Grande Puntos of the same vintage have the same alternator issue. Rain water directed through the scuttle panel falls straight onto the alternator instead of being routed to the ground. Excellent design 👍🏼
They did the same many years ago with the Fiat Ducato camper vans, the scuttle would drain directly over the gearbox breather. Another fantastic design :o)

I always take oil cap off and pull there and tap with a rubber mallet to break the seal and work it loose but we are all different and I'm no full time mechanic by trade only work on projects at the weekend. just yesterday I saw another mobile mechanic TH-camr (also in SE England), I think it was Kerbside Mobile Mechanic - complaining about a defective parts (at least one was from Lucas) and having to go back and do warranty repairs
I’m in a group chat with other mechanic/mobile mechanic lads and we’ve all noticed that with Lucas/LUK/Dayco and many others that their quality is on a downhill… a shame really…

Kerbside had same issue - Lucas alternator probably from euros failed straight away. Maybe both unlucky or a common theme? Who knows! Good work chaps - that valvetronic/servotronic gizmo shortcut was great! Can’t believe job time is 12 hours head off etc - shocking! Well done for the short cut though!
When I started in the motor trade 'Lucas' was a household name and a go-to replacement for all the car electrical work. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case as it's a 'made in China' issue.. That aside, it looks like on the Panda there is a rain drainage issue that's causing the problem.. Dear me, you'd have thought they would be getting these basic designs flaws sorted by now.
ive been having problems myself with lucas alternators,mines a diesel van so has the brake vac pump on the back which kept leaking,finally found a genuine ford one and its been fine,lucas isnt the same as it use to be
Totally agree mate. I feel like I’m gunna give some other brand a chance. WAI and RTX is a definite no no no and it seems like Lucas is going up that list too
Elstock and Lucas comes from the same factory, as far as I’ve been told anyway… Bosch/Delphi/AE is definitely a go to for me at the moment… I’m even considering Starline 😂😂😂

Even Japanese vets going out wrong I have owed a few cars of different makes but the most reliable of the all was the car my father bought new in 1975 a Wartburg with 1 litre two stroke engine he gave it to me when is eyesight started to fall I owed I for a few years in took it to 120.000 miles in that time it only needs tyres and brakes and one dynamo it was still running on the same set of points the price of fuel was going up like to day the car was not very economical especially with having to put two stroke oil in the tank with the petrol but I wish I had the car now it was very smooth and lots of room it had the biggest boot I have had on a car 😊
I recently had to buy a part from Honda just for the gaskets inside the part because Honda won’t sell the gasket’s alone. $338 US dollars. Apparently aftermarket gaskets suck and won’t work for very long. 🤬🤬🤬🤬
Hey bro you need to look after your health first . Be careful with your back. I had a mechanic friend who did this kind of work and had to retire early due to back pain. Ended up on benefits.
Il be honest with you my friend I've been doing this for over 20 years now since I left school and I love your videos . I watch them daily but a thing that keeps recurring in your videos is the faulty and unreliable parts . I had the same issue at the start whilst using euro car parts . When it comes to it and you get sick of doing warranty jobs youl understand and wish you used a more premium brand . I know the customer can ask you to fit parts from there but just don't warranty your labour when fitting them . There are certain things that are OK from there but only knowledge and knowing which things over time can save you allot of time and headache 😊 keep up the good work hope this helps u in some way

@themarvelousvlog just explain to the customer that you dont warranty the cheap parts from euro car parts due to the amount of failing parts in the past and don't warranty your labour you fit on customers parts unless genuine . People think that you are trying to upsell them sometimes but as you and i both know it doesnt matter if the part is 200 pound or 2000 pound we make the same money on both . Im just in proscess of a full service on a little ford fiesta nice little start to today .

You should try and find someone local who refurbish alternators i had mine go last year and was so cheap compared to replacing it even with money back for the old one plus they had in done in less than a few hours might be worth looking into
I strip down these Toyota 1/2zr valvematics occasionally in the factory, watching you try to get the valvecover off was funny I always forget a bolt even after doing 20-30 of them 😂
12-15 hours for that valvematic 🤣 yeah I'm sure toyota will charge that and then do it in 2 hours. It's such a common failure on the 1.8 and people tend to supply their own when they want a replacement and they've bought a used one on ebay for £200 and you know it's going to fail immediately.
It’s weird how that’s a ‘15hr’ job. Looks fairly straightforward 😅 They bought a genuine Toyota part from an eBay seller for £800. I rang the same company to ask if they had a gasket they said no. I also asked how much it cost for a new valvematic and they said £200 + VAT 💀
Toyota time for valvematic control is about 1hr, not sure where autodata gets 15 from? Instructions show pretty much what you did, but turn engine over until cams are in a certain position and you can get the pin out with a magnet
When i was at VW we had "a lot" of those 2.0 TDI come in with blown engines, cuz of the belt .. so please dont follow the manufactures, get em changed earlier we had a few which barely had 100k km (iirc) and it was blown

@martinkurwa1989 how did you manage to do that? It’s always a struggle putting the belts in! If the kit comes with the stud, replace the stud; if no then don’t worry. I also find that those studs like to break when torquing them in. Something weird like 20nm + 180 degree.. (I can’t remember) 😂

I've just bought a foxwell NT809BT and I don't think it's as good as yours for checking history of the cars issues or individual components like all the sensors etc to see if they're operating fine, or it does do it but I just don't know how to use it yet! Lol. Do you know of my scanner and is it any good? I want it for my new business buying and selling cars. Cheers
It’s a lose lose situation with the trade at the moment. Pay after-market get loads of warranty work; pay expensive with dealership parts, lose work as no one would wanna pay expensive parts. I don’t know how to go from here 😂
I have problem with a car, with the car not moving at all on reverse gear. Checked the transmission, dirty and a lot of metal contaminants. Replaced ATF fluid, filter and everything. Still the car doesn’t move in reverse with no fault codes. I’m assuming it needs a transmission replacement ? Any advice ??
@@themarvelousvlog Get an Iveco 3.5t. The old ones from a decade+ ago used to go on the bodywork but good drivetrain, albeit a bit 'rough n ready' to drive. The newer ones over the last 5 years or so are much improved and I was surprised how decent it was when I drove one for a couple of weeks. Finding one that isn't ratty cosmetically will be a challenge but if you do, they are strong mechanically. Just put a tank of premium diesel through it every 3 or 4 fills to keep the injectors, EGR and DPF clean.. Forget the Sprinters, they seem to have gone to sh it over the past 5 years or so and throw up the same sort of bills as the Fiat- family - they are only selling because of their old reputation but owners are quickly wising up.
Try to avoid Lukas alternator mate, wasting your precious time! Jon unveil his hidden talent...I remember the NBA superstar Dennis Rodman, when I saw Jon 😀..
enjoyed esp. alternator water shower. don't accept lower back pain. each morning 10mins exercise. eg on your back. towel under lumbar, cycling motion x 50. strenghten muscles supporting spine. swimming or yoga. after 10 days phaps come back and tell me it worked :-)

I’ve been taught differently for checking belt tension. Some use a belt tension gauge too.

Wait till you you try NAPA Alternators, on the 4th one on my passat in 3 months...
I Fitted an Elstock alternator from GSF a couple of years ago and have had no problems with it. Otherwise I normally go for Bosch.
Elstock and Lucas comes from the same factory, as far as I’ve been told anyway…

Re lucas, alot of their parts now made in China along with Valeo. Also seen the quality go down

It was showing timing chain off, head off and all sorts. I’m not sure to be honest…

In Ireland would trade old in Toyota but pass car some else they not want quarantine warranty's old car the trouble bother hassle come back

They’re usually Round 20k miles off including oil interval; they over estimate it. I feel like their tests are for ‘best case scenario’

Mine is the MS919 which is pretty comprehensive as it does pretty much everything. Note to say that there is no such thing as a perfect scanner!
