- Honda CB750 Cafe Racer Frame Strip Down & Welding Repairs [Custom Motorcycle Frame Hoop] 06
In this cafe racer build episode, I strip everything off the frame of my CB750 Cafe Racer project bike and do a little welding to get it ready for painting.
Here's what we used in this video:
Clarke Weld MIG 150 TE Turbo: ebay.us/jbdfE8 (this is the newer version)
0.8 Welding Wire: ebay.us/eQWqWx
Argon/CO2 Welding Gas & Regulator: ebay.us/7BOngD
Angle Grinder Wire Brushes: ebay.us/sSJjtM
Dewalt Angle Grinder: ebay.us/CmsNuW
Safety Goggles: ebay.us/2Dvt5C
This motorcycle frame has had a lot of work done to it already. It has a cafe racer hoop welded to the frame rails at the back, and a number of brackets including the rear footrest hangers have been cut off. It also has had a few brackets welded on, for the rear brake, seat and rear sets.
I was planning to have it powder coated, but I also want to get it together as a running bike quickly as well. With the changes that have been made, and the fact that I may need further brackets, or maybe a change to the rear hoop, I don’t want to spend the money on powder coating and then have to remove some of it to make the changes.
So I have decided to paint it with 2k gloss black first so that it looks presentable when I get it back together. Then if I need to make changes it will be easier to refinish, and concern about damaging the finish will influence any future decisions.
Before I paint it, it also needed some of the welding improving, so young SpannrRash but his new E30 honed skills to work. I will prepare it and use a bit of filler to improve it, but that will be in a future video.

I agree with you on painting the frame with a good quality paint. If you get any scratches later on you can touch them up easily. Great video. Nice watching your progress!
100%, cheers mate 😁
Nice job. I'm just in middle of Frame modification and Got some ideas from you!
Glad that you have found it useful. I can't wait to get and engine back in the frame :)
Got my own cb750 stripped. painted and polished ready for reassembly so watching this with great interest.
Cafe or standard? If you look at our back catalogue we have played with a couple of standard ones. Hope we can keep your interest.
@@SPANNERRASH A few parts missing/non standard so will go cafe racer. On hold at the moment as working on my newly acquired cbr900rr
@@duncanbiscuit1226 Ahh sounds like a great excuse to me then! 😄 And great choice regarding the CBR900RR, you've got a very similar collection going there.
Always look forward to your relaxing uploads. Nice and steady. Gonna be great no doubt.
Thanks mate, plodding along with the project, excited to see how things develop with this cafe racer.
Keep it going, lookin 👌
Thanks, will do!
Liked 💯👍
Thanks 💯 Hope you like the next one too ;)
Spannerr where are you from ?!
I'm a genuine Mancunian, born and brought up in Manchester. But now I live in East Yorkshire.
From experience,I’d say a 2pack finish will be a better way forward,I had my kettle frame powder coated & every threaded part needed cleaning & more cleaning to accept nuts, bolts & indicators, looking forward to seeing this building
Thanks for the tip. I hadn't thought about the threads and things, so another good reason to paint rather than powder coat.
@@SPANNERRASH don’t get me wrong, the powder coat looks amazing, but as I said, next time it’ll be a 2pack finish to save probably half a day’s work cleaning & tapping out threads,
