Started two armies with my son in late 9th, but barely played and got bogged down in rules. Studied up on the 10th rules, played a couple games and so far really like it.

Thought I'd compile some mistakes I spotted to try help you guys as it looked like Joe could use a little help, hopefully they read this -The two ordinance are one unit and so stay together -Orders are your army rule, they don't cost a command point. At the top of your turn (command phase) pick a unit within 6" of Karsk and give it either +1 to hit, +1 to save or +3" to move. Can order your artillery or sentinel as they have the right keyword -Some weapons have extra rules, listed as keywords next to the name -Blast weapons (like the malleus rocket) get an extra +1 shot per 5 models in the target unit (+2 vs full guardian unit) -Heavy weapons gives you +1 to hit if you didn't move -Cover is +1 to save, but doesn't increase a 3+ save to a 2+ specifically (4+ save -3 for ap but +1 for cover will leave you with a 6+ save) -Rapid fire weapons get the stated number of extra shots if in half range (lasgun is 1 shot at 12"-24", 2 at 0"-12") -Stratagems like 'whip-fast reactions' should be declared before rolling any dice -'Rearm, Reload, Fire' becomes active only if you issue the guns an order from Karsk -Can reroll an attack or a charge once per phase for 1 command point -You can fall back from melee if you don't want your unit to stay there and die -Windriders should have been 1 unit of 6 models Super cool seeing you get play some warhammer, hope to see more. Worth noting that command laurels enhancement for the commander makes the order hit ALL friendly units. Also, the artillery has heavy, so under take aim orders they have a 3+ hit for direct fire.
Couple of quick points as well: - wind riders data card says they can be split into 2 units - the wraithlord doesn't have strands of fate on combat patrol so can't use fate dice, which I think may tone it down significantly
Looks like it doesn't have that keyword in combat patrol though ... The stratagem specifies only a unit with the Cadian Shock Troops keyword which the Sentinel is lacking sadly.
Hey angry joe, made a long time fan since around 2010. You never miss and it's great to see more warhammer content. I got into this hobby around the last year and now with the new edition, I can get my friends more into it onto an even playing field.Hope to see more battle reports as no other does it quite like you. Yeah it looks the like the strategy for Guard is to just leverage the fact you can revive a cadian unit for one cp every turn and overwhelm your enemy.
Always love enjoy seeing your boardgame reviews and plays! I know your setup may not allow it, but for tabletop games it can feel better to have both players standing during the game since I feel (based on other tabletop channels) it can be more dynamic to have the players up and around in the game. The dice overlay you have is very good and something I wish more channels would have. If possible, a basic overlay of everyone’s current victory points would be great visually as well. Or a giant scoreboard / whiteboard in the room where you guys write it down.
Victory points and game information is a great idea! I will look into how to incorporate that next! The whiteboard idea is genius, but maybe i can build it into the templates and do it digitally! Thanks so much!

Also since most people like myself are unfamiliar with the units’ health, rather than count how much damage a unit has taken on a die next to it, it would be more visually clear to have a dice showing the REMAINING health specifically. Ex. 10 health model takes 2 damage so 2 dice are placed to add up to 8 health rather than a die showing 2.

love the idea of the green screen and rolling dice! not a fan of showing dice boxes and rolling dice that cuts from the table and players. Wonderful idea and outstanding game!! Wish GW changed up the alternating turns but still excited about 10th.
Don't worry Joe Guard actually seems pretty balanced overall (for the regular game at least and yes Aeldari is very, very strong), the exception is all the cheap Indirect Fire vehicles, heavy weapons teams, etc. are really good (but might get adressed). Also seems a good time to field a variant of Baneblade.

was a fan of you before I've even heard of 40k, and then my bro introduced me to the Horus Heresy and it all went...haha, I don't know, but I think reading the entire series + a couple hundred other Black Library books were genuinely some of the best time I've had in my life. I love Warhammer! Could probably never play the tabletop game properly here locally, but oh man we're getting soooo many (possibly) amazing 40k video games in the future. Hoping you'll review at least one of them :D

You right about eldar being the best, but Imperial guard is far from being the worst. U got Death Guard and Ad-mech competing for that spot .... then again maybe against eldar everything feels way worse.
Big tip for guard focus on one unit at a time you have stratagems for it, also sacrifice your infantry, you can bring them back, and don’t attach your command squad to your infantry they are too useful to be in the front lines, they give you orders and command points. Always protect your artillery, they are your only damage dealers. You will only be able to fight for objectives. I had my entire army shoot at squad of 5 terminators, with rerolls to hit. Barely killed 3 of them. Your artillery bombardment is a great stratagem you will know when the time is right.
The Wraithlord doesnt actually get Strands of Fate in combat patrol - should make a big difference as that bright lance is a very scary weapon with SoF
Wait a minute how have you missed that Joe does Warhammer? Man, losing the AT-ST, I mean Sentinel, first turn was very unfortunate. With that roll it wouldn't have helped, but keeping it behind cover to keep the save at a 4+ instead of 5+ there might help in future games. Personally, I think I'd keep it back a bit, force the Wraith to move after it and then try to focus it down and force defensive fate dice instead of offensive. Just a guess, I don't play Guard

My combat patrol for the guard is almost done just have to paint my own field ordnance but despite the loss I’m very excited to get my men out to the fight!
The big mistake that skewed the game was that the Wraithlord isn’t allowed to use the Strands of Fate dice. But even if he was rolling the dice, remember that the Armoured Sentinel has the smoke keyword. So when targeted for 1 CP you can give it a Smokescreen. That gives it Stealth (-1 Hit) and Cover (+1 to Saves).
Keep them coming me and my wife just made our first armies to play each other and it’s great to watch y’all help us learn and keeps her excited about it
Expect some adjustments to eldar fate dice in standard 40K and combat patrol. It’s like why even roll to hit or wound and having the same amount of fate dice access as a full 2k army is messed up. Why even roll at all just auto hit and auto wound what you need turn 1 and clean up the stragglers. At least they don’t have the full game detachment reroll 1 hit and 1 wound for each unit, 😬.
I really need to invest in a printer to have the rules available...and a 3D printer. But excited to finally try this out with the horde I accumulated since last year. Poor DeathGuard and Ad-Mech players though. Like...wtf? One cool thing I think I read was there is a more than 2 player version of Boarding Actions (those army rules are coming soonish?) So 4 500pt armies fighting over a space-ship. love to see that chaos.
My LGS is looking to make me the Warhammer guy for the store and one of the things I wanted to do is to make Combat Patrols a regular thing since it's going to be an easy way for people to get into the game and to try a new faction. I was specifically interested since they said they were going to be balancing the boxes against each other, but I unfortunately think that they failed in that regard. Some boxes are entirely infantry while others got access to heavy vehicles that are potentially impossible to kill and deal high damage, like the Wraithlord, as Joe unfortunately found out. They need to rebalance the mode, likely by lowering the toughness and maybe some damage of vehicles, or else those combat patrols are going to dominate the game mode. There is no reason for some armies to have toughness 8+ vehicles when some armies only have access to 2 attacks at a maximum strength 8, and one of those is a super charged plasma pistol. For reference, that Wraithlord is toughness 11, the World Eater's Combat Patrol has no way to wound it on better than a 5. Side note, that was scummy at 11:50 The stratagem says it has to be used after a unit has been targeted for an attack, not after an opponent has already rolled their dice for the attack.
Wraithlords can't use strands of fate dice in combat patrol games. They only had deadly demise. You guys seemed to have used the normal data sheet cards for units instead of the combat patrol ones. They have different data sheets and different rules than index data sheets. Combat patrol is set units with set rules for each faction.
Alright, I think it's time I started getting my own armies, I was always intimidated by the little building and painting process. I'm afraid of fucking up bad, but I gotta start somewhere. I decided my first army will be orks because they're stupid, and so am I. I can't wait to get into this!
im so happy with the knew rules. as somone who has played 8th and 9th, 10th has had by far the easiest and most enjoyable games of Warhammer I have played yet.
Great first game Joe! Just a couple of pointers. 1) loved the green screen box for dice rolls, really handy. 2) Try playing standing up next time and see how it feels. It makes your voice clearer and lets you convey more excitement to the action.
Joe, were you not shooting with the artillery? Also, I’m not 💯 on combat patrol, but on the first turn, I believe the scout sentinel has an ability to make indirect artillery +1?

If Gaurd face GSC in combat patrol. The only thing they have to really take on the Rockgrinder is a single HK missile on the sentinel and also there is about a 280 point difference. Its not a very balanced game set for gaurd or thousand sons.

Not really? You still control units in CP, unlike kill team's individual models. And CP is basically preset and supposedly balanced lists, will kill team is still make your own

Trying to get into 40k myself. Good production value, easy to follow and not 3 hours long, I'd say this is a good report. Would love to see more.
Could have respawned the Sentinel since it has the available keyword for the reinforcement stratagem. May be different in Combat Patrol though.

Well I meant in Combat Patrol. I know thats true for Full 40K but Actually Death Guard and Ad-mech perform a bit better in Combat Patrol specifically.

One cool thing I think I read was there is a more than 2 player version of Boarding Actions (those army rules are coming soonish?) So 4 500pt armies fighting over a space-ship. love to see that chaos.
My LGS is looking to make me the Warhammer guy for the store and one of the things I wanted to do is to make Combat Patrols a regular thing since it's going to be an easy way for people to get into the game and to try a new faction. I was specifically interested since they said they were going to be balancing the boxes against each other, but I unfortunately think that they failed in that regard. Some boxes are entirely infantry while others got access to heavy vehicles that are potentially impossible to kill and deal high damage, like the Wraithlord, as Joe unfortunately found out. They need to rebalance the mode, likely by lowering the toughness and maybe some damage of vehicles, or else those combat patrols are going to dominate the game mode. There is no reason for some armies to have toughness 8+ vehicles when some armies only have access to 2 attacks at a maximum strength 8, and one of those is a super charged plasma pistol. For reference, that Wraithlord is toughness 11, the World Eater's Combat Patrol has no way to wound it on better than a 5.
Side note, that was scummy at 11:50 The stratagem says it has to be used after a unit has been targeted for an attack, not after an opponent has already rolled their dice for the attack.
Wraithlords can't use strands of fate dice in combat patrol games. They only had deadly demise. You guys seemed to have used the normal data sheet cards for units instead of the combat patrol ones. They have different data sheets and different rules than index data sheets. Combat patrol is set units with set rules for each faction.
Production value on these are always out 10/10 can’t wait to watch the long play on the live stream channel

Alright, I think it's time I started getting my own armies, I was always intimidated by the little building and painting process. I'm afraid of fucking up bad, but I gotta start somewhere. I decided my first army will be orks because they're stupid, and so am I. I can't wait to get into this!

im so happy with the knew rules. as somone who has played 8th and 9th, 10th has had by far the easiest and most enjoyable games of Warhammer I have played yet.

Just a couple of pointers.
1) loved the green screen box for dice rolls, really handy.
2) Try playing standing up next time and see how it feels. It makes your voice clearer and lets you convey more excitement to the action.
Just split the new Leviathan box with a friend and cant wait to get into the hobby. Was a great time watching the match!

Joe, were you not shooting with the artillery? Also, I’m not 💯 on combat patrol, but on the first turn, I believe the scout sentinel has an ability to make indirect artillery +1?

If Gaurd face GSC in combat patrol. The only thing they have to really take on the Rockgrinder is a single HK missile on the sentinel and also there is about a 280 point difference.
Its not a very balanced game set for gaurd or thousand sons.

Not really?
You still control units in CP, unlike kill team's individual models.
And CP is basically preset and supposedly balanced lists, will kill team is still make your own
