, a living feeling being. They aren’t a fashion accessory you can just toss away.
The adoption should never gone ahead, especially when your wife is not in favour. You both need to be 100% in agreement. Yes, I know, it's only make believe TV but in real life, it could happen.
Rehoming should be illegal! With human-trafficking, kidnapping, and Amber alerts going on a lot these days, people should be looking after children not putting them in harm's way.
I probably would have reacted the same way the dad did if my husband gave either our children away even though they're not adopted but if I had adopt a child and he gave him or her away? Yeah I would probably be just like that guy. I would go nuts
Reminds me of an SVU case where the parents adopted a child from Russia and he was "such a handful" the adoptive mom gave him to a "lovely couple" who turned out to be on the registry for child trafficking/p*rn
No. If your kid is having issues, talk to a doctor, a therapist, or a preacher. You don't sell your kid online like an old couch!! And you CERTAINLY don't do it BEHIND YOUR SPOUSE'S BACK!! I can't believe the amount of times I've had to say this: CHILDREN ARE NOT POKEMON CARDS OR PUPPIES!!! You can't just give them to someone else and expect everything to be fine!!!

@@jet5299 I didn’t say skip work. I think parents should probably get the kinda work that doesn’t require being away from home days at a time on a regular basis. That’s how people get divorced & how things like this happen
Here’s a little advice for people who thought the mom was in the right IF YOU DONT WANT TO ADOPT “DIFFICULT” CHILDREN THEN DONT ADOPT AT ALL THEY ALL HAVE PROBLEMS NOT ONE OF THEM GO THROUGH THE SUSTEM UN SCATHED
For those who cannot afford the network app. The ending was very sad. They never found the missing kids and kwan father was sentenced to 20 years for his crime.
You speak lies. The dad was released with a warning, they found the missing kids, and the big bad guy they were after was arrested and put in open populace (and prisoners there do NOT take kindly to crimes against kids). Cunningham's law at play.
The woman is clearly in the wrong here. The moment she is confronted with her actions she immediately victimises herself and tries to push blame onto the father. Trying to imply that he was gone too much and left her alone with him or something. But you can clearly see that the father cares a lot about his son and would have helped if the mother actually cared and tried. If the mother said “we should get a therapist to help him” I’m 100% confident the father would be like “Yeah no problem I’ll pay for it” He’s both compassionate and a hardworking businessman (yes, both of those can exist). He might not be able to *be there* all the time but he was sure willing to help and care in whatever ways he could. The mother completely failed her family, her son and husband both.
It's a tv show, as such is written with the intention of being compelling. Black and white storytelling makes for boring stories. By trying to be thought provoking they hope it gives you your fill of drama. Hope that helps
@@horsepuncher95 you missed my point. I wasn’t talking about “black & white storytelling” , which btw can make very compelling stories. My point was that what the mother did was objectively bad & like the other guy pointed out this show consistently makes terrible women look sympathetic. You don’t really see that with men & that goes for shows as well.
I'll argue that sometimes you gotta write characters to do bad things. Her reasoning was understandable to an extent when it comes to being worried about her kids but we can still dislike her for how she handled the problem. Humans morality are not black or white but very much grey. But as long as we can disagree with her actions at the end of the day then the show did its job well
The woman is a MONSTER. if your child is being bad, talk to them about it, punish them, ground them, tell your partner, DO ANYTHING BUT THAT. she is horrible. *she didn't have to give him away.*
I know of a wonderful couple years ago who adopted Chinese girls and loved them no matter what. It's the individual parent, not the child. who's at fault if they don't reach out for help or even advice,. The mother here didn't even let her husband know because she knew he'd never allow it. She's setting herself up for a divorce.
I adopted 2 kids with extreme issues, violent, mental and criminal. Both were under 10 when I got them. I fought for their needed care, pulled together a team of friends, relatives, hospitals, mental health care, officers, etc and raised them to adulthood. Body guards were required for me when they tried to kill me but they were like they were cause of extreme abuse in their past. They are now functioning adults and not in prison. They aren't currently speaking to me cause I am disabled and poor now but I feel it was all a success! I ended up raising them on my own though cause my husband walked away and washed his hands of them when it got tough. And that's putting it nicely.. I had to go to human services myself on him.
Everyone else love when everyone else is at the ready they have weapons aimed, but olinsky and voight are so used to the job that olinsky is like a cowboy ready to quickdraw fire and voight has his weapon drawn but still walking like its just another day. God i loved the duo bromance of olinsky and voight, R.I.P Olinsky.
I just love this show and the head police chief and his partners that play with him. I look at the show every Thursday night. Like seeing the sears tower in some of the scenes. 😅❤❤❤❤👍🥰

When you CHOOSE to become a parent, then you are signing up for bad days, misbehavior, and all sorts of other things. As a parent, you need to sit down with your kid and do some problem solving.
That’s not true actually. North Dakota is the state with the longest range and even then babies have to be under a year.
That's not true in New York either. Safe haven laws only apply to newborns not older kids. If you drop an older kid off that is child abandonment and neglect unless you bring them to ACS and state you want to relinquish your rights as a parent.
What are safe haven laws👀
@@nibbonbon Safe-haven laws are statutes in the United States that decriminalize the leaving of unharmed INFANTS with statutorily designated private persons so that the child becomes a ward of the state. All fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico have enacted such statutes.
@@katsarethebest9465 so........ say that again but with simpler words 😅
The father was devastated!!!!
So I really don’t understand how you would only need ONE of the adoptive parents to just give away or “return” the child that you promised to care for and love.
*The title of the SVU episode is called, “Wednesday’s Child” for anyone curious!

... only they're children. I wouldn't even dream of surrendering my dogs let alone, children.
You can tell the father loves the son, blood or not. And even though the father works he does it to maintain his family. She was selfish for a good reason but she did it the wrong way
When it comes to Hank Voight you never want to mess with kids on his watch
People who adopt children should be evaluated mentally because you can not give up your child because they are difficult. If you won't give up your blood the same should go for your adopted child. Adopted children will have abandonment issues because they are treated as a commodity.
Omg this rehoming thing is like the story from the TH-cam family who gave their adopted son away. They 100% got him for views and sympathy points but he proved to be "too special needs" for them. This makes me so furious
The Stauffers, absolutely abominable what they did.
“You’re the mother?!”
“No, I’m the police.”
PFTTTT HAHAHAHAHA
This definitely needs to be made very clearly
When my parents adopted me I was seven I was constantly stealing lying because of what I went through it took them years and years and therapy to help me but they stuck with me through thick and thin you just have to want to be a parent and a change for that child’s life and clearly that’s not what she wanted she was not ready for that position it’s sick
That boy is obviously traumatised and instead of getting her help she GAVE HIM AWAY??? Wtf
I was happy to see that the father wasn’t the bad guy.
SOOO WHAT?
The actor is normally typecast a villain.

Stealing food?? I think that's called child abuse, not feeding your kid.
Why are they trying to make the “mother” seem sympathetic?
