Nino, you beautiful bastard, this is the most amazing episode ever on your channel, all hands down. I absolutely love the new production style, which is informative and engaging. Also, the old Bertha coming back to life brings memories of the episode of Top Gear when they try to kill a Toyota pickup truck and no matter what they tried it was coming back to life every single time. It's a great statement to Toyota engineers, especially regarding the quality of their builds. One last thing it looks like this car has been fitted with an LPG installation, suggested by an inlet near the fuel flap, but I've seen no connections or accessories related to LPG installation inside the engine bay.
Haha I appreciate that mate. I put a lot of effort into upping the production value and I'm glad it hasn't gone unnoticed! The car has definitely had LPG installed in the past, but it has all been removed at some point

I bought a used 4.7ltr VXR with 89k on it when my family and I moved to Dubai. Excellent vehicle! Took it dune bashing, drove all over the UAE and Oman with it. My wife used it for mounting the kerb outside the kids school and crushing smaller vehicles in the car park of Spinneys supermarket. When we left, I sold it to a Yemeni fireman who drove it all the way to Sana’a. I dare say, 17 years later, it’s still going!

Well done, mate! There's a reason why Land Cruisers have a fantastic reputation. And regarding the 'scabby' undercarriage, I have a three word suggestion for you: "dry ice blasting". I'm looking forward to the next installment.
Looks like there is an LPG (propane) fill point? If it has been run on LPG, that’s why the oil and inside of the crankcase is so clean. LPG burns clean and doesn’t carbon up the crankcase. Therefore, I don’t think it’s been starved of oil! It’s probably old oil, just looks new! 😊

As an owner of a '99 JDM Toyota Harrier (which I love!) and a long-time admirer of the Land Cruiser, this video was a total joy to watch - great job! But you MUST change that timing belt ASAP - not only is it indeterminably old but it's also been wound round itself - it's a failure waiting to happen! You've got me looking at Land Cruisers on eBay again!
@@landcruiserscotland It’s the JDM version of the Lexus RX300 but lighter, with a more powerful V6 engine, and a gearbox with sport and manual modes - its a great drive and can easily out-accelerate cars like Mazda MX5s! I have an Audi A4 B7 with 186k and I do a compression test every time I start it up. To do this test I put the key in the ignition, then turn it until the car starts. If it starts and runs nicely it still has compression. 🤣. It actually does have good compression 13.1 12.7 12.7 13.1, I also use Engine Restore every other oil change as "project cars" tested that stuff and it actually works. Love your channel mate. Always entertaining
Toyotas are tough cars. Bought a diesel 1998 Hilux from Copart, it started right up with no issues after being parked for God knows how long. Nice to see you again, Nino! Greetings from Brazil.
Lots of things lesser have their own page on Wiki bro 😂. Nice cruiser btw, we have an abundance of them here in Oz and theres a reason for that 👌🏻. 200K - we classify that as just run in 😂
Brilliant. I like how good Toyotas from the 90s and 00s are and how they really are fixable. Not taking anything away from your efforts, but I expect that the alternator might have come back, too. The fusable links (just fuses really, I think) are quite readily available on eBay etc and most Toyotas have standard sizes of between 80 and 140 A in the engine bay. Like that you soldered as a fix. I bet many have been replaced with bent nails or fence stables around the world. Great diagnostics on the cam and when that went, I think if folded the belt over and stopped the engine PDQ. That probably saved the engine. I think the engine deserves a new belt and idler as I expect that belt is damaged. You may also find the fan clutch doesn't work as it should and in warmer conditions the temps might rise. The Toyota manuals are superb and, easy to follow and I'd like to see what you do next with the LC. It might be expensive to fuel but it deserves to be cleaned and run in so it has a new life. A good clean and prep underneath and then some Lanoguard or other treatment would be good, too. I have a NEV Toyota project vehicle and should get a sweatshirt to wear when I working on it.
Really is a fantastic car. I'm instantly a Toyota convert. I very much plan to give it some proper love in future videos. New timing kit, underside treatment, fresh interior - the works!
Nino, it's been well worth the wait. Well done for taking on this challenge, your knowledge will grow with each vehicle. Your videos always put a smile on my face and at times really make me chuckle.
Loved the video, Looking forward to the next part. That's definitely a car that deserves to get the underbody cleaned up and rust prevention applyed and not a nut and bolt restore but definitely replace the bad bits (2nd hand of course) amd get another 200k miles out of her, I have had cars well under 8 years old with more mot issues than that old girl
Many Toyota technicians regard the early 2000s as the epic years in terms of Toyota build quality and over engineering - On top Land cruisers are built like a tank with a lot of redundancy built into it .. this video is a testament to that.. Well done 👍🏽
I have a 2000 Toyota 4 Runner, with 206,000 miles on it, but NO rust as I live on the West Coast of the USA, plus a Triumph Vitesse, which is fully restored, with 30k miles, I don't have a Carly, but I do have a FIXD, which is very similar. I have replaced my battery, alternator, injectors and intake air box, which was leaking, also my O2 sensors, I have cleaned my MAF sensor. I change the engine oil every 6,000 miles

Loved watching this video Nino, partly because like a lot of us, there's real joy seeing a car come back from the dead but also because the new story telling/narrative style really works well. I imagine it's a lot more work to do, but as a viewer it's brilliant! Looking forward to the next installment.
You've finally found a car that was worth the effort to revive. The mighty land cruiser is the best 4 wheel all terrain vehicle on the planet for a reason. Build quality beats every other manufacturer hands down. I'm glad you discovered how good these are compared to those useless Land rover's. Well done getting this old beast back on the road, especially as you're not even a trained mechanic.

Great to see you back and great job on the old girl. That 2uz is a great engine and will just keep on running with regular servicing. First job is please for me do the timing belt after all that work it would be your luck for it to fail 😂.
@@NotEconomicallyViable Probably worth changing diff/transfer box oils, ATF (Exchange method using the transmission pump, good vids on youtube) and coolant too
@@NotEconomicallyViable My understanding was that only the 2006 /2007 with VVTi were interference engines and the earlier ones without vvti were not interference engines. Would explain why there was no damage when the previous fault occurred.
Fixed on our own, our Fiat Doblo 1.9JTD ourselves, need a new thermostat and sensor, needed to dismantle lots of the right side of the engine but we did it, runs sweet and no overheating, parts, coolant and a new set of rachet spanners all in '£80, garage bill well, scrap yard then. Lots of research and lots of photos taken to rebuild.😀👍
Brilliant video. Glad to see it saved. I got a Toyota out of hedge a few years back it had sat for 9 years. Jump pack and started right up. Ran it for a year or so and it was a proper cockroach car.
Greetings from Western Australia as an expat from the uk I feel knowledgeable on this haha. We ave thousands of these over here and they are worth a lot more than the uk market. They are considered a work horse here with longer commutes. Average price is between 18-25k AUD and that’s with 350k kms on them. Definitely a lot less corrosion underneath though… we don’t salt roads. Good work reviving this and getting a MOT for it!
Inspiring work mete. To say you're not a mechanic at this point is ridiculous! I'd leave my car into ypu for repairs. Trying to find an honest mechanic around here is impossible, so I took the route of teaching myself to fix things. Your channel has helped a lot. Thanks man 👍

well done. I think yours is one of the only channels I can watch for almost an hour and not click off. Love every videos and your an amazing guy. Keep it up one day it will be economically viable.
Brilliant job. Well done. My advice would be to take your time sorting out that underneath, but crucially to not look at it as a whole but just pick a small area, a small enough area that you reckon you could do a good job on with the wire brush (preferably on a grinder) and just be satisfied with doing that small area for that session. Then next time you get it up on the lift do another small section. Better to do small areas at a time but perfectly, instead of big areas not so perfectly. Have fun with it.
Nino, your channel has really evolved ever since you got the knit with a lift! Absolutely top notch content. Always love proving the missus' wrong when she's disappointed in a project of mine too.
Welcome back! Great to see you back with the best video so far. Got to say I miss you groveling around on the floor, waiting for the rain to pass....and I bet you secretly do too! Keep up the good work!
So happy your back Nino, I was having to fill my you tube time watching some chap fix a Rolls Royce with his dad and mates. And keep this new format going, I loved it, the hour flew buy.
My sister had a new one of these. You could only tell it was running by looking at the rev counter. She managed to put washer fluid in the power suspension and caused £1500 repair bill. Her husband was so busy staring at the new land cruiser sitting on the floor he managed to drive his car into a newly delivered skip and caused 6k damage to his car.
These vehicles are BULLET PROOF!!! If you get it up and running, and it works well, I would not argue if you kept it, even for a while, as a daily runner.
Really enjoying the additional layer of narratives to camera, it's like a interactive Haynes manual... Channel is going from strength to strength nino 🙏🏻
I love your enthusiasm and energy! You never give up! Keep up the good work! Also spotted a little beast sat next to the Toyota, can’t wait for more news on that
Hi, this is fantastic episode as the mighty Landcruiser is a vehicle that is close to my heart. I live in New Zealand and have a 75 series Ute Landcruiser, my son has an FJ40 Landcruiser and my wife has a Prado Landcruiser, I grew up in Africa and the 75 series is very popular there and in Australia. These vehicles are bulletproof and very capable off-road. I also recognise your local Halfords! I used to live in Chelmsford at one time! (A previous episode)
Can i just tell you that this is the car that i love and hate the most out of all of them? I hate how easily the rust eats them up. And i love how smooth and capable they are and the motor is bullet proof. They are so well built that when the first or second owner reach 250k miles and everything is about to break they sell them. And people like you or me buys them. And we get stuck with not only a rust bucket but a large bill of parts. Oh and the front brake rotors are a pain to change if is rusty. It took me 3 hours with rust

Great to see you back bud 👍🏼
Thanks 👍
Toyotas are tough cars. Bought a diesel 1998 Hilux from Copart, it started right up with no issues after being parked for God knows how long. Nice to see you again, Nino! Greetings from Brazil.
It's a fantastic car! Appreciate the support bud 🤝
Glad your back . I was actually getting worried about you all
Nice one, presentation, music usage, editing and story arc have all gone up a notch, shows how hard youre working 👍🏼
Thanks bud. Glad you noticed. Been working hard to improve those things.
If you want to go out in the bush take a land rover. If you want to come back alive take a Toyota. And btw I own a disco 2 and love it . Great video !
Yeah that sounds like a plan. A 400k Landcruiser is a cool prospect
Many Toyota technicians regard the early 2000s as the epic years in terms of Toyota build quality and over engineering - On top Land cruisers are built like a tank with a lot of redundancy built into it .. this video is a testament to that.. Well done 👍🏽
Give the undercarriage a wire brush, a paint and some fish oil. Sorted
Dry-Ice blaster would bring that back 80% for sure
Better than fish oil, wire brush satin black rust converter and then use Lanox (sheep wool oil) we use this over west when beach driving.
Bilt Hamber UC spray. Awesome stuff. Look them up, top quality products. It’s also made from lanolin.
The man, the legend that is Nino is back, with a brand new revival of scrap 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 normal life has resumed 🎉🎉🎉
Haha appreciate that bud 🤝
enjoyed this one a lot. I love the hour-long format start to finish. I hate the standard "let's milk this with 3 episodes" from others
Yeah I don't like those videos either, which is why I try not to make them
Oh brother. I've been waiting for a new vid and it's a good one! Love that it worked out for you dude. Looking forward to the next one as always!
Thanks bud
I have a 2000 Toyota 4 Runner, with 206,000 miles on it, but NO rust as I live on the West Coast of the USA, plus a Triumph Vitesse, which is fully restored, with 30k miles, I don't have a Carly, but I do have a FIXD, which is very similar. I have replaced my battery, alternator, injectors and intake air box, which was leaking, also my O2 sensors, I have cleaned my MAF sensor. I change the engine oil every 6,000 miles
If you look after them they'll look after you in return. Good work 👍🏻
Nino, thank you so much for rescuing and saving this toyota !
To me as a hardcore toyota fan ,youre a bloody hero !
Keep it en cherish it,because the don't make em anymore like this.
Wachting this video was bloody brilliant !
Keep those toyota in need video's comming, and yes i subscribed.
Greetings from across the channel
🙏🏻😀🔧🚘❤️🕺🏻🚘
Just read that the Carly OBD scanner is not a one off purchase. It's a licenced product, in 12 months time, your credit debit card will be charged again. 😱
Amazing work buddy! Please completely restore the car and make a couple of more videos. Totally deserves a full restoration.
Great to see another video Nino. Hope everything was okay.
Just to add Nino, you are up there with Rob and Chris at Salvage rebuilds U.K, Ben at Tasty Classics, Dean at saving salvage, Derek at Vice grip garage in the U.S. Turning your videos into tutorials is a brilliant idea for those with relatively little experience, to see how things work and, adding a bit of humour. Hope the baby is doing well.
Loved watching this video Nino, partly because like a lot of us, there's real joy seeing a car come back from the dead but also because the new story telling/narrative style really works well. I imagine it's a lot more work to do, but as a viewer it's brilliant! Looking forward to the next installment.
It's a Toyota!! What do you expect! They are the best!! Legend!! Welldone mate!! 💪🏾
You are insane with this project - I love it ! :) Btw. great editing.
Appreciate that 🤝
As a lover of Toyotas, I'm so happy that you got this land cruiser running beautifully again. Great work mate. Keep up the fantastic work.
Nice workshop. This is the way to make a video. Please, keep on going.
Will do 👍🏻
Loved this video, Nino. Always been a fan of the Land Cruiser! Looking forward to Part 2.. in January 2025 - Happy New Year when it comes 🎉 xx
Great video getting better all the time and what a great old Toyota takes me back to the 90ies when I bought an old one .
This new video production style with future you narrating along present you tinkering is great, also love the explanatory bits for how stuff works etc. Great job !
Also you lucky bas....., what a great car for only 2 grand, didn't even need to change the oil...unheard off.
Appreciate that bud 🤝
Looks like youve got yourself a new project hauler. Im hoping for a trailer rebuild next!!! We have a 2010 Toyota Sequoia(similar to the 200series). 216,000 miles. Absolutely love it. Congrats on another one!!!
Yeah the idea with this car is to use it as a tow rig. I'm just finding out that Trailers are mighty expensive though!
@ thats what you need a PROJeCT trailer!!! Yay content!
@ Haha I’ll take a look into it!
Hello from a USA viewer. I have the Lexus variant of the 100 series with the 2UZ-FE..mine has 375,000 miles and runs like a new.... absolutely love this engine and cruiser.
Also found your channel by accident.... glad I did 👌
Great to have you on board. It’s such a great engine and car. Really looking forward to making this my daily and hopefully seeing 375,000 miles on the clock too 👍🏻
Great to see you back and great job on the old girl. That 2uz is a great engine and will just keep on running with regular servicing. First job is please for me do the timing belt after all that work it would be your luck for it to fail 😂.
Thanks mate. Yeah I already have all the new timing gear - very worried it's still a ticking time bomb
Nice to see you back!!
Good to be back!
Brilliant video. Glad to see it saved. I got a Toyota out of hedge a few years back it had sat for 9 years. Jump pack and started right up. Ran it for a year or so and it was a proper cockroach car.
Haha sounds like my idea of a great car!
lovely to see you back,
Greetings from Western Australia as an expat from the uk I feel knowledgeable on this haha.
A Toyota broke down?!
What did they do to it???
I’ve got a 3.0 mk7 hilux invincible and it is invincible!
Inspiring work mete. To say you're not a mechanic at this point is ridiculous! I'd leave my car into ypu for repairs. Trying to find an honest mechanic around here is impossible, so I took the route of teaching myself to fix things. Your channel has helped a lot. Thanks man 👍
Cruiser is in every way better than any product land rover has ever made
I had a lx470, basically the same car, in Cambodia for 8 years. It got beaten to death but never broke. Amazing machine.
loving the flute!!
My new favourite instrument
We have been missing you here in South Africa, welcome back. Toyota is one of the trusted and loved car brands in South Africa.
Watching at 26:51...is the car LPG converted...also Nino with his wife and kid next to the big bruisers...the best part of the video. A happy family is a wonderful thing.
Stay blessed.
Great to see you back man and the family looking well! Good old LandCruiser keeps knocking them down!
27:36 When the Full Send works. That is the most enthusiastic engine ever. didn't even hesitate! A good sign from the Car Gods that this car wants to live.
Love the Mrs' "Well, it's a grot bag, but well done." comment.
Ive owned 7 cruisers and they all have been worked hard. Keep up on the services and they will go forever.
She is mid life now thanks to you !!! Congrats for saving a great car, I've started following your channel, good job 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻
What a great video, Nino! All that storytelling, the drama, the suspense, the comedy, the happy ending... Masterpiece!
Thanks a ton! I put a lot of effort into this one and glad it hasn't gone unnoticed!
What a great video! So good to see you back!
I've just done pretty much the exact same thing with a 2010 X Trail! I currently have 'buyer anxiety' about what is sat on my driveway.
I know that feeling all too well haha
The production is absolutely fantastic in the episode. Video and audio synchronisation with the commentary is awesome 👍🏽
fired up on the button with old fuel. a true testament to Toyota
well done. I think yours is one of the only channels I can watch for almost an hour and not click off. Love every videos and your an amazing guy. Keep it up one day it will be economically viable.
Really appreciate that 👍🏻
Only one minute in and already some of the best production I've seen on this channel yet. Keep it up mate
Appreciate that 🤝
This is the first economically viable vehicle on the channel. Not only is it reliable, it should be worth a ton once done
It only took me about three years to find an economically viable project haha
Good job, that car should be a keeper, just keep tarting it up. Well done and good to see you back in action.
Yeah I think this is a long-term project
Absolutely worth the wait Nino. Love the new format. Very polished and informative video. Nice one mate!
Appreciate that bud 🤝
The amazing 2UZ! I have a 1st gen Tundra (2005) and just love this engine.
Brilliant video lino really enjoyed it .glad you're back ledgend.
Really enjoying the additional layer of narratives to camera, it's like a interactive Haynes manual... Channel is going from strength to strength nino 🙏🏻
I love your enthusiasm and energy! You never give up! Keep up the good work! Also spotted a little beast sat next to the Toyota, can’t wait for more news on that
When you're turning the crankshaft there will be a valve open on at least one cylinder, luckily this isn't an interference engine 👍
Really annoyed at myself for not including it in the video, but I actually had all four camshafts removed. Big oversight on my part.
