    If you are noticing more lag than usual when you press the accelerator, or the engine sputters or hesitates, it could be due to a dirty throttle body. Because the engine vents back into the intake system, over time, carbon and oily residue builds up inside the throttle body, which could cause the throttle blade to stick or seize up. In this video, Len shows you his preferred method of cleaning up the throttle body so that you can get more life out of it! He also shows you why you need to be extra careful with electronic throttle bodies to prevent damage.

    These days with PCV and EGR that is one of those things that some people might benefit from a lot. That is because that stuff goes back through the air intake and throttle body. Then direct injected engines get that built up on the valves. A catch can would be a really good idea. It will not replace intake valve and throttle body cleaning but it should make those needed less

There will usually be a build up till that point like rough idle or just cutout while driving (it wont bog down just completely cut out for micro periods of time then will usually result in it dying atp) replaced fuel pump and still has the issue.

    My check engine light been on for a while, so i got checked, I got a reading on my throttle position sensor to a 2010 Chevy Camaro V6 it was P0122 Circuit Low Voltage and P0223 Circuit High Voltage. Would could that be? Or mean? I removed and cleaned the throttle body by the instructions to this AWSOME video, thanks Btw, throttle looks spanking new but that obviously that didn't solve the issue... so
    I need a recommendation, would u replace the whole throttle body and sensor? Or CAN u just replace the sensor by itself? It's a huge price difference for something that might be a simple fix. Thanks in advance If u get back at me, it would be so freaking badass! The knowledge I've learned from you guys and your videos have saved me a ton.

  • @georget9903
    @georget9903 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not sure, but from the title it seems like you would only clean the throttle body if you experienced problems; is that correct? I was recently told by a dealership mechanic that cleaning the throttle body is part of the 30K and 60K maintenance packages and would cost $300 each time. However, the vehicle manual's maintenance schedule makes no mention of throttle body cleaning at all. Dealership scam or manufacturer's omission? The mechanic could be making more money by recommending an unnecessary service; but the manufacturer could also be omitting a service to decrease time to engine failure and thereby increase sales from higher turnover.

      I did NOT take my TB off, but instead cleaned it with Seafoam and the first time it lasted 9 months, the 2nd time 1 month (like yours), and the 3rt time I had the dealer do a TB "cleaning" and again it lasted 1 month.
      Now what I do is remove the TB hose and squirt the butter fly valve with a few shots of carb cleaner and that's it. Five minutes / Five cents.
      Please note: I am not looking for a permeant fix since I will be getting rid of my car in 1-2 years - so I am not willing to spend a lot of time or money trying to fix it.

    • @jerryspann8713
      @jerryspann8713 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you didn't remove it, you are missing a lot of gunk. I tried to clean mine without removing it and it didn't do any good at all. When I decided to remove the TB to clean it I saw why my car idle was rough. The carbon build up on the back side was caked on. I had to spray it around least 15 times to remove a line of carbon build up below the butterfly. Luckily mine TB is the type that uses a cable from the accelerator peddle and I could open the butterfly for a thorough cleaning. Car runs like new.

    Thanks for this clear concise tutorial. Wel done!
    I might also suggest that if the "reduced engine power" warning is displaying, especially after a dead battery, first try following the throttle body recalibration procedure starting at about 6 min. Following the procedure, brought the engine back to normal, but the engine light stayed on, which I was able to cure by disconnecting both battery cable for 10 min, then reconnecting.

    I suspect that the battery was depleted from an Allstate Milewise device constantly trickle draining the battery whie the vehicle sat dormant for several weeks.

    If its that dirty and you plan to keep the vehicle the cheapest thing is to just replace it, typically $50 on eBay. Why go through all that trouble when it could slip into limp mode again when it fails (which it always will) thus costing you future time and money.

      No. It does however make it idle higher but should quiet down once the computer auto adjust it
