Great video. I’m planning a hike and looking for healthy eating options. You gave some really great tips. Thanks for doing this!

Excellent video! Probably the best vegan shopping trail (I'm not sure what order to put those words) video I've seen so far! I've seen videos where they talk about being vegan on trail and seen hikers show some of what they are doing on trail (like bringing fresh foods), but this video presented all that in one "package" with shopping at a grocery store and explaining your thinking behind those purchases! Also, I forgot all about those Nature's Bakery brownies! (I haven't been in a grocery store in months and will continue curbside pickup for the foreseeable future.)

Thank you Allen! I worked hard on that video. I plan on making WalMart, Dollar General, and drug store versions too. As well as great vegan bulk purchases on Amazon for mail drops. Also, get the brownies! They're life, lol.

Thanks for this! Very helpful. I've been vegan for 30+ years, but the thought of dealing with re-supply on a long trip was daunting. One question: This seems like way too few calories. I'm 117 and 5'-6" and if I'm not doing ANYTHING I need 1500 cals a day. Add in 15 miles a day and I will need more like 4000 cals. Did you lose weight on trail?

I am currently switching to a plant based diet and have been wondering how to successfully do this on the trail as well. I agree with you that this video has been helpful but also that the caloric intake seems very low. Looking at the lunch of one hotdog, a couple tortillas, and some dip at the most you're getting would be a couple hundred calories. I know that certain foods are more self stable than others. However, I am not sure how much faith I would put in these hotdogs after they have been out for a day (and being opened) and not refrigerated. Plus at only 50 calories per hotdog they are not a very caloric dense choice. Yes, I would like something other than ramen and bars but there has to be better options than that.

Late to find this but great. Who says you can’t thru hike as a vegan. I’m not sure about the sausage though unless it was cooked. Thanks and happy trails,🤘🏻🥾⛰️

Great video! It's like to do the AT one day but coming from Canada sending myself resupplies is difficult. Nice to know I should be able to resupply vegan style on trail.

You can do it! Someday soon, hopefully. And honestly, building boxes to mail ahead while you're already on trail is a bit time consuming, but totally doable. Especially on a zero day! Send your first few boxes from home... then build and mail as you go! Happy Trails!
