In todays video i will show how to clean throttle body weather if its cable controlled or electrical
so Don't Clean throttle body before watching this, there are some things you should know before cleaning that way you don't damage your car and cost you more for repairing
Steps for gunk Cleaning cable controlled or Electrical Throttle body
---So for cleaning cable Controlled Throttle body, after i removed throttle body hose and spray CRC throttle cleaner with plate closed and then open the plate and spray the cleaner again, then wipe it with paper towel
after 5 minutes put the throttle hose back
--So for cleaning Electrical Throttle body, after removing throttle body hose, spray CRC throttle cleaner with plate closed and then put the key on (ON) position, ask someone to hold the gas paddle and spray the cleaner again, then wipe it with paper towel
release the gas paddle
after 5 minutes put the throttle hose back

This method is good when throttle body is slightly dirty. But if it’s too dirty better to open it and then clean from inner side too. Secondly never spray directly inside the throttle body when it’s attached all the dirt goes into intake. Better to apply spray on clean cloth and then clean it. That’s how i clean electric throttle of my cars.

A friend cleaned my throttle bottle with thinners, my car has been revving and consuming so much fuel itself since then. I’m struggling to get a spare throttle bottle for Chevrolet
@@tee3294 Your friend may have sprayed way too much into the throttle body that it seeped into the electronic control panel on the side of it, causing damage. Very little cleaner is needed.

Best throttle body cleaning video on YT. Only one I found describing how to safely and properly clean the electronic TB and neat tip with torque wrench.
I have a 2010 WV beetle with a 2.5 automatic. I noticed recently more hesitation while shifting. I followed your technique of using in my case a piece of wood to keep the throttle plate open. Its interesting how clean it looked from the outside, but after the seafoam spray it was like black ⚫️ tar coming from it. I felt resistance against the motor (buzzing noice) once I bumped the throttle plate. I was able to lightly brush the plate. After about 10 minutes of cleaning, i started the car up. Quicker starting, quieter idling, and consistently better shifting. Thats just from driving down my street. Thank you sir for your help. Eveything i needed was already home for some time so basically it was free maintenance.
My dealership charges $89 for this service so watched this video and did it for a few pennies that the clear costs.

Yes it's worth that much if they're going to remove it and clean it properly, not just spray stuff into it.
Plus there’s more involved than just spraying in the throttle body it’s a 3 part kit that includes something like sea forming

Had my throttle body off when I replaced the coolant bypass hose on my 2005 Tacoma and cleaned it I moved the throttle plate by hand very slowly and cleaned it no damage what so ever and that was 2 years ago still running great
Most damage comes from cleaning throttle body while still connected electrically.

You are right. Open the electronically activated throttle plate very slowly and gently. Don’t force anything. Spray the microfibre cloth not inside the throttle body and use one finger to carefully wipe.
I always remove the throttle when cleaning them. Maybe this is short cut but i want it cleaned well on thw other side too and not riak of having the dirt and grime going to the intake manifold.
Exactly, those cheap youtube videos try to lure people into clicking liking and subscribing with cheap advice, and don't care what happens to people's cars. I had a ton of grime come out when I removed and cleaned mine.

Good points! Today I cleaned my electrical throttle body with Gumout cleaner, my ignition is a push start and I don't have the option to leave it open the way you did with the long rod. Yes I did get the engine light, but after cleaning and spraying into the throttle body little at the time while revving the engine afterwards the Kia Niro accelerated like a champ, I almost could not feel it and small hills became easier to climb and I could feel the air going through very well with a roar. I also did have a 16OZ B12 Chemtrol cleaner for the fuel. Now I will be clearing the engine light soon.
What codes did you get on the check engine light? I have 2018 Camry and my throttle body is not opening on key accessory position. is there any other way or should I move it by hand?
@@sumanravichandran9107 The only way to open the throttle is by using a clean piece of wood or a hard plastic material to avoid scratching it . It is like a spring it will open and then spray the chemical a little at a time inbetween each spray when I rev the engine I close it by not touching it it goes back the way it is when you first start. And then rev it a little bit and spray gently again and again each time revving the engine at 2K RPM not to eceed 3K rpm. This was my experience towards the end I sprayed an 1/8 of a can and let it sit with the engine off, for about 45 minutes and took it for a drive. Drove for about 10-12 miles and it run beautifully? I have about 31.5K miles on my Kia Niro.
Go to any Chevy parts dealer they sell stuff called top engine cleaner, it’s the best hands down. A couple drops of this on a microfiber rag and your throttle body and butterfly are golden. Also clean the IAC Valve and MAF Sensor while you are at it using Sensor Cleaner.
Seen some TH-cam videos using Sea foam and a toothbrush with Great results the Sea foam won't hurt the coated bushings on the throttle shaft

Remove the throttle body completely to avoid damaging your intake manifold. Throttle body cleaner melts plastic on contact. At least in my engine, there is a plastic cylinder just behind the throttle body lining the intake manifold. If you spray cleaner into the body like this, it will get behind and onto that plastic and will melt the surface. This will make the surface of the cylinder rough and pock-marked, at the least. Furthermore, You won't be able to clean the inner throttle body behind the plate without removing the body. A lot of carbon builds up on the other side of the plate.
If you want to see how quickly the cleaner melts plastic, just find a piece of plastic you don't care about damaging and squirt some on it. I dripped some onto a paper towel sitting on some plastic under my hood and it melted the plastic underneath, fusing the paper towel to the plastic in seconds.
Now that is a smart way to clean the throttle body. I've seen people doing it other ways and then have to relearn the throttle idle control. This was EXTREMELY informative.
Depending on the car, it may be easy to relearn it, like turning on the ignition, waiting 60s and turning it off. If it is, that's easier than using something to keep the pedal down and avoiding any contact with the throttle.
For a Toyota, the idle relearn procedure is super easy
The reason you relearn the body idle air control is because you removed the smut from the throttle body that is causing the plate to have to open more to run. Not because you manipulate the plate.
@@codyprice0295 There is a position sensor in those electronic versions. Manually moving them throws them out of sync or damages them.

Good video. Make sure to clean the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve while you’re in there. Same steps as shown but you’ll need brushes to scrub the housing, valve pintle, and spring.

What does being female have to do with it?
A little add up:
-if you won't let it to dry, car may be hard to start for the first time because of fumes of cleaner left in the intake
-if you have modern throttle position sensor it may need some time for ECU to readjust after cleaning. So it will be good if you replace ECU fuse before start cleaning and put it back after you reassemble all the parts.
Never heard anyone mention this other than removing the neg to battery. Does that work as well?

@@Nytellem Yes it does. I remove ECM1 and ECM2 fuses after I'm done for about 1 minute and then put them back in. I do this every time I modify my intake system...Now I got it just where I want it. So even when you are doing an intake system, throttle body spacer, exhaust, etc. It is always a good idea to reset the computer system this way. Plus it's easier than removing the battery terminal. Hope this helps.

@@premiumc2282 I would look in the owners manual for fuses or fuse box at the back of the book. Once you locate it, then you can see how the layout is setup on your car and pick the ECM or ECU fuse/fuses. My Scion has 2 ECU fuses so I pulled them both after I cleaned the throttle body and waited one minute then put them back in to reset the computer everything was fine. Hope this helps.

On an electric powered throttle before any spraying of the cleaner disconnect the multiplug. No need for ignition to be on. Once multiplug taken off you can move the butterfly valve by hand but slowly. No problem.
Removing multi plug or removing -ve battery terminal , which one is better ?

Yeah dont clean electric throttle bodies like this. What he showed can damage them plus can hurt you doing that that way. Just take the throttle body all the way off and run a throttle position reset when you hook it up. Most cars its easy and also improves responsiveness from the sensor reset.

@@ivanangulo85 depends on model. My 2016 F150 you don't need a scan tool. It's a specific sequence with the Key, gas pedal, and then letting it warm up.
Also when you are done your car might be a little hard to start and when it does you might see smoke from your exhaust. It goes away pretty quickly depending on how much cleaner that you had used. I can only speak on the ones with the cable. If you have one that is really filthy it is better to remove it to give it a good cleaning. Old toothbrushes really make short work out of cleaning one and you can use a toothbrush even with the throttle body on the engine.

You can in fact, open most electrical throttle body by hand, may want to check with your individual manufactuer but Hondas, Toyotas, Subarus all allow you to open the butterfly valve by hand, just don't over extend it and do a throttle body / idle relearn afterwards.

Honda Accord euro 2009 2.0 R20A3 just cleaned out whilst ignition on position 2 and weight on gas peddle so butterfly is fully open/closed. After clean, disconnect battery for 15 mins, reconnect with all lights and radio off, go to ignition positon 2 for 2 seconds, then start car, run at 3000rpm for 5 mins or until fan kicks in, and throttle position relearn is all done, set ready to go. Idle rock steady and running sweet 👌😙. This teaches ECU the adjusted position of throttle after it has been cleaned

The key on/ pedal push method was new to me!
I removed mine fully on 2006 Tundra 4.7 and really carefully did open gently, as well as a few on engine cleanups.
Seems no harm done, just a clean TB!
Mine was a little dirtier lol. Ended having to use a toothbrush and microfiber towel. After a couple passes it was nice and clean again 👌🏻

Never, ever stick your fingers in an electronic throttle body with power plugged in.

This is true, coming from a red seal tech. Drive by wire systems you make sure the vehicles battery negative is disconnected.

@@ThatBoyMichael1 disconnect battery negative, this insures the plate doesn't move unexpectedly with your fingers in there. I'm sure it's fine on that model to manually move throttle plate for carbon cleaning.

You can manually articulate an electric TB plate, just be careful doing so. Do it slowly, and don't force the extreme position on either end. I've never had issues after cleaning my Ram 5.7 Hemi TB like that every time. I actually always remove it for a cleaning because it is easier to work on. It sits right on top of the engine up front so it is easy to remove. 4 bolts and an electrical connector. Never had any problems.

Did you spray it into the electronic throttle body? Because I learned through the Penfoster course I completed, that it is not wise to spray the cleaner directly into the throttle body because it may get into the TPS sensors and may do some damage.
I heard that you not supposed to spray directly into the throttle body because it can mess up the electronic components inside the throttle
It's safe. The spray will just burn off through the exhaust when you start it. Just let it run for about 5-10 minutes to work it through.

Smart trick with torque wrench - this is true re: electronic controlled throttle bodies - they are electronically calibrated and very sensitive. Never force open with hand.
I would not inject in a throttle body like this with a VAG throttle bodies because because they break internally (circuit board) , but just wipe it with a cloth and clean the valve, it's best to completely disassemble the throttle for better results
the correct way it to remove the TB so you don't spray the residue down to your valves and create carbon build up on the valve seats. Also carb cleaner will work fine. For drive by wire systems it's not hard to relearn the TB. It's usually a peddle dance.
Agree on the best way is to disconnect battery, remove throttle body to clean and avoid spraying down intake. Carb cleaners are to harsh for a throttle body. It will strip the coating that most of the modern vehicles come with. Stick to 'Throttle Body Cleaner. As for 'relearns, disconnect battery to clear computer of all old parametrs, to make sure computer has cleared all old parameters, touch both positive and negative cables together (both cables removed from battery terminals.) Reconnect battery terminals, turn off all electrical items in vechicle, lights, radio, ac, wipers etc.,idle vehicle till in the normal temperature range 185°- 210°, this relearns new idle postions, shut off for about a minute, restart, take it for a drive for it to learn new set of shift points. This is how to get good results, by starting anew and fresh!!
So now you know why 'true mechanics charge to do this service. It's not just cleaning the throttle body.

No, carb cleaner and choke cleaner most of the times damage it
Wrong stuff dissolves the special coating on the TB.
It's best if you remove the electrical throttle body and clean the back and front side. Then just put it back.
Sorry for this: never, never spray the t.b cleaner directly onto the throttle body itself. The solvent goes through the butterfly shaft and can damage either the TPS circuitry or the throttle by wire electronics. The correct method is spraying a soft shop cloth and then clean the throttle carefully. The best of the best is to remove the throttle and clean it off the engine. That's a more professional way but it takes more time and the job will be more expensive to the costumer.

The TPS /sensors are isolated OUTSIDE the airflow path.
My hose took a lot more work to get off and I had to be careful to not pry against stuff that might break to get if off.

What happens if you moved the plate manually on electric throttle? I just did it, and drove for 3 miles. Felt fine, but Not sure if I damaged anything.
Ur not gonna damage the electronic throttle body if you move the butterfly valve. Just unplug the electronic connector after u disconnect the negative terminal on ur battery. Personally I would take the entire throttle body out of the vehicle and use an old toothbrush and throttle body cleaner to clean the entire throttle body. Don't use paper towel because it can tear and leave small pieces in the throttle body. After you clean it use a towel to wipe residue and put back on vehicle.
Good video. Did this a few times on my cable controlled Explorer & Mirage throttle bodies but did not use towel to clean residue. Never knew they made an electrical throttle body. Don't like that idea in case of an uncontrollable surge.

How do you reprogram electronic throttle body?
just let it idle for a few minutes or driving on the freeway from 40 mph raise and drop speed or cycle the key in the ignition a few times each car is different for me i just had to idle it for a few minutes
But my mechanic have been got problem with this services, after cleaned throtle valve and body, then engine was failed to idling...idling stuck and hunting....a new problem was happened...by the way, always be carefull guys...sometimes cleaning dirt and and deposit carbon could make problem to your engine
If your mechanic used carb cleaner on throttle body, it will mess up so many things, that's why only throttle body cleaner has to be used

For some cars you need to re program the plate, and for some, it needs to be replaced

i clean my TB of my mitsu lancer 2015. I unplugged the battery terminal unplugged the tb and I sprayed the fluid on a microfiber towel and slowly and carefully opened the tb. A lot of dirt cameoff (149thousand miles on car) before the clean i had rough idling slow response (variety of 700 rpm to 400) and after I cleaned it. It stays in 600rpm no more rough idling better response on gas and i notice more power on the engine ngl

@@izrulizrol1122 since my car has an electric tb i just unplugged the cable but i did not took it off. After i finish . I put back everything together and then I turn Ignition on (dont start the car) and then hold the the gas pedal all the way for 1 minute and then turn the ignition off (without removing your feet of the gas pedal) then very very slowly remove your feet of the gas pedal . And then start the car and go for 20 minutes drive (after 5 mins turn the ac all the way) and you should see good results

Well since MAF is BEFORE throttle, do you think that crc carb cleaner spraying directly to the throttle while engine running would help ungunk the valves?

i wouldn’t trust spraying that into the hose or valve better spray by on towel and wipe or removed it all together

Tip: Dont use the red straw when spraying, there's a chance it can come off and fall inside the throttle body. Next, don't use paper tower, it can rip easily and fall inside, instead, use a cloth to wipe.

I did this same cleaning but moved the butterfly by hand. I didn’t use unusual force and hope I didn’t damage it. The car runs better but mpg still not where it should be. Any thoughts.

On my 2011 Ford fusion hybrid, the air filter is a lifetime filter under the fender.
All the cleaner and gunk goes into IVC and clogs that...not good idea, use a rag with cleaner instead

When I have cleaned TBs I will remove from engine to clean most of the gunk forms is on the back side of the butterfly valve. You can move the valve by hand just do it slowly
