Many thanks for posting the recipe. I am definitely going to make this, as so many veggie-burgers are dry and taste like cardboard, and I am not very keen on some of the fake meat offerings. Oats are amazing though, and a good source of slow-release carbohydrate. I was once cooking a pasta sauce for a meal with friends but it was much too watery, so in desperation I sprinkled a couple of handfuls of porridge oats into the mix which worked brilliantly at soaking up the excess liquid. Whilst we were eating it, one of the girls said "David, I thought you were Vegan?". I said "I am." So she said well why have you put chicken-mince in the sauce?" She was totally amazed when I told her that it was really porridge oats.
Wow! I never make veggie burgers because they seem like too much work for too little reward, but these seem super doable and not expensive or complicated, and even look like something I'd make for the meat eaters in my family and they'd enjoy. Yes, please show us meatballs using this method. Thanks for a clear and easy-to-follow video, and for using everyday, affordable ingredients.
You are doing a great job for the society❤️ I was a hard core non vegetarian till I visited a farm and witnessed the horror of the dairy industry. The cow is inseminated painfully every 6 months so that calf is born. The calves are taken away immediately without a single drop of milk. The male calves are transported to the slaughterhouse to be killed on the very day. This process continues for some years till the cow is completely exhausted and later sold for meat. That’s the milk we consume. I literally had sleepless nights after watching the cows, their udders become so big they can’t even move. And they run to save their babies from going to the slaughterhouse. Thank you for these recepies so that people can choose compassion in their plate instead of pain.
That is horrible. I always think of slavery when I hear how cows and chickens are treated. Especially cows because they have feelings and love their families.
This is why, if a person wants to eat meat and dairy, they need to buy from farms that do not have mass productions - they are the ones killing the environment as well. Grass fed meat and dairy from a humane farm is the way to go. I eat yogurt on occasion, but it must be grass fed or I won't eat it.
@@kelliea5729 Doesn’t matter if it’s a grass fed or not 😞a cow has to be pregnant multiple times a year and the calves are KILLED in the dairy industry.
It is horrible indeed, I’m glad you got to see for yourself. And let’s not forget all those other innocent animals that are treated like products every day. We can do better and enjoy this great meatless burger in the process
Tried it and they are yummy! Had a heck of a time getting them to cook all the way through, though. Turns out you can’t do the thing you can with meat, where you add water to the pan and cover it… that just makes the burgers soggy! I got the hang of it by my third batch, though. I used a food processor instead of a grater. And I added barley grass powder for a more complete protein. Overall, very happy with this recipe! And my kids were skeptical, but they actually liked the burgers too. This will be much cheaper than meat. So it’s a win.
After 4 years of perfecting my veggie pattie Ive found a base of wildrice, oats, and tofu holds best, is never mushy, and has the best texture. Another thing is adding tons of spice and chipotle sauce.

I made the black bean veggie burger today for dinner and it was so delicious. It really filled me up and was so easy to make. I have so much left over. Do they freeze well? I sure hope so. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe.
I made this day before yesterday let it sit in the refrigerator 24 hours… very flavorful and I love the crunchy bits on the outside I added sweet yellow red and orange peppers I used spelt flakes and whole wheat spelt flour…💣
Now about to make my third batch for the month....once your sense of taste adjusts to plantbased eating this is really the best plant based burger I have ever made or eaten...the thinner you can make it the crispier it is...I also added a little curry and some salt free powdered seasoning...I am from the Caribbean so flavor is our thing and even my husband who likes meat actually likes these.. I also used breadcrumbs instead of flour and it held up okay...not firm but okay.

Now good evening I cook and paint channel, first and fore most I want to thank you for your simplistic video, it was very easy to follow, and I thoroughly enjoyed the content. Moreover, I was surprised that celery could taste so good in a burger 🍔 🍔, and thank you profusely for this tip. Also, I want to let you know, that I hopefully will try to make these burgers again with oaks and maybe 🤔 🤔 beans too, however I had a need to use up some of my birthday rice and used this instead of the oaks as well as gluten free flour a bit following your instructions of two cups of flours, and it came out absolutely delicious, well the first batch I used spring onions as a vegetable as I had no onions, so I used the vegetables I had, and it was amazing, and more importantly you are right, leaving it in the fridge to settle the dough, gives the dough time to marinade with all the spices and seasonings 🧂 🧂 as well as I found that when I cooked my first batch today 2nd October 2021, it was nice a firm as burgers 🍔 🍔 should be, so thank you for these tips, this gesture is much appreciated. Lastly, I am now making my last batch as I had a lot of rice left over from august 2021, so I will definitely be leaving the dough to set overnight this time round and will let you know how this process has gone for me shortly.
i have a very similar mixture with lentils(red or black, which i fry and cook before) , but i add organic, whole grains (mostly freekeh and spelt), which will provide a really nice bite and some Psylium husks to get the patty more chewy. Kind of a universal mix and its open for more additions like eggs, extra oil/fat, Pumpkin,, olives &c to change the consistency and taste in a subtle way - really everything goes, as long as you keep the base somewhat coherent. The slow cook on low temp. is a nice trick though and i will try that out. Overall: I love this kind of cooking. No meat, cheap, healthy, fidgeable for prep and it is reeeally easy to make.
Thank you for this valuable feedback. Your mixture sounds like the answer to many allergies and intolerances to oats-a common subject that comes up often in this feed.
You could actually tear the strings out of the celery before you even start. I read it in a short story in the 3th grade. I remember reading a short story from an American girl‘s perspective about a Japanese family they once entertained for dinner during WWII and when they got to the celery they started ripping out the strings before they ate it. lol I don’t actually know if my friends in Japan do this… I actually haven’t thought to ask until today. 😅 But I’ve often done it since because it’s so satisfying and leaves the celery perfectly crunchy. 😍 No strings attached. I wonder if anyone else from that one third grade class in Iowa tried it. Such a Hey Arnold! grade. You should try it sometime. According to the short story from long ago, the Japanese have been onto something lol.
I have to make these burgers! They look so good! I am not a vegetarian but I have cut back on my meat intake. Instead of buying the veggie patties I want to do this recipe.
I'm the same. Just got ripped off by paying 4 Euros for two frozen veggie burgers in supermarket, they were ok but nothing special and it won't happen again. We know what is in these home brew burgers, no chemicals or additives, they look super easy and tasty and economical too. I shall make a batch of them but use a food processor to do the vegetable grating.
I made a half recipe of this and it was really very good. I used the grater disk on my food processor which is much faster that the box grater. It probably took me 10 minutes to make the mix to put in the fridge, not counting time grabbing all the ingredients from the cabinets. I used some liquid smoke as well. I froze half the batch for a week and was looking forward to eating them, but holy cow they were terrible!! I didn’t cook them first, just made patties and put them in the freezer. I want to know the trick everybody else seems to know LOL. It’s definitely not going to stop me from making them again, they are really quick and very easy to change around to suit your own taste.
I never add liquid smoke. Usually they will have a bitter mealy taste if they are not cooked long enough-15 minutes on each side with the heat low enough so they won’t burn. Hope they turn out better next time!
@@ICookAndPaint the ones I ate from the fresh batch were great! I re-heated one the next day for breakfast, still delicious. I only put a few drops of smoke to punch up the smoked paprika. Definitely cooked them long enough. Any freezing tips, maybe that’s the problem? I’m making more this week because they are so tasty and cheap.
I made this veggie burger and it turned out so flavorful. I will cook it a little longer when I warm it up the next day. I was so excited for my first one. 😊 thank u, thank u.
I am currently munching on the best veggie burger I have ever made! Although I had to muddle a bit with a couple of ingredients (like old-fashioned oats instead of quick and white flour instead of wholewheat) due to what I had on hand, the results are phenomenal. Will make this recipe again and again! By the way, instead of adding a little water, I used the liquid from the can of beans; seemed a shame to waste that extra bit of flavor. 🌞 Editing to add a little update because I read all the posts on this video and so many of them had ideas that I thought were really good, so I want to share my results. I froze the burgers un-cooked--when I defrosted and cooked one yesterday, it was just fine. I don't have a microwave, so it didn't make sense to pre-cook to re-heat. On the defrosted burger I didn't use the suggested frying method because the weather is so hot right now that it didn't make sense to keep a frying pan on the stove for half an hour and thus heat up the kitchen. Instead, I chose to use my Dash Mini toaster oven which spreads a lot less heat. I spread a little oil on the toaster pan and a little more oil on top of the burger itself. I cooked the burger in 5 minute cycles, flipping each side twice, for a total of 20 minutes. The burger came out perfect--slightly crispy and browned, warm and tasty on the inside. So good! One problem I noticed when frying the first burger as directed in the recipe was that it absorbed all the oil in the pan, and I didn't like that. Cooking the second burger in the Dash, I used maybe 10% of the original amount of oil and, as excellent as the first burger was, the second was even better. That's how I'll be cooking them from here on. Thanks for this excellent recipe!
Did you have to change anything in order to use regular oats instead of quick-cooking? Because I have lots of old-fashioned regular oats in my pantry and would love to use them instead of buying the quick-cooking kind.
Excellent recipe! the best I've tried! I'm enjoying making these veggie burgers that hold together BETTER THAN GROUND BEEF, aren't mushy and have a perfect crunchy texture. Using the base recipe, I am adding different ingredients to each burger because I like the variety. The last one I made had curry and onion powder and was fantastic! I'm neither vegetarian nor vegan, but am trying to eat less meat and will be using this recipe regularly now that I've discovered it. For my stovetop and patty size, I reduced the cooking time by about half for perfect results. Thanks for posting!
Definitely going to give this a try I like the ease of preparation the low list of ingredients and we're always looking to do a little better with our meat intake as far as keeping it low

I said "I am." So she said well why have you put chicken-mince in the sauce?"
She was totally amazed when I told her that it was really porridge oats.
A suggestion is to incorporate coconut flour to the recipe.. it holds moisture very well and will make the burger more juicy.
Nice thanks!
I made these today and they turned out great! The texture was amazing and they were very flavorful. Thanks for a great recipe. This is a keeper!
That’s so wonderful! I am really happy you enjoyed them-thank you for letting me know they turned out so well. Enjoy :)
@@ICookAndPaint I made another batch tonight. We are having a guest tomorrow and I think she'll be impressed. Thanks again!
Thanks so much, I will make a video soon :)
Wow…thank u for this story.
I made these last night. Sub-ed chickpeas and added mushrooms; placed them on sourdough bread as I had no buns. Very good! Thanks for the recipe!
Wow sounds great! You’re so welcome :)
I just made these today and they are delicious! Thank you for a great recipe that is tasty and economical, with no strange ingredients or flavors.
Glad you like them!
I am so happy you and your kids liked them! Cooking them all the way is a challenge, hence the low and slow cooking :)
This veggie burger was everything you said it would be and then some. So freakin good!!!!! This will be my go to veggie burger
So glad, thank you
Yes I would love to see more things to make with this recipe ☺️
Soon for sure :)
Like sausages maybe?
After 4 years of perfecting my veggie pattie Ive found a base of wildrice, oats, and tofu holds best, is never mushy, and has the best texture. Another thing is adding tons of spice and chipotle sauce.
Please give your recipe
How much tofu do you use?
I’d like to have your recipe. Thanks.

These burgers are seriously good, and they're fun to make too. I had given up on a good veggie burger because, like you say, they're all mushy. But this recipe changed my mind. Thanks very much!
Yes, we all love a good burger even without meat. Thanks so much for this recipe and technique.
My pleasure
I made these today. Really good! I followed his instructions exactly and they did not fall apart. Part of the reason I think is that I took pains in shaping them. After I put all the condiments on my burger, I could not tell that it wasn't a real hamburger! Thank you so much for the recipe.
You’re very welcome! So glad you enjoyed them :)
I love to incorporate good quality dates in my vegan meats, it’s a flavorful ingredient. Great job and thanks for sharing!
Datos? Arent full of sugar?
Yes, they do have natural sugar but are loaded with fiber, potassium, b vitamins, iron and flavor! If you get fresh ones and eat them as is, sometimes they taste like caramel and vanilla!
@@danthemansmith6095 it has to be limited, after the heat the sugar wont be so natural..and your level of it pick and affect People with any kind of predisbetes.
@@josearce4436 Well you have to tailor a diet specifically for your condition, I just told people what I like to add to my vegan meats. I added garlic, finely chopped. With the oats I finely blended in blender. Came out really well. Lovely burger.
So glad, thanks!
I just bumped into your veggie burger recipe and can’t wait to try it. I also love the way you explain things and are just really seem nice. Yes I would like to see more options with this recipe. Thank you

You are really one of my favorite youtubers! I cant wait to give this recipe a try and I would LOVE if you made a meatless meatloaf video!!
Thank you 🙏 I will :)
I eat beef almost everyday but I have to say I’m going to try making this just to see how it turns out!
You will like them even if you like beef burgers :)
Can’t wait to try these burgers out. To me, it makes sense to browned each side and then bake it in the oven for about 20 minutes. Thanks for sharing . Happy healthy eating.🥒🥗😋
That's what I do now. Saves time and less oil and come out perfectly.
At what temperature do you bake them?

For sure! :)
The texture looks absolutely amazing! I prepared these and added a bit of Marmite to the mixture to give it a little bit more Umami. Can't wait to try it out tomorrow.
I absolutely loved it! Never tried making veggie burgers with a mirepoix and this made a huge difference.
Vegemite is the vegan version of marmite
Just made these for my me and my kids. My fussy 14 yr old says they are better than the shop-brought veggi burgers we normally eat. I must agree they are awesome. Really easy to make and no Ultra Processed Food in sight. Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou
Wow that’s super, thanks so much!
Thank you sooooo much for not putting eggs in your burger! I’ve been looking for a vegan black bean burger but I just keep getting a vegan-ish black bean.
I know what you mean, precisely why I created thus recipe without eggs. Thank you for the nice feedback :)
I agree. Eggs are fine in their place but not for burger glue.
I've been looking for a vegan version of stuffed cabbage. This looks like a nice filling. Maybe add rice like the traditional version.
Ooh, that’s a great idea!!
Thank you for that recipe. It really looks delicious...and thank you for writing the ingredients below. Wish other people would do the same. I going to try it..😊
So glad you think so, thank you :)
I’m trying to add more vegan/vegetarian dishes to my lifestyle. This looks really straightforward and your voiceovers makes me think it will be yummy. I’m going to stop by the grocery store this week and try this. Thank you! 😊
Yay! Thank you!
I'm thinking mushroom powder would work in place of the mushroom. I've made veggie burgers with cooked grated beets in the mix that add a nice red meat color. Eggs or flax egg make good binders without flour. Oats and oat flour work well too.
The beets are a good idea to make it meatier looking. 🙂👍
Really good! Made these for my wife and kids, and they all loved them. Followed the recipe exactly. Will definitely be making again.
So glad you and your family enjoyed them. Thank you for the kind feedback! :)
Great title exactly what I was looking for. We need vegan recipes from regular stores
Hope you enjoy!
Watched over a dozen veggie burger recipes, this is the first one that shows a really solid looking burger that doesn't smash down when you bite into it. Definitely going to give it a try! Thanks for the posting!

I made this day before yesterday let it sit in the refrigerator 24 hours… very flavorful and I love the crunchy bits on the outside I added sweet yellow red and orange peppers I used spelt flakes and whole wheat spelt flour…💣
This looks like an excellent vegan burger. Definitely going to give it a go as it'll work out so much cheaper than store bought. Thanks

So happy, thank you :)
I am so glad you and your husband enjoyed! Happy Cooking! :)

Gosh that was maybe the best burger I've ever had. I made my own buns too.

Your veggie crumbles were the bomb!! I make it all the time ...it has so much flavor. I bet your burger is going to b just as good.

Welcome!!
I encourage all to try this. Get veggie/bean burger experience. If you find your pantry has very little supplies other than beans you will know what to do with it! AND I choose to use red kidney beans. The color is already more meat like. THANKS FOR THE GREAT RECIPE. It was a GRATE experience!
Thank you lol!
Definitely giving this one a try! Looks so good and for real.
Can’t wait to make these awesome healthy veggie burgers this week for my family and friends! Thank you for sharing!
Better late than never in this case. The vegan burger got me - it's the first time I have visited your channel. This looks like a great recipe. The grated mirepoix looks inspired and I will definitely add some mushrooms. Thanks for posting 👍🏻😊
I fry onion, mushrooms and walnuts in pan and add seasoning. After cooling I add some beans, breadgrumbs and egg and make my veganburgers. Of course one egg but it's so healthy I add it to the mix. But I will try your version soon. Thanks for that
Your burger is vegetarian, not vegan. Vegetarians don't eat meat, vegans don't eat any animal product like honey or eggs
Overall:
I love this kind of cooking.
Yes, you can get the string off easily with a vegetable peeler! Works great.
Looks delicious. I will probably add some sliced black olives. But I will definitely try this. Thanks!😊
I have to make these burgers! They look so good! I am not a vegetarian but I have cut back on my meat intake. Instead of buying the veggie patties I want to do this recipe.
Thus is perfect then…enjoy! :)
Anxious to try it as a meatloaf! Thanks
My pleasure!
The best homemade veggie burger recipe I’ve ever tried. None of the clove of garlic he grated made it into that mirepoix though.
Thank you so much :)
Such a great video. I can do it! It's simple and you made me feel that on a super budget I can still make a great burger. Thank you!
You’re welcome, I’m so happy you found it :)
Editing to add a little update because I read all the posts on this video and so many of them had ideas that I thought were really good, so I want to share my results.
Sounds great, glad you enjoyed!
Have you tried cooking it in an air fryer 🤔
@@white966 I do not own an air fryer but maybe one day.
Great info
