    I own AudioEngine A5+ and HD6, both really great-sounding near-field speakers. I cannot complain. However, in this video, the JBL LSR305 sounds like it has more presence and seems incredibly more open than the A5+. I suspect that with this kind of high-low frequency balance and performance from the JBLs, listening to them over long periods will bring about listening fatigue. Be that as it may, they are the winners in this A-B test.

    I always had a chance to buy Audioengine speakers, but always decided to go for well known brands. bowers & wilkins have been my go to brand, untill recently where I had a chance to buy some Audioengine A5+ bamboo.... Man i Only wished I bought this a while ago. Let me say that Audioengine are optimize for near field, and also for non near field, their sound is not one that is made to impress you on first listen, but is one that is neutral, warm and full bodied. You can listen for hours and hours and hours without fatigue. Resolution and dynamic, insight, imagine, it had it all without being to much. For seasoned audiophiles this is a great everyday speaker. For new people, it won't be their first pick, since they all want a speaker that instantly sounds to their liking, clean clear highs etc... Audioengine is a speaker that takes time and a good sources in order to appreciate them.
    The bamboo is actually real bamboo and NO veneer. I sand them down to remove the gloss, i like the organic look better, solid bamboo speaker without any hollowness... Really amazing for the price.

    The JBL have little bit more clarity on the treble, about the same on the vocal but on the bass is different. The JBL reached deeper and thumping in my head while the A5+ cant do the same.
    But the bass test showed that both speakers can go 40Hz, I wonder how low the JBL can go?
    Overall JBL LSR350 wins it.

    Okay, super late to the party. I own both the LSR305 and A5+’s and I’ve put in a good bit of listening time on both. In my opinion the JBL’s are the for sure overall winner.
    The A5+’s were honestly disappointing out of the box as I had the JBL’s for some time before the A5+’s and naturally was making that comparison. They got better after some time breaking in but they can’t touch the JBL’s in real world applications in my opinion. At least my real world applications. Lol.

    Did you use the 305 with sound interface? Vocals on A5+ is better. Add a Dac to A5+ and make again the comparison. The difference between them will become bigger. I think that the A5+ its a better speaker.

      Monitor2USB has DAC built in, check the specs. I also listened to both of them connected to my Matrix Mini-I DAC and JBL showed some improvement while A5+ did not, hance my conclusion.

    I know SQ is very important, though I’m only listening to this using a $100 iem, but i vote goes to a5+ due to good sound (maybe not better), looks and size. Fit’s my needs

  • @everettwinterlast
    @everettwinterlast 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm sensing better detail & bass extention on JBL. Listening on R1700BT, putting on my best pair of headphones which I suggest will only reveal the same.
    Hifi Headphones: Wow, ok so the A5+ are much less fatiguing lol so there's that nonetheless. You could listen for longer sessions on A5+ but then again maybe the treble on the JBL just needs to be turned down volume wise to match in signature.
    EDIT: Bass is muddy/fatiguing on A5+ in comparison so fair match fatigue wise.
    Original thoughts hold true on headphones.
