Hi there! Today we compare two premium active speakers, Edifier S2000 Pro and Audioengine A5+. Both of these are full sized bookshelf speakers with lots of power and solid performance. Which one is better? Let's fond out! Styling of these two could not be any more different, Audioengine is modern and minimalistic while Edifier looks classic and elegant (as long as You keep the grilles off), both look good in their own way. Build quality is very good in both, both feel very solid and sturdy. Feature wise Edifier is better equipped one, it hosts Bluetooth connectivity, digital inputs (coax and toslink), XLR inputs and remote control. Audioengine also has remote control, but lacks any digital inputs. A5+ has one feature that S2000Pro lack and that is subwoofer output, which is nice. Edifier beats Audioengine in terms of self noise, S2000Pro is almost silent while Audioengine has audible hiss from tweeters. Soundwise there is not much between A5+ and S2000Pro, but I do have a favourite here and it is Edifier. Tonal balance is better in Edifier, it has flatter response with less peaks and valleys. Audioengine has an emphasis on upper midrange and treble and that makes them appear clearer, when is fact it is a matter of volume rather than real detail. Quality of treble is better in S2000Pro, it is smoother and more airy and detailed. Quality of midrange is solid in both but I find Edifier a bit more natural and easier on the ear thanks to less forward upper midrange. Bass is where, in my opinion, Edifier has the biggest advantage over Audioengine, S2000Pro is more extended and has stronger dynamic sla, while A5+ is also nicely extended but has a bit of boominess in the upper bass range and lacks a bit of punch. Edifier also has more 3D soundstage with more depth and precision. As You can see Edifier S2000 Pro is, at least in my opinion, better speaker that is worth a bit of extra money over Audioengine. What is Your opinion? Which one do You like more and why? Let me know in the comments below! Cheers!
Your review, in general, coincided with my impressions, except for a few details that I could not detect on my monitors. However, I think that Edifier, because it is more complete, would be better for listen to music, TV or multi media.. but for monitoring, I think Audioengine may be a more accurate analysis tool due to its more evident midrange and more discreet midbass. The feature of the subwoofer output is redundant if there is no HPF in my opinion, this output would be more interesting to chain other monitors. And finally, we must consider the difference in value of Edifier of more than 30% above the value of an Audioengine, which I think is fair, but for some it may not be. 🔊/🔇 😊
@@robinsonpeixoto8521 In my country edifiers are cheaper....And when you say hpf what do you mean? I mean which of them are you refering to?From what i know just a5 has subwoofer output. But i didnt know there s no hpf
@@STR1XDLB The low frequencies are those that require more cone displacement and amplification power. See, delicate mid-frequencies are greatly impaired if they are reproduced by a cone that also has to move violently to reproduce the bass, it is due to this problem that there are specific mid-range speakers. The High Pass Filter is a filter that lets pass only the high frequencies, blocking the low ones. In practice, this filter prevents the monitors from reproducing the bass frequencies, directing them all "only" to the subwoofer. If there is an output to the sub without the HPF, the sub just "adds" more bass to the sound, as the monitors will still be playing bass. With the HPF, the distortion is greatly reduced and the monitors work much more accurately because they only become mid and high frequency reproducers and have a great headroom in amplification power.. there is also, in this case, power reserve and dinamic. :) 👍
@@robinsonpeixoto8521 Thank you for the information.=)) But what do you think about the a5+?I cant test the edifiers sadly but i have the a5+.They are great speakers but a lot of people say the edifiers are better. They seem better to me too being currently price the same with the a5+ because of the bluetooth bass treble knobs...but also i think they are ugly ish.I bought the a5+ based on the good reviews but i didnt know edifiers exist and there arent really any reviews of the edifiers except maybe the random forum people reviews.Anyway my question is:Do you think i should sell my a5+ and get something else.Maybe even the mighty swans.I mean there is that much of a difference to justify the time and money i lose replacing them?
@@STR1XDLB Well, this is something that only you can decide, only you can know if you want and it is really worth exchanging your Audioengine. It also has the question of the type of use that makes the equipment: Whether it is professional, monitoring the mixes, whether it is Home Theater, connected to satellites and subwoofer or just enjoying their music. If you plan to improve the general sound quality in the future by adding one or two subwoofers for example, I do not advise either Edifier or Audioengine, because of the lack of the HPF filter I mentioned.. this only exists on professional monitors, and they are not necessarily more expensive, although many are.
Не сказал бы, что более глубокое и живое звучание, разве что чуток. In my opinion edifier sounds not 'more deep' but a little deeper. Focal Listen Wireless, Sony MDR-1A.
I am amused by the strong opinions expressed by all of you. I have a variety of speakers, Wilson Audio, Vandersteen, Tannoy, Gale and more. They all sound good when I listen to them separately. When I A/B them, I always have a preference. I guess my point is this. I had A5s that started shutting off during silent passages in songs. I called AudioEngine and offered a discount on A5+ after ten years of use. I don't listen to them flat and equalize the sound using a decent sound card in my PC. In this demo, I found some music that sounded similar on both speakers, some things I liked better with the Edifiers and nothing I liked better with the A5+. However, I would be surprised if anyone could tell which speaker they were listening to in a blind test. We all have differences with frequency sensitivity. Pick a speaker you like including features, buy them and be happy. I am pleased with the service from AudioEngine, something never mentioned in these types of evaluations, and like the sub out capabilities as I use a sub. However, based on this demo, if I was going to use the speakers unequalized or flat (assuming the material demoed is presented flat) I would go with the Edifier. i would also demo the Swans mentioned in one of the comments below.

My friend, thank you for your work, you are unicate! About this spekers: A5+ have more "cristal" in the voice of singer. Edifier are great but sound is "chaotic", especially on rock music.
Great video as always. I got the A5+ from USA to India only to be disappointed with their sound that didn't quite match up to the rave reviews. Had to purchase isoacoustic stand for them..now they sound more nuanced....It will be great if you could do some testing with the same..cheers!!
I have Audioengine A5+ With Sub R110-SW plugged into SoundblasterX AE-5. Do you recommend change the equalizer for better sound? or is it better to leave the equalization disabled? During the equalization of the sound I know that we should never increase the db. But we should actually lower the db to prevent distortion in the sound.

How did you found AE-5 with hi-fi speakers?I didn’t tested yet due to crap speakers i have, i need to buy good one, still searching. Thank u
The Audioengines for me! It just sounds a lot cleaner to me like the hi-hats just sounds better and clearer. I get fatigue from the trumpets coming from the Edifier but not from the Audioengines. On the Hip Hop sound clip, I hear more Bass on the Edifier but there is also clipping and it bothers me a little (between 6:29-6:36).
Here’s another test with this very song th-cam.com/video/YBNnZDFJT5E/w-d-xo.html and the same clipping between 6:57 and 7:04 if I get you right. So it’s the song, not the speakers 😊
Love the Long Drive song by Jeff Meegan. Especially his tone on the word "call". I'll have to look into this singer. Only two albums in about 13 years (on my Napster at least).
