@@GIBBO4182 no I think that would make it taste bad, leave the shit alone and stick to the black beans, in fact you should probably quit using shit altogether in your food........
This is too much prep time. Just pan fry a portobello cap until med-soft. Then in same pan, the patty then put em togeth on whole wheat bread toasted or not. Add tomato, raw onion, lettuce and/or cheese. Yum.
I do this kind of cooking a lot, and my general advice is: use tapioca-starch instead of flour, it will become a much more "cheesy" kind of crust. This gives what I name the "chicken mcnuggets" mouthfeel. Also: Experiment not only with mushrooms and beans, but also do beans and quinoa, beans and tofu, mushrooms and tofu and so on, this all makes nice patties which you can also eat in wraps, burritos, as a side to salads and potatoes and what not. This kind of "mix-fiber-starch-and-protein-into-a-patty" is very versatile and Tapioca starch gives nice chewy crusts. Pro-Tip: get some methylcellulose. I know it sounds disgusting, but it is really nothing more than harmless fiber with a weird name. It will make binding anything together much easier, you can skip the egg, and the flour and the three-times-mixing, and maybe grinding some parmesan, and then the ratios are not right, ah its a nightmare. Just add a spoon of MC, knead for a moment, if it feels sticky, it is sticky and will withstand any cooking in the pan, not fall apart, it just works. I cannot overestimate enough how much my cooking went easier, when I researched on MC, found that it was harmless, and it has become a staple in my kitchen ever since. So, next tip: Fry on low heat, but longer. It will not stick, it will not burn, it will just develop a nice crust on the outside. If you do it too long, well it gets a little darker but it takes a looong time from right to burnt piece of coal, which has ruined many dishes when I was using higher heat (I was doing some cutting while waiting, and forgot about my sizzling pan). Maillard reactions start at 130C (which you easily reach with low heat, as you dont have to heat a whole bucket of oil like in deep frying), so your crust quickly evaporates water, and than faces the oil dry, ie. the full oil temperature. And this rises quite high even on low heat. And at 180 degree or so, stuff gets bad real quickly, so just have it "in the safe zone" at a low heat. Just plan on cutting stuff like salad, tomatoes and what not while waiting for the patties. Last tip: use some soy-sauce/msg and nurtitional yeast. It makes a much richer and satisfying. You get a satisfying, chewy, crusty piece of goodness. It does not taste like meat, but it tickles all the buttons that meat does. Yes, thats about it, you will have many nice meals that dont take forever to make in the future, making these kind of patties has become a weekday-thing for me since you can make it really fast. Especially the MC thing gets me rid of having to do the egg-cleaning, the many jars of flour and starch and oats and what not, oh boy it is so much faster making this kind of stuff with MC. And its vegan, btw.

I actually really like black bean burgers, especially with roasted corn (whole). The pop of the corn gives it a little more juice that you don't really get from the blended bean/veggie mix.
My favorite veggie burger recipe: sunflower seeds (pulverized in a food processor), grated carrots, onions, garlic, optional mushrooms, roasted red and/or green bell peppers, parsley, basil, thyme, paprika, soy sauce, salt, pepper, optional mashed sweet potato, binder(1egg or cornstarch/flour/overcooked brown rice/oats and/or breadcrumbs), garbanzos, but the seeds-to-bean ratio should be at least 60%. Loosely based on the original recipe, from "Nature's Banquet", Living Springs, in Hudson valley,NY. If you use raw sunflower seeds you'll need a bit more salt, soy sauce or shoyu tamari. I have no doubt that this one is delicious. It really does look like a well done burger.

@@davidojeda830 No it is still veggie if you have egg in it - or selected cheese (some insist on vegan) .. Well kept chickens do not cross the line of vegetarians ... if they live a happy life outdoors and are well looked after then they are happy chickens and they WILL lay eggs so these need to be used. And the chickens need to be looked after. Ask me how I know. My wife decided to keep chickens years ago. They are fun, sweet, great eggs but I can tell you they have cost me MUCH more than store bought eggs would have to keep them safe (from foxes and badgers etc) and to feed them. Our chickens have an idilic life they have a nice big safe area to graze and a safe coup - and they get lots of treats. They are pets that lay eggs - so why not make use of the eggs. The alternative is to kill all egg laying chickens in the world and then we don't have to worry about people eating chicken eggs - your call, let us know when the cull should start.

If you wanted to move the burger to something like a Vegan diet, the most restrictive, then you could use a liquid egg substitute and Plant based cheese in the place. It just depends what degree of Vegetarian you want to go. Maybe they were taken into consideration or not. I am not a vegetarian, but did some research for a friend, and myself, awhile back when I had considered going the veggie route. I had been sorta thinking about Lacto-Ovo_Vegetarian again recently, and this reminded me of things. I might end up giving it a whirl for a bit to change up some eating habits and the like. Just hit 40 last year so I have been thinking on a lot of things. LOL.
I have never had a vegie burger of any kind...but if Sam has a recipe for one, I'm in. Guess now all there is to do is make it :)
Same 👌
dont do it.
@@TheOriginalArchie why not?
We need a Sam video on how to make easy tortillas.
I'm not vegan, but this looks completely amazing! I need to try this!! Thanks for the recipe :)
That burger isn't vegan, either.
It got egg and butter in it. Thus, not vegan
I just got diagnosed with severe gout thanks for your recipe its helped a meat lover start to transition to more of a plant based
Hey Sam, I've tried these burgers twice now and they're delicious! The only issue I have is that mine fall apart after biting through the panko crust. Any tips or pitfalls to look out for?
Have you tried the new paper-based burger from Wendy's? The Paper is a hundred percent virgin pine from Oregon. No artificial ingredients. Real paper. Taste just like meat!
LOVE veggie burgers, looks incredible
고소하고 아주 맛있을것 같아요!!
판타스틱한 맛을 저도 느껴보고 싶네요!!
😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
About damn time guys. Good job
I tried subbing half of the black beans with red beans, the result was so good, even my carnivore self thought it was great.
For best results, sweaten with corn.
Made my stomach gleek with this one! Gonna try this one! I make a bunch of your recipes on a rotation!
My stomach was glorking 🙂
The best veggie burger in the world is commonly called a Bun Kebab. They serve millions of them in Pakistan and India, mostly around ramadan. There are Dal and Potato varieties, but the best ones are like a giant stuffed tater tot. Put Soy Sauce and Carmelized onions on it and I'd eat it no matter what.
I believe those are red kidney beans, not black beans. Just saying.
I really enjoyed this video AND the background commentary😂 Everything was authentic from the front to end from the cooking to the people in it❤
love the recipe- gonna try it. But, love the Panerai even more!!
I got my wife to watch this video with me. She rolled her eyes and I laughed my butt off when you whipped your mouth with a roll of paper towels !!! I do believe we’re going to try your spin on a veggie burger though. I have gout and she simple doesn’t like beef , hmmm what a perfect match we are ! Thank you for the recipe! , Jim
You are one of the only people I would trust if you said this was 👍 good.
I am a vegetarian. I love this video. Can I ask if the patties can be made ahead of time and then put them in the freezer to be cooked the day after? Will it change the texture or flavour?
Now, im not a vegetarian in the slightest, but what’s the take on the addition of the eggs to the recipe mean for those who are? Love your work Team Sam, keep crushin it
vegetarians usually will eat eggs and dairy, they are lacto/ovo vegetarians. Vegan do not eat any animal products. They would have to use an egg substitute and eliminate the butter to make this vegan.
Veggies eat eggs. Vegans don't.
@@davidojeda830 yes it is.
You're thinking Vegan not Vegetarian
That been liquid is called aquafaba (No, it isn't just from chickpeas), which holds a lot of nutrition. Save it aside and add it back in place of water or stock. Why waste it? You didn't need the egg either.
From a real vegetarian, I'd never use canned beans. Soak your dry beans the night before and cook them al dente. Also the amount of mushrooms should be greater. Also you can make even better burgers by experimenting with other types of mushrooms like trumpet, oyster and wood ear.
I tried this recipe tonight and my family enjoyed it. Replaced the bread bun with a grilled porterbella mushoom since I am watching my carbs yummy
Oh boy if you say it’s delicious I’m going to trust you. I can’t wait to try it
What about an onion bhaji burger in a pitta bread with a curry sauce? Love to see you come back to the UK!
Thanks Sam ! I’ll try it
You should also make a salmon burger 🍔
Cheers from San Diego California
He's made them before!! Great recipe if i recall
edit: You knocked this one out of the park, Sam! My husband asked that this be put on the repeat schedule. It was really good. Thanks.
Looks delicious!
Can we get a STCG WALKING TACO episode? But like a walking taco on steroids… or blow or insert drug you fancy here! Love you all! Keep it up!!!
WTH is a “walking” taco?
@@ZippityDont taco ingredients (beef cheese sour cream lettuce pico etc.) Thrown in a bag of Fritos or Doritos. I want Sam to take full creative liberties and just go to town😂
@@carterday5029 oh I’ve seen those. Didn’t know they were call that. Thx
They’re called walking tacos because you walk to the bathroom after eating them 😁 (I’ll show myself out now)
@@paulf.8651 Welp… at least now I know why they are called that😂😂
My body is craving a vegan burger and I’m not even vegan. I have been slowly changing my lifestyle and I’m excited to try this 😂 I can’t believe I’m here 😭
This recipe isn't vegan. It's got egg and butter in it.
It actually does look like a real meat burger! Great job! Would love to try this I actually really like veggie patty burgers 🍔 😍

Just found this channel. What a great time!! Refreshing change from the structured, boring cooking channels. 🤟
I love black beans, and haven't found one of these I like. I'm really excited to try this one. I'm also going to wait to try it until my mother in law is over as she's been a vegetarian her whole life and also hasn't had one of these she likes. I'm anxious to share the results! Also, I need an EVO, my wife agrees, my budget does not.
I am very interested in an update 😃
@@n.a.garciafamily they need to be pretty firm. The flavor was outstanding and we make it to eat as black beans on the side now. They need more binder to hold their texture though. Everyone said they would eat them again.
@@sheds thank you so much!!!
Add some toasted walnuts to mix. Makes a huge difference
I love black bean burgers! I’ve made them before and it was delicious. I can’t wait to try this recipe. Thanks!
P.S. cilantro is delicious in black bean burgers.
Black beans are shelf stable, so perfect for burgers when camping or adding to meat burger to stretch it.
This made my 17th birthday even better! (PS: Fuck The Haters!)
Love seeing some vegetarian recipes on your channel! I know that’s not what you’re about, but love to see it! Thanks!
I miss you guys! I’m trying to have a better life and I’m missing the videos! Thanks for keeping up your end of the deal. If I ever work again, I’m gonna miss more… still your #15 fan, because I use that garlic press like a crazy person!

Omg cant wait to make these vegan 😋
Looks pretty damn good! Glad you didn't add lentils or quinoa or oats or anything. I would most def eat that. In fact, I'm going to make that exactly the same. And one with Swiss and mushroom sauce. And bacon.
I add A1 sauce & grilled onions to my veggie burgers. I would love to try this recipe. Thank you for sharing. 👍🏾
Has Sam ever made something that wasn’t delicious?
Thanks keep it up
Hey. I think your veggie burgers turned out mighty tasty looking. I sure would want to take a bite or few 😋👌
I'm vegetarian no dairy and this helps idea wise. I'd just sub the egg with another binder and use butter made with avo oil with almond milk cheese and we're there!
Me: WHAT??? There's eggs being used thats totally cheating... Also Me: If I ever did this for some unfortold reason ide probably use eggs and fry the whole thing in bacon grease.... 🤣 🤣 🤣
How is that cheating? Its a veggie burger not a vegan burger....
I’ll be honest; the best burger I’ve ever had in my life is a black bean burger. Local farmer sells them at the market and they’re phenomenal. Still trying to work out the recipe, he won’t share, but this was really close.
Beef is the most bland, overrated food on the planet. A proper bean and veggie burger is infinitely more interesting and flavourful.
@webwabo16yes it is 😂 eat your meat unseasoned and you’ll see that your ass don’t like meat you like the consistency / texture the meat gives
Agree to disagree.
I'll agree with you beef is overrated but to call it bland is insane cope
How dare you say that about beef
Sorry Sam... Until you can slice a steak of tufo off of a steer, I'm not eating bead curd...but you enjoy!! and still gave you a thumbs up.....cuz I love ya...
Can’t believe the number of snowflakes commenting here. Grow up, expand your horizons a bit. Triggered much?
I hope to see more recipes like this. Looks great Sam.
I just feel like vegetarians shouldn't call this a "burger." As much as I love meat...I've done kale, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions and carrots, when I did 30-days vegan (no cheese or beans). It didn't taste bad at all...I just would not add unhealthy condiments to it, put inside a bun, and call it a "burger."
@@seanjones3551 So a burger is a sandwich essentially. Look at how many different things can be put into a sandwich and still be deemed a “sandwich”.
Btw- I’m not vegetarian, but do enjoy meatless options regularly.
I like this recipe, because it doesn`t need 3 hours and 15 ingredients like other vegan/vegetarian burger patties! So thank you very much, I`ll try it soon :)
It's a rare STCG fail. A veggie burger can't have egg in it, or it's not a veggie burger.
Thank u.finally somebody noticed
There's a difference between veggie and vegan
Veggie not vegan
ROTFL!!😂😂😂😂 A veggie burger with an egg!!
Used some pantry staples to whip up six of these. Had to blend up toast for my breadcrumbs and rehydrated a Cali chili and added a block of tempeh to the mix. Topped with gouda I had leftover. THE CARAMELIZED ONIONS THO... oh man. Keep it up Sam!
Who needs cooking classes when you got Sam?😂
For my health into my future of being dying healthy at 120 (maybe plus) I will not be preparing anything close to this, but I am still happy for those that will consume this and enjoy it.
Thank you for this, Sam! I can't have beef due to medical issues, and I SOOOO much miss my burgers! I'm looking forward to trying this. ❤
I will have to add to my prayer list: Do NOT disappoint the Boys. I love you guys..
I'm from Texas, the Texan part of Texas (not the greener, earthier parts of Austin or Dallas), and my burger patty needs to at one point in the past have had a future and a face. Now being from Texas I am no stranger to beans and especially black beans. A black bean salsa is a staple at my house. I'll make this and give it a shot, but right beside it on the grill will be a 20 oz Akaushi ribeye. Love what you do Sam.
3:20 The colour is perfect.
I recently went pescetarian and have been looking for a good quality veggie burger that doesn't break the bank (its insane how much they charge for premade processed vegetables with a bunch of additives).
This looks like an incredible recipe and I'm going to try it for sure.
With the associated environmental costs (including the amount of fresh water required to raise a single cow to maturity for slaughter) in addition to the animal rights issues some people have, I can definitely see the advantages to trying to make a quality "beef substitute" veggie burger.
Thank you so much for this recipe! I tried it out today and it was amazing!
Frying was awful
