  • Does your car idle poorly, have a rough idle, or in general have an idle problem? Learn how to fix a car with high or low idle, and learn how to fix a car that idles up and down by cleaning the idle air control valve. The IAC valve is what keeps the cars idle at around 800rpms. If you turn the ac on and it idles low or your car stalls at lights or in reverse, or your car shakes at idle, this video can also help!

    Hey Chris,
I don't know if you'll see this but if you do, I want you to know that what you do is what has pretty much started my career, kinda. I'm now in college doing motor vehicle maintenance and repair, sort of what you do. If it wasn't for you, this wouldn't have happened. I just wanna thank you for starting my college life. Thanks to you, I know more about cars than ever before.
I love watching you, and it will become more important as my life here in the UK starts and changes. I love you so much, and I just want you to know this.

Thank you Chrisfix, my 03 Taurus SE was idling at 1200-2000 rpm at idle, and this fixed the problem. I’ve been watching your channel for years and knew that one day I’d have my own car and you’ve been a great help with some minute-ish things, I appreciate all that you do!!! If only I could find a fix for the high shift. But it’s only a 4 speed from what I’ve found, so I might replace the trans.

Thanks so much for another great video! Here's my experience!
I have a 99 Cherokee Limited (XJ 4.0L) that was starting to show strange issues with rough idle, stalling, and RPMs fluctuating. It happened fairly randomly. I was worried there was a problem with the fuel system, but it was suggested I try to clean the throttle body and/or replace the IAC. Then I found this video and you identified the *exact* issue I was having with fluctuating RPMs, as well as common ways to trigger it. In my case, rough running or stalls would randomly happen during hard turns, the transmission shifting gears, or me shifting from P/R to D. I would also experience periods of very rough idle with low/fluctuating RPMs when in park, or stopped at lights. And on top of all that, I'd sometimes have trouble starting the car; I'd have to tap on the gas while cranking to get it to turn over.
Your video finally encouraged me to stop being lazy and clean the IAC valve. I also went one step further and cleaned the throttle body; the XJ's IAC is a little awkward to remove by itself, and I had never cleaned the throttle body so it was long overdue. I just finished up and went for a ride around town - no issues with stalling or fluctuating RPMs whatsoever! Fingers crossed that it stays that way!

Congrats. You just got a new subscriber. I heard about you on another video, I watch a lot of car repair videos, and haven’t been happy with other guys. Either they are trying to be comedians or they flat out are speaking about something they know less about than my niece. (My niece is very smart, just doesn’t work on cars.) Your video was extremely informative, straight to the point, and thorough. You should be proud, you obviously take care to make great videos, I can see this clearly. Thanks again, I will be watching many more videos in the future. 👍✌

You are a lifesaver! I can't even begin to thank you enough! I recently picked up an '02 Mustang as a project car, but it needs some major cleaning and maintenance and quite a few things need to be replaced. Not complaining in the least as my neighbor basically just gifted it to me to work on with my son. Subbed, and I am looking forward to watching more videos on your channel.

This is exactly the video I was expecting to see since long. I have 3 cars all suffering the same IAC issue but no one could fix it. Now that I have seen it, i will clean the IAC's and let you know. Thanks again Chris.
