Hey I wanted to give you a tip after seeing the video: you pulsend the beans too much and balanced it out by making the patties very thin. I tried it a gazillion times and here is the best way. Smash the chick peas before pulsing with a fork. Then mix everything together. Then pulse in smaller quantities so you don’t smash the beans so much. Black beans become really mushy. Add tapioka starch as needed as well as fresh rosemary and parsley. Now you can form thicker patties. Before putting the patties in the pan put a bit of starch or buckwheat flour on both sides. After frying them on both side for a bit put them in the oven on highest temperature for 10 to 15 minutes to cook through better. The result should be a well textured pattie. Really important: pat the legumes dry. I mean really dry. Can not state enough how important that is. This should circumvent the issue of having mushy beans through pulsing too often because most blenders are not big enough. Also sth you can do is pulse everything separately an mix with hands without squeezing.
Thanks for the tips, my food processor is older than my nieces and I had a hard time blending food there, blending the veggies separately and mixing them with hands sounds like a good alternative.

There are SO many things you can cook that are good and have nothing to do with meat. A good starting point is things like "cucina povera" - the traditional "poor person's cooking" where it's not that they didn't eat meat, they just didn't have it available for every meal. Loads of traditional pastas and risottos had no meat. Then there's things like the middle-eastern falafel, of which this burger is really a descendant.
@gumbo7215 omg so you can't like something without having an addiction? Also she didn't cite a particular flavor she's "addicted" to, she just wants any taste as long as it is good. How toxic you are!
The beans and lentils and mushrooms in Chef Lee's video were very dry. He also lightly pulsed the mixture so that it wasn't mushy. I think that it would give you a firmer less mushy burger. He also baked the burger after lightly frying it.
Thanks to you and what you've been making, I've managed to cut meat out of most of my lunches and two to three family dinners a week. We love meat, but we also love the planet. So compromises have to be made. Thank you so much for having taught me all of this stuff.
I've found now that even eating food that tastes like meat makes me want to vomit. Like, I know it's not the decaying flesh of a slaughtered, innocent living being, but it sure tastes like it minus the murder.
@@hosendalikento370 thats probably the most retarded thing ive ever read, decaying flesh? Who tf eats decomposing meat. Animals eat each other, its in our DNA. Sad to see how this society has changed
Blood_ RL on a technical level meat would start decaying as soon as it’s removed from the animal, but considering its refrigerated and otherwise preserved to slow down the process as much as possible that doesn’t really mean anything. I for one am glad that society allows us the option to change instead of being wild animals that live on instinct.
@@hosendalikento370 I'm far from vegan or even vegetarian. Meat is absolutely delicious. I'm a hunter and fisher. I'm just doing what I can to reduce the amount of beef I consume. The industrial growing of cattle for beef isn't good on our planet. If it wasn't an impact then I probably wouldn't be changing my diet at all.
So i just made this recipe, the only thing i was missing was the marmite otherwise i did exactly like in the video. Instead of marmite i used a mix of tomato paste, nutritional yeast and soy sauce as someone suggested in my comment on the "carrot ground beef" video... It was my first time ever using liquid smoke (and the very last one too, the rest of the bottle went down the drain) and I found it to be way too overpowering and it ruined the burgers for me BUT i will try again because I'm sure this recipe is really good without the liquid smoke... maybe I'll put a splash of BBQ sauce instead of liquid smoke or a mix of spices (maybe curry/turmeric/garam masala/...)
I take Crestor and from what I can find out is Crestor blocks an enzyme in the series of reactions that’s makes cholesterol from carbohydrates which comes from plants and is made of many sugars
Wow. that burger look DELICIOUS!!! I love your channel. I'll be making my own, instead of buying Beyond Beef patties. I like cooking my own vegetarian and vegan meals because I know what is in my food.
I did my own version of those burgers and they're great! I make a bunch and freeze them for the fam. I do add a little anchovy free Worcestershire sauce and it's excellent!
I'm sure I commented on this sometime ago but I'm watching it again like I do all of your videos when I am about to make something. Your reaction after eating that burger was life giving lol
Thank you. This looks like a wonderful recipe and it looks like the texture is nice and flavor sounds good. I use a lot of spices. I've made lots of different versions of lentils. I start from dried and I have about 5 different types of lentils that I use. I've made fantastic ones from black beans. There's Falafel, that has been around in the east forever. You can make patties out of any beans, I start from scratch with dried beans. You can add minced or shredded carrots, bell pepper, beets, anything you want, but of course I always always saute a lot of onions and garlic and often mushrooms. I never use processed anything, always from scratch. I've not eaten any animal based anything since 1971! It's not difficult. The trick is to stop trying to imitate meat. The idea is to have a tasty hot pattie, not to make it taste like anything else. I bake them and I fry them. Lots of options.

Followed recipe exactly and took extra steps to remove all moisture from ingredients, and made the patties thin, but the texture was just pure moosh. The flavor was good and it held together fine in frying, but texture was way too mooshy to be enjoyable as a burger. As I ate it the patty began to lose form and started coming out of the bun. I still have a lot of mix left over but am hesitant to use it without alteration. Any suggestions on the best way to firm up the mix so the patties are less mushy and give more resistance when biting into them?
Right, so, this didn't work for me. Ended up with refried bean mix with oats added in. What to do? I added diced onions, cumin, oregano, cinnamon, and a couple cups of TVP, a bit of oil, and sauteed it like ground beef for tacos. Had no idea I'd stumble upon a recipe for that!
I made it for my vegan daughter and they are awesome. Thanks I am not vegan and made a couple for myself and Woe, they are so much better than the garbage they buy in the pkg. I forgot the tapioca starch, not sure if it made a difference. Was it for binding? I also didn't have any raw beets so I added pickled beets and that was good to. I also added lots of salt, pepper, garlic salt and seasing salt and next time to moisten I will add some bbq sauce, that livens up my regular burgers to. Peace to you Jason

That is so awesome. Let it be known, I've been to Burger King for the Impossible Whopper at least three times already, and I still can't believe that it is completely meatless. Now just like you, I am no means a vegan, I eat meat. And people who are vegan are mostly consuming vegan for health reasons, and not so much as the Health and Welfare of animals. People should not be bullied because what they consume as a person. And when they judge one's masculinity by what they eat, and what they don't eat, being healthy and eating in moderation is not a determination of ones masculinity, rather it is making responsible choices in life, especially with one puts in their body. Kudos.
Not true. A vegetarian is a person who chooses a specific diet, and most still do it for the ethical reasons. The health benifits are just an added bonus! Now. Being VEGAN is a way of life. It means not consuming, using or deriving benefit from ANYTHING that’s harmed a living creature. As a vegan, every single item I ingest, own and use or purchase, are from companies that do not do any animal testing, contain no animal products or byproducts, including the pigment from beetle shells, (also mica because it is mined used child labor) I spend my time making sure the things I do everyday, to the most extreme extent, will not contribute to the suffering, pain, fear, terror and torture of the innocent creations on God’s beautiful earth. It is a struggle but it is so rewarding. This includes everything. My clothing and accessories. Shoes. Purses. Toiletries. Makeup. Food. Furniture. On and on. I also research the ethical standing on companies I purchase from.

I’ve tried making this but like all of my other black bean burgers, the patties were mush and fell apart. I followed everything to a T as well. Thoughts?
I made this tonight. It was really delicious. I couldn’t find canned lentils, so I substituted canned pigeon peas. I also had to transfer to a food processor, as my blended couldn’t handle the thick mixture. I think the secret, like you said, is to make them thin, smash style. The burgers crisp really nicely, and as a stack with cheddar cheese and condiments, they are really, really good.

I followed this recipe and couldn't get them to bind.
@gumbo7215that’s the complete opposite of what they said 😂
The beans and lentils and mushrooms in Chef Lee's video were very dry. He also lightly pulsed the mixture so that it wasn't mushy. I think that it would give you a firmer less mushy burger. He also baked the burger after lightly frying it.
you know its dAAAAMn good if you gotta do the kitchen dance like that. lol

フライドチキン王 I could tell you aren’t vegan just from your username. :)
Its sooo good Connie!!! Thank you, let me know what you think when you try it!!

I did my own version of those burgers and they're great! I make a bunch and freeze them for the fam. I do add a little anchovy free Worcestershire sauce and it's excellent!
Those are vegan . .. so his recipe is perfect if you want 100 plant based
I'm sure I commented on this sometime ago but I'm watching it again like I do all of your videos when I am about to make something.
Hey Stache, ma man, will you ever do a vegan reuben meat sandwich ? im dying to see one on here

Please make an actual paper cookbook with all your recipes and at the bottom of each include the URL or Name of the corresponding video. Also. Please make a copycat Just Ranch, if you look at the "Just" Facebook page they keep dragging on about Ranch and there are a TON of people that want this.

I am from India. Just came here to say thank you. 🙏🥀
I made that recipe several times since I watched that video. It's the best veggie burger you can make at home if you're looking for something 'meaty'. And it's freaking healthy (the pattie at least). 100% recommended.
I've watched your vids for awhile and finally subscribed today. Its great to see such enthusiasm!! I have been back and forth with my diet over the past few years. I'm excited to see so many plant based recipes that are simple and fun to create. Appreciate your channel.
I so love how you enjoy your food. It's so nice to see people love plant food :)
There should be more chefs like you, you're so creative and think outside the box

I made it for my vegan daughter and they are awesome.
Thanks
I am not vegan and made a couple for myself and Woe, they are so much better than the garbage they buy in the pkg.
Peace to you

I made this minus the beets (no one else wanted beets), portabella (forgot lol), a very small amount of liquid smoke, and no marmite (don't have). Cooks very well, taste as good as you season it!
Made this tonight and it came out great, definitely a keeper. Btw marmite is sold at World Market for anyone looking. That was the only place around I could get it.

I tried your recipe and totally loved it! Thanks from India!

Great job.. I'm not a vegan, but I'm moving towards that life style. I love your video and these are helpful in moving forward.
I'm not even vegan but I want one definitely looks delicious 😋😋😋
I made this tonight. It was really delicious. I couldn’t find canned lentils, so I substituted canned pigeon peas. I also had to transfer to a food processor, as my blended couldn’t handle the thick mixture. I think the secret, like you said, is to make them thin, smash style. The burgers crisp really nicely, and as a stack with cheddar cheese and condiments, they are really, really good.
Hi, I hope you respond to this because this is the first recipe that I’m hoping you try to improve because the taste is beyond (no pun intended) amazing. I made made this recipe yesterday and found the finished product too moist, didn’t brown well in pan with oil but man the taste! I’m going to play around with it but I think your knowledge of ingredients is much better than mine. I am a foodie and I’m always trying new recipes and you are my go to Wizard.
I followed this recipe and couldn't get them to bind. So, instead of throwing this away, I used a packet of unflavored gelatin that I put in a little hot water and mixed it in and finally got them to bind well. I had a can of chipolte peppers and forgot all about using them as a sauce. Well done as usual. I loved this recipe, it didn't have too many steps.
That burger looks like it'd be amazing smashed and made really crispy on the edges. I'd throw on caramelized onions, mayo, and Swiss cheese and make a really unhealthy mushroom Swiss!
MMMMMM yeah it was crazy good! The thinner you get it the better honestly... I thought about doing some onions and mushrooms to top it but I didnt want to take away from what was already happening in the video... It would have been good though for sure! ha
