16:00 the “suits and sailor outfits” are actually Japanese school uniforms. There’s a whole subsection of Japanese culture to do with school uniforms, they have different uniforms for throughout the summer/winter time, and different styles, the “strangest” to most westerners being the seirafuku, which looks like a sailors uniform. The history behind it has to do with European sailors and all that shit but yeah, it makes sense for those outfits to appear in a store in a Japanese context

The reason models go straight down in a spike is so that they dont have to model a curve on the bottom of a model to match the terrain.
Not exactly. It's to save polygon count - a triangular shape like that uses less polys than a square one. It extends really far down so the sloping of the shape isn't noticeable above-ground.

The signs extend far below the ground to save a polygon or two. They made the stake/base of the sign a loooong triangle, instead of several triangles put together to make a square base - and extended the triangle really far below ground so the sloping was un-noticeable above the ground.

10:52 That's a trick game makers use which allows them copy and place the objects in a multitude of ways without having to worry about the gap between the object and the ground. It also allows one person on the team to work on an object while another works on the base track without having to worry if it'll fit when the models are added together.

And I think that the image of the bottom screen behind the skybox is just a memory saving feature. They probably allocate only one backbuffer for both screens. Then they render the bottom screen to that buffer, copy it to the front screen's frontbuffer, then they use the same buffer for rendering the top screen and then they copy that to the top screen's frontbuffer. The original 3DS has only 6MB of VRAM, doing this would save them 225kB of VRAM (assuming they use 24bit colour internally), which would be enough to load about 18 additional 64x64 textures.
It's actually to save on polygon counts more than anything. If it was just to make them easier to copy and paste, it wouldn't be a triangular shape. :)

14:05 - The fact that the bottom screen shows up on the top screen is probably due to both screens using the same frame buffer. Due to the two screens, rather than seeing the normal "hall of mirrors" effect, you're seeing the bottom screen from the previous frame since that's what's in the buffer.

@@TetraBitGaming i think in the alpha there was Egad and birdo as playable characters. and the background was green instead of blue as we see it now.
That "Beta Theme" is actually a remix of the audio used in the CC Select/Kart Stuffs/etc screens. It also sounds like the audio played when getting 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in gameplay, since the two sound similar.
The bottom screen outside the sky box is actually how they made the bottom screen. The bottom screen is a panned away camera view of the course so that you can’t see the course.

spiked poles/stalks: this is for the same reason as to why crowns usually have a downward spike,
it's a polygonally inexpensive way to make the pole/stalk/crown fit any surface by not having any part of its bottom edge sticking out. (at least that's how Shesez from Boundary Break has explained it to me)
