    In this video, I cleaned up the rusted chrome wheels, painted them, replaced the wheel bearings, brake shoes, rim strips, tubes and tires. A motorcycles wheels/tires are the one thing that connect you and your bike to the road, so they are very important! That is why I replaced everything to make them like new.
    Give it a watch! It's good fun.

    Hey man. I enjoy watching your builds especially on a budget. Saying that before I spent the money on a ultra sonic cleaner I use to use a deep fryer. Seriously… hit a thrift store you can pick them up for under $20 then use what ever cleaning product you prefer just be mindful of the flashpoint of the chemical. It’s saves so much elbow time on projects. Works fantastic on carbs and other small parts. Hope this helps.

    Well-done m8 on a great budget way to do it and you can allso have got them powder coated after you cleaned and wire brush them u need to find a local powder coating place it would make alot of your stuff look cool and it's cheap if u do the prep work keep it up from new Zealand supporters 👍

    Looks much better! Dry baby powder works well on the tube/tire when mounting if you want to keep things dry. When ya got em off always good habit to put them on a stand ... true em up and balance them. On spoke rims you can use solder around the spoke as your wheel weight. Keep it up ! 🤙

    Hey Goldguy nice videos from you.
    Nice work, the wheels have been neatly restored.
    Putting your tires back on your freshly painted rims can cause scratches.
    With some playing cards clamped between your rim and tire you can always touch up the spots.
    I also fix up motorbikes but never make a movie out of it maybe a good idea.

    Great work. Respect for your patience removing all that rust. This Kenda tire is a good choice. Drove it myself. It´s good on the street and off road as well. Btw: It couldn´t harm checking ballance before installation. But probably you know that.

    Next time you want to remove rust from any metal part, try this.
    go to the hardware store and buy some deck and fence cleaner with oxilic acid in it. Mix up a batch in a plastic tub, drop the parts in it and let it soak for a day or two. Ive been restoring classic BMX bikes for years and this trick gets rid of the rust without any of the labor.
    it would have eaten away the rust on those spokes. Scuff, tack cloth and paint.

    • @CravingClassics
      @CravingClassics 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @kubakubiczek

      Rinse with water afterwards and dry it off. Put a fan on it if needed and get it into primer if you are going to paint and if it's chrome, dey it off and give it a good polish so it will shine.
      It can't being back chrome that has been eaten away but it removes the surface rust perfectly without all the tedious work.

    Nice work restoring the rims...hopefully the paint will last. I also noticed you didn't balance the tire, nor lined up the white dot on the tire (lowest weight point) with the valve-stem. Probably not the biggest deal, but could be significant. Hard to tell.

    • @martinkupka3575
      @martinkupka3575 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not ballancing front tire can be really fatal at fast bikes (don´t ask how I know). But with a smaller dual sport bike I would not expect trouble. However, I would at least check, if the wheels are too much out of ballance. May be he´ll do it before installing wheels.

    Golden Tip For The Gold Guy, if you lay the tireside in the middle groove of the rim (with some force applied, you dont need to use 4 big screwdrivers to get him of. Then he almost comes of from his self, and not risking to damage the inner tube, if you want to reuse that one. when that side is done you pull the inner tube and the other side of the tire comes off on the same side without any help, that groove is designed for that reason.

    Wow... I've never seen anyone put the tube on before fitting one side of the tyre onto the rim first. Or use tyre levers to fit the other side of the tyre on the rim. That's what rubber hammers are for. I was surprised to see that the hubs were painted. Earlier models were of aluminium that you could polish, just like the forks. Things are looking good ! ( binge watching here )

    Just a suggestion, when painting over chrome , if you don't use an adhesion promoter the paint will eventually chip and peel.

  • @jonasjegorovas7061
    @jonasjegorovas7061 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What I did to remove rust from chrome was the trick with coca cola, but instead using that I bought pack of citric acid, mixed with water and left all my chrome parts for a week there (some of them more some of them less, depends how much rusted they were at the beginning) After that rinsed everything with clean warm water. It is the most cheapest way and you save ton of elbow grease.

    This is not the easy way. This is the lazy, half-cocked way. Those wheels should have been properly re-chromed, re-spoked with fresh stainless steel spokes. Do a proper job. Now they are just a "silver" like colour, not chrome.
