    I have had my 391 since 2007 I run a 28 inch bar with a Skip tooth chisel chain since the day I bought it! It’s never ever had any problems and I have used every inch of that 28inch bar many times! That saw has made me a lot of money still runs strong as hell. Going to get it ported this spring can’t wait to see how it will run then! I already have a ported ms661 and a few others have always thought the 391 would be a great saw to get ported it makes great power stock with a better intake and a little muffler porting. It should do great never seen a video of a ported 391 so I will have to do one when it is done.

      I just purchased an MS 391 with a 28 inch bar that came with it. The saw looked clean like somebody maybe had used it once. The saw is so strong the 28 inch bar is perfect for it I think. I have a 034 with a 28 inch bar, as long as you know your saw, and you don’t bog it down, You can do it

    Great video, I really enjoyed it and learned a lot. That decompression valve reduces the compression to make it easier to pull the cord when starting… you probably know that but just described it the other way around. Keep up the good work.

    Looks like a nice big saw. It took a lot of pulls to start! Good tip on the summer and winter mode. Beautiful piece of wood. It might be a good idea to let the saw seat all the way down against the rubber of the Artillian saw mount (rather than the blade taking the side forces).

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks.
      You make a great point about the saw in the artillian rack.
      The way that I originally had it configured the Saw would not sit down all the way because the chain break was up against the fuel storage cage.
      Earlier today I re-oriented the arrangement on the back of the tractor and now I can set the saw down in all the way.
      I just uploaded an updated thumbnail picture for that video as well

  • @flapjackson6077
    @flapjackson6077 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The MS392 was a superb choice!
    The 362 is smaller, lighter engine (59cc), but has a slightly larger fuel tank, and can run at 14,000 rpm, although the power band will max out probably closer to 12,000. The 362 is about a pound an a half lighter (dry weight).
    The 392 is factory set to run at 12,000 rpms, with the power band maxing out at around 10,500-11,000.
    If you research Stihl model numbers through the years, you’ll see that the 392 was originally the 039, later becoming the 390, then 391, and now the 392. The same goes for other Stihl models.
    The 039-392 is a beast. The biggest difference between “pro” saws and home owner saws is that the pro saws allow to adjust the fuel to air ratio. Home owners saws have little red plugs preventing access to the adjustment screws. I bought a 390 used some years back. I leaned the card, removed those pesky red plugs, did a muffler mod, and set the air/fuel mix so the engine tops out at 13,800 rpms, shifting the power band to the higher rpm range.
    It rips! A friend of mine has a 461(same as the 462). We set up a roughly 15” diameter piece of cherry wood to compare saws. He beat me by 2 seconds over a roughly 20 second cut.
    If you’re experienced with a chainsaw, a full chisel chain (marked by yellow paint) is faster than the green marked chains that come with most saws. Full chisel kicks back easier when using the tip of the bar, so take that into account.
    Rest assured, you have great saw! The 25” rollomatic bar wasn’t availible when I got mine so I settled for the 20”. It’s fine, but I wish I had a 25”.

Also my friend got an echo from home depot and it only lasted like 3 months with only 3 days of heavy use. This one is a little bit out of my price range but I like the bar length. I’ve got an ms391 and an 034av also, and I honestly like the echo’s better. The 590 is just as strong as the 391 and balances better with the 24” bar. Was wondering how you would lift the logs for cutting with the 335G the way the door opens. Attempted cutting a few just yesterday and even if a guy were to weigh 100lbs there is no way you are getting out of that door with a raised grapple.
    Thinking about the 500i as well, using a 271 right now and I'm not a fan of the choke system. You pull one times too many when starting instead of reducing to half choke when it first sputters and you are stuck on the trail with a tree Infront of you blocking your route back to deer camp. Don't really need a bigger bar on it, weight and portability matter a lot for this application.
    Considered the battery operated saws for the sake of reliability and low noise, but if you have to pack another 2x60V batteries with you just incase you run out of juice it becomes extra baggage fast, -30 weather puts a nail in the coffin of that idea as they would be frozen before you even get to use them.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I can lower my Grapple and then curl it up and get something an inch or two off the ground, but I cannot set it at chest height like this
      Definitely a drawback.
      I generally don’t have a problem with any of my steel chainsaws but if you ever get one that you pull too many times like you’re talking about it seems like you have to pull it 100 times with the throttle held
      I’m no expert on small engines though

This 372 has been a GREAT saw but local dealer retired and closed up shop.... I have slowly switched to Stihl saws. How do you think your 391 would compare to Husq 372? • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your 372 is a 70 cc chainsaw
      My 391 is a 64 cc chainsaw
      So they have similar power output, but I’m not enough of a chainsaw expert to compare the two especially Husqvarna
      For instance in the stihl line the 362 is really a better saw than the 391 even though it’s lower cc.
      The difference between those two is a higher quality carburetor in the 362 which is considered a pro saw where as the 391 is a farm and ranch saw

I think it’s a step above the stihl and husqvarna farm and ranch saws IMO. Especially for the price. My 20” Stihl 391 melts through logs th-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 but I find myself grabbing this Oregon more because it’s quit and theirs no engine maintenance. You still need to maintain the chain and bar though. It cuts great even though it doesn’t have the power or weight of a gas saw, and the bucking spikes work really well, almost too well actually. I actually burnt up the motor on my first one using the bucking spikes. I pushed it too much through cottonwood, but I liked it enough to buy a second one. I make sure not to get the motor too hot now and it’s been running great. It’s still heavy enough with enough power to melt through most cuts too. When it stops cutting so well make sure there aren’t wood chips stuck in the chain and don’t let the chips clog the saw. Remember when you see sawdust instead of chips it’s time to sharpen the chain. I tried the self sharpening, I didn’t think it worked that well. I like that when you let go of the trigger the chain stops almost immediately. It’s tool less adjustment and bar removal is a snap. Like all saws they leak bar oil, so don’t store it full, and open the cap just a little to prevent pressure from ambient temperature changes. I store it on a piece of cardboard on a tote lid to contain any mess. Make sure you get some bar oil with the saw, it comes with just enough for you to start cutting but run out before you’re finished with whatever you’re cutting.

      @@RockhillfarmYT yep it is a compression release button therefore it lets some compression bleed out through the button making it easier to pull and the engine rolls over faster also saves a lot of wear and tear on your recoil. You will also notice some people slowly pull the recoil rope out about 2 in when they shut the saw off that is because when the engine quits oftentimes it rolls backwards and slams into the recoil which also prematurely wears out the recoil especially on certain plastic recoil designs.
