I usually don’t like making scrap quilt ( I’m a very structured person n want everything uniform ) but this one I love. I’m going to start this today . I have oodles of jelly roll scraps . Perfect ! Thank you
Oh my I seen a quilt like this today online but didn’t know how.. then last night your video came up on my TH-cam…. You explained so well .. going to start tomorrow…. Thanks
I love this idea. Seems like it is perfect for me as it would be my first quilt in 40 years. I have been buying up quilt fabric, shirts, skirts, etc. of 100% cotton for my retirement quilting frenzy. Thanks for the show and tell. I can't wait to get started.
What a great way to bust the scrap stash. And as a bonus for those of us who do not have a lot of time to quilt it is an easy one to pick up and put down as time permits. Thank you for sharing this great quilt design idea!
Boy do I nave 5" scraps and this is a great quilt to use some of them up. I'm like you, I don't care if the fabric goes together, I just love using what ever I have!!! Thanks for sharing.
Try putting them together in baby quilt kits, or i Spy as well, with all the other bits needed if you have them, to just grab and sew when you need one quick. Add a pattern or write out your kit idea, and what you need to add, so you don't have to check everything all over again when you find it after you may have forgotten? 4×42 is enough for a big quilt. Selvedges make great ties for bundles? Do you need cute for a bowl cosy? Hot or cold. Do you have a list of smaller gifts that can be made from small pieces, do you need a gift to self? Like a lap quilt, cushion, sunglasses case, book mark, mug rug/wine glass holder, coaster, phone case, lap top bag, pen case, journal cover, sewing kit, work cushion, with pockets for epp, embroidery or button replacement etc. Bag for bits, lined orphan block pockets? Let your mind wander? Have fun,
Another beautiful creation by you, Penny. I just love the beauty of the different color and patterns of fabric. I think I can do this. Thank you for another great video.
Penny, the quilt will be just magnificent, I too love scrappy. This year I tried to use a lot of my scraps an one in particular was using a lot of my 2 1/2” squares it is beautiful and remembering all the previous quilts the scraps came from was a joy.😊 Have a great week and a lot of fun sewing.
I have a lot of scraps I’ve been planning on using for wheelchair quilts for the local nursing home. This is a great pattern for that project. Easy to put together then tie. Thank you for sharing your pattern!
Great idea for scraps. Could be a leader and ender project too. I have lots of scraps from quilts I have made. Can be a memory quilt for me about quilted projects I have made for others. Easy enough to cut 5 inch or 2.5 by 5 inch scraps after a quilt is done and scraps need managing.
The quilting could be a very loose wavy zigzag in the white and it would be quick to quilt!❤️ I am on a use scraps and buy no more fabric challenge for 2025! Love the pattern!
This week I have been using scrap pieces up for charity quilts, Using my pre cuts and odd blocks for different quilts , so far I've made 5 quilts tops and I will back them with fleece. I like the looks of this one I may have small blocks so I will use those for a baby quilt.
What if you take a printed 5” seam and a white 5” block, right sides together and sew on 2 opposite sides and then cut in half? So you have 2 “blocks” made. Makes sense to me and quicker
Love this scrappy quilt idea Penny! It’s perfect for those stray charm squares and jelly roll strips. Thank you for sharing your pattern. Happy New Year 🎊
Hello Penny great scrap quilt I like the size and how it's put together. Great instructions also. I think it's going to look very nice when it's all finished. Looking forward to seeing it. And your next video. ❤
Try sewing a white to a coloured square down both sides before you cut squares in half. No more lining up fabric pairs to cut first, you can set seams before cutting, but you don't have to. Separate the cut squares into 2 piles aa you cut them then mess up one pile or split and re-stack once. Sew together one from each pile, just make sure they are still different fabrics. Lay aside a few 2 piece units for each row end. Repeat the unmatching with larger sections... cut a few squares in half and add a coloured patch to the ends of your rows. To make sure all ends are different, sew an "odd" coloured strip, to those 2-patch units you laid aside, to make a few 3-patch units. You can turn them around so the first one goes on the end instead, where you have 2 of each cut piece? Or just sew to a white piece and put it somwhere in the row, Or scatter the placement to the centre of a row, or the right end of a smaller strip unit, turning the other half to end it with a colour? Check you have the right numbers, Press seams, then, Add a sashing strip to each row and lay out only when or if you want to. There are no official quilt police, just amateurs, however experiencd they are, so only do things this way if it works for you. After all just keep having fun.
Great tips!! I knew there must be a faster way if you wanted. I've recently been in hosp for a hip replacement & Strep. Today has been a good day, so I'm back in my room. Thanks again!! 😊
What a good way to use up some scraps. I have a large piece of Navy Blue that needs using. I think come January I might try my hand at this. Also, I wonder what it would look like if I alternate rows. Start one row with the plain colour, then the next row with the print. So on (sew on ;) ) and so forth. Thanks for this idea Penny. 😊😊😊👌👌👌🪡🧵🪡🧵
Actually, I debated doing that! If you alternate the rows send me a picture! Either way, submit a picture and I’ll include it in a video so others can see it too! Have fun with it.
great way to use up scraps but if using charms can i suggest where you take a white charm and a print charm sew down each side and cut in middle to make a two patch then assemble the blocks in a row. Just a thought
I think I just found my next scrap project. Thank you for taking the time to make videos to share . . . I learn a lot from watching and get such good ideas. You are much appreciated. Can you tell me about how many five inch squares you used?
I'm so glad you like it! I’ve got 16 in each row so 8 five inch squares per row of the colored scraps. I’ve got 11 rows so far. I think I’ll probably end up with around 18 rows. Not sure yet. That would be 144. That may be too big. I’ll decide as I go. 😁
