      I love the Complete Cookies. Well except Oatmeal Raisin and the Chocolate Chip ones. 😂

    Oh! I recall that Casbah (and maybe Fantastic Foods?) made powdered/instant hummus (tabouli, too!). I remember back in the 90s buying those to help make vegan wraps for lunch (I don't recall back then seeing very much selection for real hummus or tabouli). Anyway, thanks for sharing this!

      I was thinking about looking for instant hummus! I’ll have to see what I can find! 😊

    Check out "Paul the Backpacker" channel. He has several videos on plant-based backpacking food if you're looking for more ideas.

      That "Paul the Backpacker" is weird, he eats all his food cold. These are a nice alternative to the flour wraps ishr.site/op8f Not sure how widely they are available but with the addition of flax seed they are a bit more nutritious.

    I just found your channel! You rock my friend! I'm vegan and allergic to many other things. So I will closely be following you and your vegan choices! I turn 50 in 2022. The middle of May. So I am so excited for you and to watch you and your AT hike next year.
    I'll be doing the AT in about 2-5 years. I have a 13 yr old dog who is my life and unfortunately he is going down hill. I'm holding on to him tightly as long as I can before he leaves.
    Thanks for your channel and thanks for letting me follow along in your journeys!

      So awesome to hear you planning your AT hike in upcoming years! I completely understand want to be with your dog in their senior years. It’s so important to take care of our fur friends. 😊

    Black bean flakes, OH MY! I love couscous. Chia seeds are also great to prevent dehydration on hot days. Now to find some of those chickpeas. Thank you so much for making this video. Food = morale, and I’m always looking to add variation👍

    Your food video is a breath of fresh air. I am not vegan or vegetarian but I do enjoy a lot of meat-free dishes on and off the trail. All that said, your food choices just look so wholesome and healthy over all. I have watched a lot of videos about food on the trail and how difficult it can be to resupply if you are wanting healthy and / or special diet options. Please update us from the trail with how it is going food wise.

    • @silvasoutdooradventures
      @silvasoutdooradventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much! I will definitely keep you all updated from the trail! I know it will be challenging to resupply but hopefully between town resupplies and Matt sending me resupply boxes when needed it won’t be to difficult.

    I love the snickerdoodle cookies. They have a mint chocolate chip and apple pie flavor that i want to try but havent seen them in singles yet. They also have a lemon poppy seed flavor too

    The Neat Meat is a powder mix- not sure how you would cook that on trail....

    • @silvasoutdooradventures
      @silvasoutdooradventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a few ideas on how too ok use on trail. It doesn’t take much water to mKe crumbles and I may try that in my cooking pot. Also thinking since it’s all ingredients you can eat without them being a certain temp I’ll try adding it to rice, ramen or noodles. We’ll see maybe it won’t work the way I want it to. 😊 I just bought TVP that I’m going to try out too.

    • @aysansarai1299
      @aysansarai1299 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@silvasoutdooradventures You need water, oil, and a pan to make burgers or meat crumbles. I would highly suggest no one rely on this for a meal during a thru hike. There are many more alternatives

    • @silvasoutdooradventures
      @silvasoutdooradventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wasn’t going to try to make burgers for sure just crumbles and could carry the olive oil packets for oil. Also I agree definitely not relying on this there are lots of alternatives.

    I put nooch in all my breakfasts(oatmeal!) and dinners. I heard that the Bvitamins can help keep mosquitoes at bay. certainly doesnt hurt to try!

    • @silvasoutdooradventures
      @silvasoutdooradventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve never put nooch in my oatmeal! I put it on a lot of things but never thought about adding it to oatmeal. Lol 😂 Keeping mosquitoes away would be great!

    • @tdeen752
      @tdeen752 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Silver Linings Vegan Adventures I made up 10 different varieties of oatmeal for breakfast-they each had different fruit and nut combos, sometimes cocoa etc. but the base recipe was always the same: bobs redmill 5grain, nooch, chia, and some brown sugar. Took a little work upfront, but it was so nice to not have to worry about getting nutrients on trail.

    • @silvasoutdooradventures
      @silvasoutdooradventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      tdee n I’m planning on do some of my own is way. A lot of the oatmeal packets have ingredients I don’t want and aren’t vegan. I love dried fruit, nuts and seeds in my oatmeal. Plus cinnamon lots of cinnamon. Lol

    • @tdeen752
      @tdeen752 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s why I did the bobs red mill. The 5grain has flax too. And they worked just fine for freezer bag cooking, even though they aren’t instant.

  • @bobfradette937
    @bobfradette937 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video on some plant based alternatives. Good luck on your resupplies while on trail. I found I spent a lot of time reading ingredients on labels trying to stay vegan on trail.

    • @silvasoutdooradventures
      @silvasoutdooradventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks I’m sure it will take some time reading labels. Since my husband will be home it will help that he can send resupply boxes sometimes. I don’t want to rely on on that as it will be difficult but having them sent sometimes should help. Did you find it very difficult on trail besides reading all the labels?

    • @bobfradette937
      @bobfradette937 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@silvasoutdooradventures Yes, especially in the trail towns where there is no major grocery store. My wife and I had decided before I got on trail not to send resupply and that I would resupply from Dollar General, Gas Marts and Walmarts etc.. I ate a lot of Oreo's!! Sounds like you and your husband have a solid plan. I will be following your journey with great interest as fellow vegan and Maine resident. I am planning to hike the Benton MacKaye Trail leaving from Amicalola Falls on April 28 and plan to be done in 4 to 5 weeks. Safe travels and happy hiking....

    Wow!!! You will be the healthiest hiker on trail. Can you eat Snickers? How long does it take before you are hungry enough to eat a whole dinner packet? This Summer, I brought one dinner packet per night and was out 5 nights..never was hungry enough to finish the whole meal.
    Great job as usual Silva!

    • @silvasoutdooradventures
      @silvasoutdooradventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha Thanks! Snickers has milk and eggs in them so I don’t eat them but Oreos are vegan. Not healthy but vegan. Lol I’m sure I will have them on tough days. Usually I can find dark chocolate that is vegan or the Justin’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter cups. I have never been able to eat a whole backpacking meal either! It will be interesting to see how long before we can! 😂

    I think I would add an avacado, a small roma tomato, and a small onion, and salsa packet from Taco Bell for tortilla wrap.
