Some of the best games of all time for sure. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Zone of The Enders, Zone of The Enders 2: The 2nd Runner, Tekken 4, Hitman 2, Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven, Shinobi, and so on, and so on… Too many to list. Truly a great era.
I hooked up my PS2 which had been dormant for over ten years. It turned on flawlessly. No network update nonsense. Just loaded a disc and good to go! Love it!
I don't have a lot of space, so I pretty much build an emulation station out of my old PC and backed up as many games from different consoles (PS2/XBox etc.) as possible. And it's just insane not only going back but actually realizing just how many damn games from different time lines fit on one 512gb device... Kinda makes you wonder how some games nowadays can be 50gb in size but have a story that's maybe 5h long with only 7 different levels while not even offering real high end graphics.. It also made me buy a handheld for the specific reason as to playing PS2 games emulated on the go.. and damn do they run good on a handheld nowadays although the battery life isn't gonna last that long and your hands are melting after an hour of play. Coming back around to playing those old games really is a breath of fresh air sometimes, especially when we get ever closer to being able to actually properly play them on the go.

I still play my PS2 also, I've never stopped and it's never been unplugged. There was so much variety and content within games which we just don't get anymore. These days 90% of games feel copy pasted and stale, like I've already played the game 10 times. On the PS2 everything is different, developers weren't afraid to try new things or be a little different, that's one of the things that makes the PS2 era so great. It just never gets old.
@@obidahasdia4095Nice. I did same thing with PS1 a little while back, and grabbed bunch of classics I loved back then.. Moving on to PS2 now. I have console, but it's little beat up, still plays though.. Just need PS3 and I'll have all consoles lol.. You gotta love it

@inferno8008 and I hate it lol, California in the early 90s had a smog and pollution problem and it actually looked like the ps2 version. The pc version is too cold and you know why is that? The emotion engine of the ps2 was very difficult to replicate so Rockstar itself couldn't replicate their filter and style and the timecyc file was messed up. If you like it good but the oranfe sky haze for me is irreplaceable and in fact modders managed to port the effect with the mod SkyGFX and that is a must have for me
The PlayStation 2 is the one system I never stopped playing. The damn thing pretty much saved my life as a kid. I'm still playing new games on it. Playing through Red Faction at the moment. It's pretty fun. If you happen to have an older CRT with component inputs, HDRetrovision makes an amazing set of cables. I highly recommend them. Glad to see I'm not the only one playing older Sony consoles in 2024.
I’m using the LevelHike HDMI adapter upscaling to 720p. Then into the Mclassic adapter, doing a nice antialiasing and then upscaling it all the way up to 1440P on a AOC 32” curve monitor… Looks great 😎.
Jerking off his crt and added cable talk on top of it, so many of these people lol. If you have the console, a game and a way to view it, that's enough.
That's why I don't play games today anymore only a few I'm actually lately playing obscure in hd with a blue tooth controller on my new phone I'm amazed how even games looked better back then more details in the models nowadays they look like a.i. with doll hair and it's disgusting how company's fool people today and they fall for it!!!! Ps2 has great games still
Bro not only ps2 but also gamecube, dreamcast, n64, xbox. Im emulating all those and i can totally agree. Its amazing emulation nowadays. So many games its mindblowing. On 1 drive. Great video thx. Nice to know i aint crazy.
I am a fossil of 44 years and have been gaming since 1985 when I was 5, and I have to say without a shadow of a doubt that the PS2 is my favorite console of all time. I still to this day play PS2 games with an emulator on my PC as to preserve my console. Many great memories I have had gaming on it. Also the fact that it was backwards compatible with the PS1 meant I could still play my two favorite games of that era. Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. Anyway great video.
personally, big pros of emulator is save/load states. I don't want to use cheat but i don't want to replay all parts of long mission. I just want to replay from part 2 or part 3 of that long mission.
It's simple: old games are from a time where offline gaming was the norm, so games had to be good on release. Devs couldnt afford to be lazy and release half finihsed games and make you wait ages for patches. Im thankful I could experience the golden age of video games.

@@robertbell1804 I realized lately there's so much I haven't tried yet either and I'm glad I'm actually taking the time to buy some and try them out. Truly an excellent era. Many games that come out these days are just rehashed shit while there was so much variety back then. For me it's been mostly old games and new indie games these days. Last I touched my PS5 I think was in November and I was playing an indie title. I used to play lots of Online on some triple A titles until they increased the price for online subscriptions.
PS2 is the last gen of gaming i was into before i kind of left the scene behind. But since getting back into retro gaming i find myself playing a lot of PS2 and I've been finding gem after gem for this system. Games i had forgotten about and now I'm playing them everyday. My PS2 collection has tripled in the past 2 months
Me and my brother used to play on ps2 a lot. And I feel like no matter what and how great looking new game is released. It feels different now. As adult I can't enjoy games I used to do when I was in middle school. Don¨t get me wrong. I still love many games that were released recently. But not that much fun just because I have other tthings on my mind and it's hard to just switch off from the reality. Those times when we used to start a game every single day from the beginning becasue we had no memeory card for some time were awesome and we just did not mind. Tekken 5, NHL 18, The Matrix: Path of Neo, Pirates of Caribbean Legend of Jack Sparrow in coop... But also some of my favourites gems I had to replay recently like Dark Cloud and Dark Chronicles. Those games are gems! And it's hard to believe those games were released in 2000 in Japan and 2001 in the Europ. I know it took a lot from Zelda. But damn... music in this game hits different. Gameplay, crafting, everything is so god damn perfect. And I know there is way more games on ps2 like these. But I would choose Dark Cloud over anything. Even after years I loved every second of it. Don't forget some gems like God of War too. Yeah... old good times! I also would recomend a game called Trapt. Not many people knows about this game. But it's unique. And the story telling is good.
Its nice knowing there are others like me out there still enjoying these older systems because if i didn't go back to playing my PS2/3 and GameCube 1-2 years ago I honestly would've retired from gaming. It really reminded me why I fell in love with gaming in the 1st place
This was a civilized era it felt...PS2, XBOX, GameCube, even DreamCast...they all existed together and we loved it. The internet hadn't really blown up yet and you still had cheat codes you had to get from a magazine or had to unlock something through hard work...
@@CragusMaximus Agreed, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Power Stone, Sonic Adventure 2, Jet Set Radio, Illbleed, and D2 are all great but yeah... limited library for sure.
I just bought the PS2 a few days ago. And I am playing it a lot lately. I used to have one as a kid. Now I can enjoy playing it again. The PS2 is that one console that will never die. So glad a lot of people are still playing it in 2024.

1996 from the release of playstation 1, to Nintendo 64 to the end of the Playstation 2 life cycle in 2006 was really a golden decade of gaming that could make you a shut in your basement 24/7. great times
The PS2 Emulator on the PC is a godsend, get to upscale the resolution up to 8k res removing the pixilation completely, 60 fps patches, and HD texture replacements the community has made, almost like small remasters that you can do, extreme nostalgia in HD haha.
There's plenty of youtube tutorials you can watch and some provide links in the description of what you need to get it set up, most emulators are pretty dependent on your PC's hardware I don't think the PS2 one has very high requirements, and not all of the games work flawlessly, but I'd def give it a few more tries, you can actually download the entire library of PS2 Games online(google ps2 iso) without needing a CD player but you can also just pop in your PS2 disc and the emulator will pick it up, all the emulator needs is a BIOS and you can get one online for e.g, the one I use is PCSX2, if you follow a tutorial to get PCSX2 to the tee you should be good to go in no time, goodluck! @@_Prebound
ps2 was the last generation before updates. if you buy a ps2 game, you just shove it in there and play it. there is also no patching songs out of a game because the license ran out! plus this is the generation where 3d graphics started to mature gone were the days of eye less mannequins and triangle boobs. its just in that technological advancement to ease of production sweet spot. the ps1 era was still figuring things out and by the ps3, you would need a sizable team working for years to make a decent looking game. i really need to get myself one. ive never owned one but ive played it and made memories on it at other peoples places.
Also been collecting PS2 titles. Great to relive these memories and many of these experiences are much more satisfying to play them a lot of games today.
Silent hill , resident evil, fatal frame, smackdown vs raw, need for speed, splinter cell, metal gear, twisted metal, rayman, sims, hit and run, bully, tekken, jak and darter, Licensed music in majority games with amazing sound tracks
I finished Elden Ring and I'm currently playing ps1/ps2 games because 1) I haven't updated my pc 2) there are still many amazing games waiting to be discovered. So many great games that could never be replicated back when graphics weren't the only selling point, lots of weird and experimental things were done.
@timthomas598 yeah I'm glad I did I was thinking about it for a while and hopefully it lasts long but it's already worth it to me I've been adding all my favorite ps games I'm probably gonna have to get an external and I like that all the games don't take up as much space by a Longshot and ps3 online is free
9:05 - YES! A thing I love about games from this gen was that patches and DLC wasn't a thing. Developers had to make a good game that was good literally start to finish. That's really missing these days.
@@Dragonfury3000 I grew up with video games when they were just starting to become a thing, so I like to play a mixture of old and new, across many platforms etc. I think I'll be playing video games well into my elderly years, lol.
The PS2 was pretty much revolutionary, my favorite PS2 game is MGS2. The MGS franchise was really the reason why I stuck with the Playstation consoles up to PS4, now I'm playing PC, but if I had a PS1 & 2 I would definitely play it.
I sold all my physical games recently to minimalise life and be more mindful about the items I own during my existence. I cannot bring myself to get rid of my PS2 games and PSP games. That era of gaming was so special.
@@CragusMaximusI highly recommend it! I'm not into the minmalist aesthetic at all, I like old stuff and that kind of stuff is often overly detailed/decorated generally speaking. But in terms of owning less stuff, every thing I get rid of is like a little thing off my mind and it all adds up until I feel like I've taken a huge weight off. I aim for that kind of old style living, having little quantity of very nice quality stuff. Feels like I have a clearer head.
Brings back old memories I love my PlayStation 2 i’m an old-school gamer my Sega, my Sega CD my Atari. I love the video games. The new ones suck like they can’t remember a time when you bought a game on disk and everything you needed was on the desk you didn’t need patches updates great time.
Lately I've went back to NFS Most Wanted, GTA San Andreas, and Tiger Woods 2005. All three of them are still super fun. I can see myself playing them again in another 10 years and enjoying them just as much.
Honestly I wanna get a ps3 again just to play the legendary titles not ported next gen. I miss screwin around in SKATE 3 and I never got to play MGS4 and I kick my 14 y/o self in the a$$ for not searching for it when I had the time. Even PS2 I miss for the games like SOCOM and Sly Cooper. It was a good time to be alive man
My PS2 gets a decent runout each year, mostly to play Black, NFS underground and my day one save of FFX.. it’s a timeless console that holds a place in my heart as it’s the one me and my brother shared growing up
Hey, millions of us are still playing nes and Gameboy games. It's good to take a break and visit ones retrospective days. Mentally very relaxed and joyful.
your comments around 8:40 about enjoying the games more now is very relatable. games i enjoyed as a lad now strictly for gameplay, nowadays i find myself enjoying the gameplay with rose-tinted glasses but it almost feels like experiencing the story for the first time. even with games i'd beaten as a lad, now that i'm not skipping every cutscene n shit they actually make sense
😂 Completely agree with you bro, i recently bought a fat ps2 for 20 bucks and a vice city stories. Damn that was probably my best gaming experience of 2024.
At one point I owned 8 consoles and around 300 games. I didn't even consider myself a collector, I was simply interested in playing all kinds of games. Over time my interests changed, and gaming has become a rare activity. So I'm slowly selling all my stuff and have disconnected every console except for the PS2. That thing is still plugged in and ready to play. It's the only thing that's gonna stay with me from my gaming years. All my personal favorite games are on it and don't feel the desire to play whatever is coming out today. Was playing Ico this morning and forgot how immersive and compelling that game was that I'm gonna go ahead and play through it again.
Man, there's something so refreshing about sitting down to focus on playing an old game, and not worrying about internet, updates, or DLC. Check out the Armored Core series on PS2; it's kind of a 3rd-person action/arcadey-mech sim.
a good benefit of the steam deck or the modern handhelds is that you can go back and play ps2 games and some that you may have never owned and lastly the games are more amazing than what game are today
I'm currently trying to get physical media for PS2 game, because there have been MANY games I never got the chance to play back in the day. I got TimeSplitters 2 for PS2 and I had fun playing the game. But over all PS2 has so many games, that it's pretty difficult to remember them all and it can be pretty hard to get them on physical media, since some PS2 games have gotten way too expensive, but I'm still trying to get as many as I can, so I could have a good time and maybe once I have kids of my own, I would introduce them to gaming that I grew up with.

Just the other day a friend told me how he bought a small random old console lot of parts and spares and was held up at customs later he had to pay big money for the import fees and other things so he was joking about it how he finally got the package but had to sell a kidney to pay for it XD It honestly feels like that when you pay for an item basically next to nothing while everything else related to it is expensive. PS2 was peak gaming if you ask me. Not only was it a massive jump in graphics and engine capabilities but so many great games came from it and still continuing the storyline today. Even some copies getting modern day remakes. So many new ideas were being tested and almost every title felt like it was a platinum hit or "Greatest Hit". It had this magical aura that compelled anyone to turn it on. Even people I knew that hated video games had something they would play on the PS2. The replayability for most PS2 titles for me is significantly higher than most modern campaigns. I'm not sure if it's biased opinion but I believe it's in nature of lack of multiplayer having them focus on a more captivating single-player experience
Man, I miss the PS2 days. The PS2's library is packed with great titles, many of which have gone on to spawn successful franchises, and most of those are still around today. I haven't played PS2 since my unit died in late 2007. A few years later I sold some games and my entire collection of demo discs but I kept a handful of games in case one day I get another PS2. The PS2 is a cultural thing in Brazil, it was so famous Sony decided to officially launch it there in 2009, nine years after it's debut.
COME TO BRASIL
I think is most in all latin america. Piracy was the key of success.
A lot of folk had a ps2 in brasil since the rest of the world lol, you just bought it overseas
That nice to know
I still play my PS2 also, I've never stopped and it's never been unplugged.
Ps2 was freaking awesome
Same I'm still playing my ps2 the wrestling games, RPGs and racing games were incredible
Game devs take so much features out of games. From older titles it’s ridiculous. I had a Xbox and ps2

That orange atmosphere in GTA SA on PS2. 👌
Early 2000s Filter.
For me I prefer the pc atmosphere 🤔
@inferno8008 and I hate it lol, California in the early 90s had a smog and pollution problem and it actually looked like the ps2 version. The pc version is too cold and you know why is that? The emotion engine of the ps2 was very difficult to replicate so Rockstar itself couldn't replicate their filter and style and the timecyc file was messed up.
If you like it good but the oranfe sky haze for me is irreplaceable and in fact modders managed to port the effect with the mod SkyGFX and that is a must have for me
I’ve owned every version of GTA SA and Original Xbox is by far the best version imo.

Ps2 has great games still
Its very satisfying to see your physical collection of games in immaculate glossy condition.
If you ever want the real thing again (or need to) highly recommend softmodding PS2, will keep your drive alive + load quicker.

personally, big pros of emulator is save/load states.

Get a Quest 3. It is truely an upgrade from limited flatscreen. Early playstation 1/2 is great but lack modern tech of today

I am both jealous and envious of you. Could never figure out any emulators for consoles that required CD-Rom.

At one point I owned 8 consoles and around 300 games. I didn't even consider myself a collector, I was simply interested in playing all kinds of games. Over time my interests changed, and gaming has become a rare activity. So I'm slowly selling all my stuff and have disconnected every console except for the PS2. I managed to hold psp and ps2 with some games, but 1 year ago i unfortunatelly decided to sell all psp games and the cosnolle.
But managing to save the ps2 with few games somehow i will never sell it and its a shame that the only 2 gems i kept are gta san andreas and dragon ball z budokai tenkaichi 2.
I wish i could travel to the past and buy more ps2 new games sealed and not buying used games nowadays where you are likely to be scammed cause disks are barely readable and also i wouldnt sell any old games or consolle to buy newer ones if i had the chance to time travel
Can't wait for playing PS1 in 2024 and here is why😆 No srsly I enjoy that stuff😃
Same! And so much for people (especially trolls) who tell me i'm "stuck in the past" 😂 just because someone still plays PS2 in 2024 and so much for idiots telling me "That's sad" just because i simply said "I still play PS2 all the time. 🤦♂️"
Oh you want sad, Go crying to your mommy about it you crybabies.
And this is why i say fuck modern gaming, fuck the modern world, fuck the soulless corporate mindset of the modern internet, fuck PS5's and so on and i'm glad i destroyed my copies of WWE 2K by lighting them on fire. PS2 4 life baby!
Reasons why i'll always play PS2 and will NEVER EVER move on to PS5 for so many reasons and oh god i can go on and write a book about on how i like PS2 better than modern consoles and how my PS4 caused me so much trouble with crashing, having to delete shit just to free up space and so on, 1. The games start quickly and don't crash to the home screen ever.
2. The console itself boots in a matter of seconds, the whole experience is just great.
3. No system updates that break shit, no buggy OS, no buggy games like the 2K garbage, it just works.
4. And the damn thing only had around 40 MB of memory, yet it still works better than its newer counterparts.
5. No dumbass microtransactions
6. No toxic online people
7. Having GTA games that actually treat you right and doesn't have overly-sensitive NPC's that call the cops for every single little thing/mistake you do like in GTA 5 and so on.
I’m 46, bro you don’t have idea. 100% agree with you, love your video.
My brother has my old PlayStation 2 Slim and I bought another one several years ago so I could have it to myself. Good times.
My fan just quit working on mine and I'm a little upset about it. I have a nice dynasty going on ncaa football 2005. I also still enjoy rockband
@@MansaX see if there are some tutorials to either fix or replace the fan my dude, ya gotta bring her back to life 👌
@@XV-IV good idea 💡 thanks 💪🏽
@@MansaXif not you can buy used fans for cheap, 19 years on and it’s still going strong
Still playing PS2 games. Recently finished Tales of Abyss, Tales of Legendia, Onimusha Warlords, Xenosaga Trilogy, Forbidden Siren and now started Dragon Quest 8. So many good games to play still in the backlog.
Need For Speed was never the same after NFSMW 05'. NFS Carbon on PS3 was alright though.
Also Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk were classics the best Tony Hawk games being in that era.
I have been playing a ton of my old favorites on my Steam Deck through Emulation.
Don't need to justify your own gaming hobbies to others, play whatever you want.
Ahh man! I agreeWith you 100 percent! Thanks for sharing this great video!
PS2 is still the best console ever.
I have started selling retro games & consoles and PS2 is one of my favorites! You are definitely not the only one still playing this 😁
Prince of Persia
Gran Turismo 4 is the game to get for the PS2, tens and tens of hours of fun with visuals that even today hold up.
I got the backwards compatible PS3 or how I like to call it the PS Triple and it's a dream amigo, a dream.
The A model PS3. The Cadillac of PS3s.
@@verbalkint1770not that one. Mine is the cechc/e model, not as legendary as the a but more reliable and its PS2 image is a bit sharper which makes it the best imo
I was devastated when mine crapped out a few years back. I even tried to get it repaired at a cell phone repair shop and it worked for like 10 minutes. Had to throw it out.
Yeah, I have the 80gb Fat PS3 model. It's great because you can play three generations of PS games on it, and it doubles down as a cheaper blu-ray player. LOL.
I love that I can play any PS2 game on my phone on the go, in the bed, anywhere. Even at 2x or 4x the resolution. What a time to be alive.
Bro, I feel like I need to send you billions of dollars to help you fight Russia.
Uh we already did. Can we just leave politics out of gaming?
🤣🤣 joke flew over my boy knuckles
@@bobacota3390he did not know da wae
Fucking spot on and hilarious
No DLC, no updates, youu just had a game to play at the instant. Something that I had some issues with when I moved to the PS3 GEN
Lovely video!! I really like how u have the game boxes and clips of the game.
I still have ps2 and enjoyed playing bully and 007 quantum solace again. As a kid i loved NFS Hot Pursuit 2
New to the channel - and sir, Your eyes. You have seen some things, or you’re not sleeping enough. But I’m praying for you man.
He lives in a basement of course he's not getting enough sleep
Seeing the thumbnail where Pee-Wee is going to talk about the best console ever: insta clicked. Good content and nostalgia!
I just can't let go of MGS2, MGS3: Subsistence, Tekken Tag Tournament, ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. Great games, all of them.
Loved this video! Its fun and relaxing watching you talk about these old games. The simple things back then are still relevant to this day.
