    I tend to make quilts that incorporate scraps and yardage, i am on a tiny budget and have to be frugal but it makes me use my brain to do this😊 just found your channel!

    love it ... great way to use up all those scraps. I also love the idea of doing it little by little, one piece at a time ... I tend to get overwhelmed with a project and this is a great way to create something warm & beautiful one day at a time !!! yee haw 😃

    Great way to use up scraps. Right now I am making string quilts with any size strips that I have and I am sewing them on parchment paper for the base. Scraps make great quilts just like our grandmothers put scraps together.

      How or why sew it to freezer paper? I have a ton of scraps for some kind of string quilt, can you use freezer paper for that?

      All I use here at the quilt shop is cotton fabric but I guess you could use others if you have them. I’ve quilted quilt tops for customers that have all different fabrics in them and they stitch up nicely.

    You could have used those or framing with strips or squares. It looks very thick for a foundation. As long as you get them all one size, you can put anything in there.

    • @sewcharmingquiltshop

      It’s a preference. This is the way I do it. That doesn’t mean it’s the only way. It’s not thick at all. I’ve done ones like this many times.

    • @sarahkinsey5434

      I work at a fabric store and people will buy bolts of muslin for quilt foundations. It's a bit thinner than quilt cotton since it's supposed to be used for mock-ups and things.

    • @sewcharmingquiltshop

      @sarahkinsey5434 yes. I’ve used that too. I’ve also used telephone book pages, newspaper, lots of things. They all work good. I just used what I had in my scraps/ufo pile this time. 😁

    I absolutely love this concept. I do have one question though. It looks like there was a piece near the end where two scraps met together but they weren’t seamed, so there was a raw edge. Did I misunderstand something?

    • @sewcharmingquiltshop

      We can do that. People who come in the shop pick out their scraps. We can put together bags of miscellaneous scraps and put them on the website if you’d like.

  • @rachelburgener819

    Soooo is this what they call foundation piecing?
    If so then if you use paper to sew onto, is that the foundation paper piecing?
    Why not save the white squares to use in a different project?
    Why not just sew the pieces/crumbs together without the base?
    Being newer to quilting, I’ve been a little stumped by this.
    Thanxabunch❤️😀

    • @sewcharmingquiltshop

      Yes foundation paper piecing. I already had the squares cut and chose to use them this way. You can sew with no base but the fabric gives you guide lines. It’s all in your preference how you do it. All of it works.

    • @annablock8037

      I don’t use a base. I just sew them together. It works for me. I’m just careful if I sew on the bias since that stretches and can distort easily.

  • @connieking9873

    I like the idea but it seems more work than if you were to just take your scrap with the straight edge and sew together with another straight edge without the white square you could chain piece pieces then hook those together. Wouldn’t have the extra fabric and bulk. I take piles of fabric sew 2 then 4 , 8 etc until I build up to just over 10”’s then square up and put into a to do box. When that box is full I can put a quilt together. Good source for me to grab a stack if I needed a quilt in a hurry.

    • @sewcharmingquiltshop

      Yes, there are many ways to put tops together. This is just one. I’m loving how this one is turning out. It’s not bulky and it uses up scraps and it’s fun as well. I will use other scraps to make different quilts and try other methods. I love scrappy quilts!

      @@sewcharmingquiltshop scrappy is one of my favorites. I love your blend. Do you color sort or just stuff into a tote after finishing a project. I am thinking I want to try separating out my colors then maybe work on a watercolor. I think that would make a great quilt.

      9:54 So does the light piece at the other end where it overlaps a blue piece. At the end of video, the blue piece has been taken out, and a large piece of the light fabric has replaced it.

      The last piece sewn 7:34 (and show in the trimmed block 9:54) most definitely has a raw edge. This has obviously been corrected 10:22, but no mention of it. Pointing out this correction and how/why to avoid raw edges would have been an excellent teaching point for beginners.
