  • Upgrading my Stihls with two more Stihls to add to the mix. I have good luck with Stihl chain saws so I didn't have to decide on what brand to get. Just which models. The MS 391will be for cutting up my larger trees which occasionally happens do to mother nature. The MS 261 C will be a relief saw to use to help extend the years on my older MS290 , which runs great by the way. The MS 250 has been a great delimb saw I use and cut up to 10 inch or so rounds. Even though it could and has cut a lot larger. Got to love a Stihl !

    Why 391 over 362c? 362 is a lot lighter and more power!

    • @ladwiss
      @ladwiss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I just added these two to my MS250 and MS 290 which I use every year for my personal fire wood. I plan on only using the 391 for any big tree bases that blow down and if I decide to go cut off my land I would have a larger saw to go after the bigger wood if I see some. That's all. I do have a few stumps now that I will use the 391 pretty soon on. I had just bought the 391 and decided to go get the MS 261 just because I wanted it too

    • @user-nh3gu1ge3d
      @user-nh3gu1ge3d 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 391 is almost exactly comparable (in price) to the 261c. Both around 575-600 bucks (in the US). The 362 is considerably more expensive, about 50% more than both. It is a great comparison, you can get the 261c pro level saw, which is higher end but lighter and smaller engine, or you can get something a little bigger but lighter on the features.

    • @slimgrowden
      @slimgrowden 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The 362 is less powerful than the 391! The 391 is right at 600$. You pay way more if you just do some little upgrades with the 391 you would have more power with a cheaper saw. No it’s not a pro saw yes they are build a little tougher and better but two me not worth the extra cost when they are so close in power weight and size! The Husqvarna 372/ or Stihl 044 have some of the best power two weight ratio for the price the don’t weigh that much more either. They have been making them for so long you can find them used for a fair prices if you do some hunting. With a little bit of porting work you can have a screaming saw for not that much investment! Compared to a brand new saw of close to the same power! But some time you have to work with what you have and I have been there! The big pro saw are definitely more expensive but they also save a lot of time as well it just depends on your application.

    • @user-nh3gu1ge3d
      @user-nh3gu1ge3d 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@slimgrowden Incorrect, Scott. The 391 engine is BIGGER than the 362 c but it is NOT more powerful. It is less powerful, in fact.
      The 362c engine displacement is smaller (59cc 3.6 cu. in.) vs the larger 391 engine (64.1 cc 3.9 cu. in.). The 362 c is MORE powerful, though, producing 3.5 kw 4.69 bhp vs the less powerful 391 which produces "only" 3.3 kw or 4.4 bhp). (Numbers sourced straight from stihlusa dot com, btw)
      The 391 is also heavier than the 362 c by about a half pound, with a less powerful engine. 5.6 or 6 kg for the 362 depending on config, vs the 6.2 kg 391. So 12.35 - 13.2 lbs for the 362c vs 13.67 lbs for the 391. Also, the 362c is METAL cased, while the 391 is plastic (and still heavier). The 362c is CLEARLY a better saw in ALL aspects, except for price of course. Now, is it close? Yeah, it's pretty close. You'd notice a pound and a half, but probably wouldn't much notice a half pound. You probably wouldn't much notice an extra .3 horse power, either.
      For a home owner who uses only occasionally, sure, go with the 391, and if budget is an issue. For any serious user though, I think the 362c is a NO BRAINER. It has all the pro features that the "home owner" saws typically do not have for example:
      Metal casing vs plastic
      Better air filter
      mtronic system
      elasto start (pull rope)
      captive nuts
      decomp
      and on and on
      I am not 100% certain what features the 391 has, so it may share some of the "upgrades" but generally speaking, the "pro" saws are much better. Unless you really can't afford it, aren't going to use it much, the pro saws are a no brainer to me. Here's a very in depth forum post about it, if you are interested.
      www.arboristsite.com/community/threads/ms-362-vs-ms-391.133550/
      Btw, I do not own either of these saws. I own the 261c (after owning a series of Husky "home owner" grade lowes saws) and I can tell you the pro Stihl is a beast and I'm VERY happy with it. I haven't had the 261c for THAT long, so my opinion may change but so far, I am very pleased. It's very powerful, very reliable, and it starts very easily. I like the mtronic system. Just push the decompression button, set it to on, pull the rope once or twice and you're in business. Some of the husky saws were not so simple to start. I was always working on one thing or another to fix them. Either the chain came loose, or the engine wouldn't start, or it would die out if not throttled, or whatever. The stihl is just.....reliable. I hope it continues to be the case. Anyway, good luck.

      @@user-nh3gu1ge3d you can create more power out of the 391 then you can 362 it has a bigger motor. Yes the difference between pro saw vs farm and ranch saw are plastic vs Metal the pro saw are a better built saw! But you can get more for your money with the 391 it cheaper but with a little upgrades some porting done. And you have a strong little saw that’s not that expensive with plenty of power if it is the saw size you are looking for. There isn’t enough gain in between these two saws to pay more for a saw with a small motor.
