Best option for wireless controllers is the 8bitdo retro receiver for the ps1/ps2 (it’s about $20 on ebay). It’s a quality product and I’ve been playing PS1 & PS2 games with my PS5 controller recently. Works perfectly!
Blue Retro Core is an amazing accessory for the PS2. For about $15 in total you can use two wireless controllers at the same time for Player 1 and Player 2. PS3,4,5, Xbox One, Series X controllers and more. I like using the PS3 controller as it has pressure sensitive buttons like the PS2, but you can use any of those and no longer have to worry about wires.
My silver PS2 slim still works after all these years so does my PS2 fat model I bought on launch. Years ago I bought a clear shell for it so my fat PS2 is actually clear. Super grateful they both still work to this day they're both in amazing condition. I use HD retrovision component cables when I play on them 🙂
playing on an original ps2 with a crt is unbeatable but there have been some cool innovations in the emulation space. certain games like jak and daxter have been decompiled so they can run natively on pc if you have a copy of the iso. the original ps3 also has backwards compatibility with ps2 (though this was removed from later models) which is much easier to hook up to modern displays if you already have one laying around
Another option for PS2 on a modern TV is getting an OG backwards compatible PlayStation 3, they can be a bit pricey these days, I lucked out and got one for only $90 quite a few years ago, I understand now they can be a couple of hundred bucks, however they have native HDMI out and can do image smoothing to make the games look nice on a modern HDTV.
Just buy TCL because the TV is still supported I have the 2024 TCL mini LED and it works great with the PS2 and also it works.with Nintendo Wii and the picture looks insanely good. Especially for these console that came out along time ago.
Not true I have a Panasonic TAU 4:3 HD CRT with HDMI and all my light gun games work. Even time crisis 2 shows HD mode at title screen after booting via component.
My AV-Receiver has Component-In and optical-in and works as Converter to the TV. PS2 fat with FreeMcBoot and 1TB hard drive. I think that‘s the best way.
i use a GBS-C on my modern flatscreen. It gets rid of input lag and it even let's me use a CRT filter for PS1 240p games. I also would rec not cheaping out on cables, I used some cheap component cables that had horrible interference. I switched to HD retrovision cables and have had zero issues. Dualshock 2 is a must, especially bc of pressure sensitive buttons.
I'd say the best way is the original way. Play on a CRT. I'm not saying playing on modern TV doesn't look good. It looks great. Personal I do both, but my preferred way to play retro games is a CRT.
I haven't touched a gaming console in a while. The last game I played was GTA 3 on a fat PS2. Social media and the internet destroyed my gaming passion.
Hi Brian, im sorry but i do have to correct you on this one. Since its a common misconseption that it doesnt work on flatsceen CRT. I have 32" widescreen flatscreen CRT 100Hz and Time crisis 2 and 3 works just fine, since the guncon 2 config screen to has a 100hz mode.
I feel the need to bring up the fact that most copies of God of War 2 won't run on a PS2 slim model. I bought two copies of God of War 2 back in the day; and neither of them would run on the slim model. Once I got an original fat model PS2; both copies ran perfectly.
Best way to play is component cable i buy one when my hdmi broke on my ps3 .Try on ps2 and work like a charm most of games 480i but some games like soul calibur and grand turismo 4 suport 1080i . If you got 3k £ samsung tv upscale any game from 480i to 2k with perfect picture quality
not analog ps2 can output hd resolutions natively supports 1080i (Gran turismo 4,Valkyrie Profile 2,Jack ass the movie,Tourist Trophy) with custom mods it can upscale up to 1440p resolution
Just a 21x ps2s most of them are with new lasers ribon cables power buttons fans pads thermals and modchiped mobo 4.0 infinity 99 and others all been cleaned inside out . There a thermal C° app for ps2 . My ps2 never ever overheat stand at 56c for pads 17 yo old . Im gonna upgrade sony pads to Gelid ultimate / extreme . I got components way better with that it got the pixel blur old av on hdmi tvs way cleaner with components and got bluetooth i play with dualshock 4 or xbox on ps2 and use fmcb / hdd extrenal or internal . Love ps2 and ps3

does it have component inputs
Playing PS2 on CRT is very good , but PCSX2 on Vulkan with native resolution and a CRT royal shader is very very close to a Ps2 on CRT .
Light guns work on flat screen CRT’s as long as they aren’t hdmi CRT’s
