I had a tank call me out when I ran a dungeon as a dancer the other day, saying if I wanted to tank they can turn their stance off. Thing is, I never pulled for them lol. The first boss died and I was closer to the door so I just happened to be ahead of them, but I never pulled.
So I laughed it off and was like dude I'm not pulling you can chill. He turned his stance off anyways so I was like alright then and actually did pull. A good dancer can handle tanking if they need to anyways as long as the healer heals. We make it to the next boss with me wall to walling as a dancer tank and I said "do you feel better now that you see your tantrum means nothing?"
So he sat there and did nothing while we fought the next boss. After which I said "hey man I really don't understand why you're even mad when I never pulled for you until you refused to tank at all" to which he said "so what you're saying is you're too good to apologize?"
And that's when we vote kicked lmao. People that act like this are just announcing to the whole game how inexperienced they are to think a any one role is so important that they can try to stop the dungeon. You run just as fast as me and have the same sprint button, if I'm running ahead of you that's a you problem, especially if I'm not pulling and you still have issues
Tanks make a huge deal about their role in dungeons, but dungeons have been so streamlined that anyone can tank, especially 1 pack pulls. Meaning that a tank that pulls this crap is just wasting everyone's time.

@@24hr-Gaming I'm a tank main myself but like to do my daily roulettes with all jobs. You know what I do when DPS run ahead of me? I run faster lol. Assert your tank dominance lol.
If I'm healing and the tank goes too slow I'll rescue them to the next pack.
@@24hr-Gaming A tank single pack pulling literally negates any reason to have a tank in the party. Tanks are only there to hold aggro so the party can cleanly wall to wall pull. If you're not gonna wall to wall, you don't need a tank. Likewise, if you're running a warrior or paladin at higher levels, you don't even need a healer lol. NOTHING about how a tank handles a single pack or a wall to wall pull changes, absolutely nothing, you press your AoEs and your mits, in fact wall to walling is more efficient because your mits are affecting more attacks. FF14 literally has no place for YPYT and it is actually against the TOS.
I'm 45 years old woman. Started the game at 42 stopped a few times cause life is way more important. I cant agree more with OP and Patra. This 40 year old lady was in need of real friends and stop playing to go out into the world and do something to help herself.

But I make it a habit of announcing at the start that if someone does pull, accidentally or otherwise, that they run to me so I can pick up the enmity
And that if I'm pulling slow, people are free to pull ahead, just as long as they get the enemies towards me :>

I remember as a rule when I started healing you get aggro you walk up to the tank he’s just spamming AOEs no big deal. I am tanking now still not that far in MSQ, but still I prefer turning my brain off and mashing 1,2,3 you bring one of them close to me they’re getting picked up and I won’t even notice.
you should just walltowall and only stop if the healer can't keep up, or ask the healer first if you don't want to do that. The assumption that there even is anything for the dps to pull and bring to you is already a sign you're doing something wrong as a tank
@@kiiturii You make a sound advice, but I personally do not like Wall-to-Wall pulls and opt to moving to the next pack once the first one is almost dead because I am more comfortable that way. Other tanks are allowed to do what htey want, they dictate the pace of the run and I respect that and adjust myself to that when I'm healing.

As a tank main, you pull you tank can definitely be the difference between the tank dying and staying alive. I usually take the mobs off the dps, especially if it was accidentally pulled, but when the healer is no good... It is the difference between life and a wipe.
To me it's just a matter of making sure everyone's on the same page. I have all jobs maxed and go back and forth between tanking and healing in dungeon roulettes, so I know that for the most part dungeon mobs are meant to be wall-to-walled and I'm more than capable of tanking and healing those pulls, so by default that's how I normally play and if DPS move ahead and pull when I'm tank I'll just pick up the aggro, no problem. But like you said, if the healer is a sprout who's still learning and we wipe then I'll communicate with the healer and go with a pace they can keep up with, and if DPS are still pulling more then at that point that's when the YPYT line is actually appropriate.

This was wild from start to finish. Her being a JW really came out of nowhere, but I was under the impression they were supposed to avoid games and stuff that has magic and witchcraft. I wonder what @OwenMorganTelltale would have to say about it.

I had some bard and his friends in a dungeon. I was wall pulling and this jerk kept pulling ahead. He died even tho I tried to save the team. Than they yell at me and kick me.
I was once a You pull you tank small pp bastard but now i don't do that anymore, i can attest the mindset is one of insecurity. I use to be very self conscious of my tanking ability and felt people who pulled ahead of me were saying they didn't need me. Thankfully I've grown (lol) as a tank and don't mind the DPS or healer pulling ahead of me, in most cases it helps us all finish the dungeon faster! As a side note, often time older people who date younger people (regardless of gender) are often time looking for someone naive and inexperienced so they can get away with their bullshit.
The only times I ever do YPYT is when I'm trying to type to help out a sprout in a dungeon because they asked a question and you decided you can't wait for a dang few seconds lol. Sorry I can't type lightning speed and you already like, further ahead sprinting and not actually bringing them to me.
I've only ever had to put my foot down about DPS pulling once, and it was after a DPS wiped us twice by rushing ahead when the healer was struggling. The first time I picked up the ads, the second I let him die. The third we vote kicked the DPS because he was dragging us down. These days, with the reworks to most the dungeons, there only a couple where you need to be careful when you pull, and where DPS can mess you up.

"You pull, you tank" should always be applied to someone who intentionally tries to "speed up" the progress without a heads-up only, instead of to everyone who hits the mob first or simply overaggro.
If you tab your mob selection away, it is easy to shoot the wrong mob for a ranged job. The same applies to a healer who intentionally lets a party member die.
YPYT and intentionally letting someone die are necessary in specific situations for party management, but if you abuse this. You are a shitty tank/healer.

as a tank main... shoulder to shoulder AOE mess is best unless under level 50 ARR extra dungeons because they neglected to give anything other than Monk and Dancer a AOE at those levels.
I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to say with your post but I will say that I have wall to wall pulled all ARR dungeons. Only a few pulls among the dungeons can be spicy such as the first one in Stone Vigil which can be resolved by just splitting it.
@@lauradrew1260 it is indeed possible but if I'm tanking a dungeon under level 50 I typically will split most pulls as a default to two per boss like they already are. Stone Vigil is definitely the toughest it gets. The first pull is never the issue for me there it's the pulls with the ice sprites that are dangerous
@@lauradrew1260 oh I just mean I prefer when the entire party runs shoulder to shoulder so the AOEs connect during the pull to everything. You have been there where they are so afraid of the tank space that they lag behind for some reason. Wall to wall is fine under 50 but more often than not in those you get the brand new player that never upgraded gear. I have seen some wild things even going all the way up to lv80 like that time I got a healer in the Grand Cosmos that thought Esuna healed... I have never pressed Clemency more but stuff happens and just gives me another amusing story.
Those that do the whole "you pull, you tank" thing indeed do have insecurity issues. They can always POLITELY express that they don't like others pulling. If it continues then they can just get through the dungeon and likely not play with that player again. There's no reason to throw a tantrum in the middle of the duty.

"You pull, you tank." I was in a dungeon yesterday with a tank that was really bad at tanking. When I say bad, I mean, couldn't hold agro even with their tank stance on, full taunts and AoE. One of our DPS was every so often getting the enemy they currently had targeted to turn and face them instead of the tank(at least once more than one enemy because of their own AoE). So at the final boss, the tank spit out a macro about how so-and-so wants to tank, and they are too high to say no. Turned off their tank stance, stopped using their taunt, and just let the entire party take much of the damage. I was the healer of the party, and went into full blown panic mode trying to keep everyone alive(I'm new to the game, so still learning and memorizing things). The small bit of satisfaction out of all of this was, the tank was the only one that died in that fight. Though, part of it was because I kinda stopped healing them, electing to focus on the two DPS which were now taking the full brunt of things. Didn't even wait for a swiftcast rez, the second the end cutscene triggered the tank bailed out of the party.
The moral of this little story? If you decide you are not going to play your role as tank, your healer just might decided that you are no longer their focus.
Man that's wild. Only thing I can think of that could cause tank to not hold aggro despite having everything would maybe be a gear issue? Poor rotations? Tanking is not hard at all lol

I'm pretty chill staying behind the tank, but If I have Bahamut or Pheonix summoned and the tank isn't moving fast enough I sure will pull. I won't waste my best DPS. Tank bros need to chill. It's a party not a dictatorship. 😂

You pull, you tank was important before tank stance. Managing aggro was much different and had to be done. Nowadays? I feel like its rude to pull ahead of the tank. No one talks to each other in dungeons anymore so its hard to tell if someone is new at tanking or healing and things can go sideways in some places. I feel like its super inconsiderate to run ahead. Especially since we're already low on tanks and causing anxiety is probably not a good incentive to try it again.
As someone who plays tank, it's not rude at all. If I'm too slow, grab some mobs and bring them over. If you have it, use Arms Length so the healer can focus on dps some more.
@@NuchiAsaki it's rude because you're one person. There's many more tanks out there, which means going the conservative route as default is better. You can change it up as the party gets acquainted. And like I said new tanks need more time than a tank main. It's not all about you. Therefore it's rude.
@@MekareP I'm a healer main who also plays tank, not a tank main. Why would someone need more time? Tanks are not needed for single pulls so if you're single pulling, you're leeching. Leeching is rude and disrespectful to the rest of the party.

It's the same thing as a healer. Lwhy you run ahead and make his job and my job more complicated It's ironic that you said pulling small is disrespectful and rude but yeah, I'm making this play the way you wanna play the irony

"You pull, you tank" used to be a thing in WoW because most DPS couldn't tank and it was 200% a powerplay. I just doot my tanking AoE when people pull lol.
It was important in XIV before tank stance. Managing aggro was a much different beast.

As someone who has tank anxiety and is still new to tanking, I really don't like it when people pull mobs when I'm not ready for them
If it makes you feel better, FF14 dungeons are extremely streamlined and faceroll easy because SE has made tanking dungeons absolutely brain dead. Don't panic, don't stress, you run to a pack, press your AoE combo, sprint to the next pack, repeat and start calmly cycling through your mits. As you get used to it, you'll realize big pulls are actually EASIER on you because your mits are getting far better mileage than if you were single pack pulling. It's just a matter of getting into the mindset that big pulls aren't actually scary, especially if you're a WAR or PLD (seriously, WAR alone is busted in how easy they make dungeons). I had a similar issue the other day with a couple, they were a tank and healer and we were doing The Aetherochemical Research Facility (Roulette). The tank got really angry because I was moving ahead before him. He was doing small pulls for no reason. At first, I thought it was because he was new to that content, but he had all jobs leveled so he was just being cocky. Even his girl was moving wall-to-wall waiting for him to aggro everything accordingly. And, I'm sorry but I'm not wasting my time just because you are lazy. If you want to play tank and don't have a good excuse or have asked for a couple of minutes, you are supposed to do a wall-to-wall pull and everyone is supposed to do their thing. I was not being toxic, I was just moving ahead because I thought we were doing a full pull (like it usually is). During the first boss (Harmachis) the tank turned his stance off and everyone had issues. The healer died, the other DPS (SMN) almost did too and I had to use lb to finish the boss before dying. So............ After that, he started to bully me in the chat and eventually turned his stance a couple of times so I decided to stop going ahead and sit down in one of the elevators. After noticing that turning stances wouldn't work anymore he voted to dismiss me before the last boss. Obviously I reported and blocked him.
It's not laziness. A lazy person would pull everything so they get get the dungeon finished faster. They just want to be dicks for no reason.

OP sounds like cringe, it is definitely situational. If a dps ran ahead on purpose to pull extra for tank then nah, but if it's just accidental then yeah I'll aggro.
it depends really, if I say I don't want people pulling for me and they pull they are tanking them. if I don't say that then its fine, just make sure to bring the mobs to me so I can pick them up.
It really doesn't depend though dude, it's LITERALLY your job to pull aggro off people. Doesn't matter if the DPS is running around not bringing the mobs to you, you have a high enmity ranged attack to pull aggro back (unless they're braindead and run out to Narnia for some reason). Not doing your job is asking to get reported because it's against TOS.

@@Nightstriker995 Lol dude if you're in a max level dungeon you ought to be comfortable wall to walling, the dungeons are literally designed for it and NOTHING about what you do changes between single group pulling and wall to walling, in fact you make things easier on yourself by wall to walling because it makes your mits that much more valuable. If you're gonna single pull save everyone from yourself by playing with trusts, otherwise as the healer who you're giving nothing to do I'm going to start pulling for you and have zero issues tanking for you. Deal with it or leave.

YPYT is suuuch a WoW player mentality. I noticed when a lot of them started playing FFXIV it started happening a lot more.
As a tank main, I'm not a fan of the YPYT mentality. I try to get a feel for the pace that the party wants and match that. But if someone else pulls aggro, I just get in there and take it off of them no questions asked.

I just don't understand the "You tank you pull" mentality. I feel like people who are like that aren't good tanks and use it as an excuse. I'm not a great tank by any means, but how hard is it to run to mobs that are aggroed onto other players and AoE? 🤷♂️
It's more from dungeons that have since been changed, as well as before things like Warrior self-sustain. There were a couple where you needed to pull a bit slower depending on tank/healer combo. For me, one of the bigger issues was back in the days of conal Overpower, and it make it a pain to get adds people pulled. It's really not that big of a deal anymore, most tanking is just stand still and AoE while cycling cooldowns.
If I'm running ranged DPS or Healer, when I see that something has decided to attack me, my first instinct is to run at/through the tank. If the mob is also ranged, I will put the tank between it and myself, then move to exceed it's combat range to force it to move into the tank. It's not nice to force the tank to chase you down while you are running wildly about because a Tonberry is poking you in the bum.
I don't know I myself am, "you spank it, you tank it type," as well. Thing is though I main WAR tank so I'm the one doing the spanking and the DPS+Heals are just along for the ride. I don't really give ground rules on a roulette/raid but I'll give warnings and heads up to new players. WAR is crazy good with tons of self healing, mitigation and evil amounts of critical hit. A common setup I usually say is, "Warrior + Sage = MEAT GRINDER!!"🤣🤣🤣
I only really pull the "You Pull You Tank" card when I feel the rest of the team is really obnoxiously going ahead of me or talk trash about me.
Assert dominance by going even faster than them.
