    This is awesome. I'm vegan/GF and there aren't a lot of comprehensive videos about this that I've found. Also, thinking TVP might work with the shepherd's pie. Cheers!

    Very interesting! Maybe showing the food you're talking about or even better showing the meals preparations can help the communication and the interest to arrive at the end of the video ;) thank you for the several tips!

    Young lady...you are awesome! My fiance and I are purchasing a dehydrator for food storage and your idea about ordering Indian food and dehydrating it is sorcery-level. My mind was blown...never even occurred to me. Many, many thanks.

    Thanks so much! My 15 year old son and I are planning our first backpacking trip for his 18th birthday and was really concerned about what we were supposed to eat!

    Hi! This was so helpful, thank you for posting!
    I used to hike alot since a teen, stopped for like 3 years.. started back up again since pandemic / when county opened trails back up again. I'm planning full day hikes now & I was wondering what to pack for food and snacks, so glad I came across your video! Soon will start backpacking as well.

    Thanks for making this video! I’m vegan-planning a thru-hike and am looking for inspiration for trail meals. I don’t have a dehydrator (though I’d love to jump in and figure it out) but I’d love to see how you take a pre-made meal like the Indian food you referenced and turn it into a meal for your hike.

    Must echo the fruit in the oatmeal. I dehydrate a lot of food, and the fruit comes together nicely with the oatmeal

    Great video. I've been researching backpacking meals but they all seem to be eating junk food. 2 min noodles etc. This is the first nutritional food that I could actually sustain on for a few days hiking Great job. Recipes are always great and maybe a video on how to dehydrate a few different types of meals. I've just bought a dehydrator but i've only dried fruit in it, not actual evening meals. Keep up the good work!

    Just found this video after searching for some plant based meals I can take to the field…I’m in the army. Nice recommendations…any other foods/snacks you would recommend that are like “shelf stable” for 3-4 days. Stuff that can just be stored in a ruck bag an taken out to eat without to much concern?…

    This was very helpful. I contracted AlphaGal (meat/dairy allergy from tick bite) and I can no longer eat anything that contains mammal ingredients. It has been tricky from a hiking perspective to carry a good variety of food while avoiding cows. Seems the food industry like to hide cows in almost everything. I have found that Kosher foods labeled PARVE to be a good source. Cool channel.

      Be sure to check the labels on PARVE items - parve food doesn't have meat or dairy, but may include egg or fish.

    How do you used the dehydrator for salsa and curries when they are liquid? Thanks.

      Just spread it in a thin layer on a baking sheet with edges on either parchment paper or a rubber baking mat!

    I've only done one backpacking trip. I want to learn more. Why do you have all that dehydrated food when you have to add water to it to make it edible? Why not just bring something that already has the water in it? Of course it's heavier but don't you have to carry your water anyway?

    • @WanderingTheGap
      @WanderingTheGap  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dehydrated food tends to last longer and even with adding water to rehydrate it still typically weighs less than other meal pouches and snacks, but it’s really personal preference and how much weight you’re willing to carry!

    • @roberttrinies7698
      @roberttrinies7698 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      True if you have to carry your water the whole distance, but that's rarely the case,especially on multi day hikes. ✌️

    Try being a vegan backpacker that has no teeth. Very limited options.
